I'm not sure what tree the dog is under, probably a pine - but it reminded me of this ancient yew tree. No one knows quite how old this tree is, probably more than a thousand years anyway. Yews were sacred to the Ancient Britons (and in much of Northern Europe) and many churches were built where yew trees were already a centre for worship.

Following on the flower -- this is an ancient picture in my living room of my mother, of all people. Likely pre WWII? Her given name was (I'm not kidding, either) 'Rosie Mae'. But some of her later friends referred to her as *Rose*.

I see stripes, so we better have some stars!
