I like the Angel one too .. have been known to sit and listen to that and then not watch the show. Same deal with the one from Charmed. I like the Red Dwarf theme - it's fun

No contest here. The Blind Boys of Alabama's version of "Way Down in The Hole" in the first season of The Wire. I grew to like the version used for each successive season, but at the wrap finale going back to The Blind Boys version was perfect. I've even downloaded the song and usually can't go a couple days without listening to it.
The old school theme music I always liked was Hillstreet Blues.

I really liked the music that started 'Miami Vice'. Now, I like the 'Big Bang Theory'. Even when we record the show, I have to listen to the song before fastforwarding.

Top of my list of favorite TV themes: Henry Mancini's immortal "Peter Gunn" theme, still the best ever!
More of my favorites: Lalo Schifrin's "Mannix" (in waltz time, no less! still a gas!), Barry De Vorzon's rocking "S.W.A.T.", "Hawaii Five-O", Dominic Frontiere's "Rat Patrol", Elmer Bernstein's "The Rookies" and everything Barry Gray wrote for Gerry Anderson, especially the Thunderbirds March!
As for comedies, I love the themes from "Dick Van Dyke", "Mary Tyler Moore", "Rhoda", "The Odd Couple" (it was first used on the movie version), "Taxi", both of Bill Cosby's shows (and the Fat Albert cartoons!) and "Seinfeld".

tjoebigham - I thought of the Peter Gunn theme after posting. You are right, but I prefer Roy Buchanan's expert version!

I have to agree with all of tjoebighams selections. Those are all great, especially Mannix. That was a real favorite of mine, partly because I knew some of Mike Connors family when I was a kid and I met him a couple of times. Some others I would like to add to the list, The Rockford Files, Lost in Space (the original one), The Time Tunnel, Mission Impossible, M.A.S.H., That Girl, The Jackie Gleason Show, Love American Style, The Jack Benny Program, The Beverly Hillbillies and last but not least, this one.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbiYFA0-8mU&feature=relatedJust one more..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKss2pBYQ6Y

I have never seen the show, but the theme from 'Van de Valk' is a lovely piece of music. It is called 'Eye Level', by the Simon Park Orchestra. It was the Number one single in 1973, on the UK charts, and it is one of those songs that everyone knows, but no-one knows the name of it.

"Peter Gunn" is a classic. I also love Sammy Davis,Jr.'s song for "Baretta": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQeVIJ8e_z8

I really like "True Blood"'s theme song, though I can't watch the credits. Watching dead animals decompose doesn't sit well with me, so I always FF through or my hubby will stand between me and the TV (isn't he nice?).
I enjoy watching and listening to "Dexter"'s theme as well, somewhat playful in light of the subject matter. In fact, now that recall it I like "watching" the opening credits as the music for Nip/Tuck plays. Watching a mannequin twitch and seeing its eyeballs move is weirdly entertaining!
The theme of "Medium" sounds so much like the way I remember "The Hardy Boys" theme song sounding (given that I haven't watched that show in over thirty years, I could be way off about that - does anyone else remember that show?)
One theme I wish would be changed, if only for the images is "Ghost Whisperer". I catch myself rolling my eyes every time I see Jennifer Love Hewitt tear herself in half, and watching pictures of little children come up out of holes in the ground reminds me of "whack-a-mole"....

Coming back to give The Drew Carey Show top honors for his opening sequence of "Five O'Clock World". Everyone looks like they had a ball doing that! Drew Carey Show Theme "Five O'Clock World"

Don't know how I forgot to post this, because I never missed an episode of Millenium. The music for "Sons of Anarchy" - which is about to begin its second season - is fantastic. I am hoping for a soundtrack, just to have the Curtis Stigers' cover of the great blues tune, John the Revelator.

Californication has a GREAT, GREAT opening song by Tree Adams. It's not a full song length, so I have to play it on a loop to get my fill of it. I had to hunt it down and could only acquire it by buying the Season 1 soundtrack. Not a bad disc, except I could do without the Surrender cover.
