Janeane Garofalo, Shelley Long, Chris O'Donnell and Meg Ryan? I know we can do a IMDB search but I have not seen either of them in previews or anything. Its odd how sometimes an actor/actress can be on a roll (kind of a roll), then......gone. I thought this thread might be fun. What actor/actress have you not seen in ages? Ken

Interesting thread. I think O'Donnell is going to be on TV this fall -- in the latest "NCI" spinoff. I'm suspecting Meg Ryan has followed the same route that, maybe, Demi Moore travelled, there for a few years? Disappear for a while, become a little "mysterious", and then return with a lot o' noise. I believe, too, that she was in that movie The Women last year. Or maybe not? [Just my opinion on this one, but] ... wherever Shelley Long went? It'd be OK with me if she stayed there (unless her services are required for another Brady Bunch film, that is ). Miss Long has made an artform out of mishandling her career ever since she left "Cheers" ~ the quest for *fame* got her, I reckon. Don't get me started on Garafolo. She's a favorite of mine --- and I doubt she'll ever disappear altogether (hopefully). She seems to be selective in the projects she chooses, historically. She likes to go the 'indie' route, God bless her!

I was wondering last night whatever has become of the fetching Kim Basinger? Aside from (pretty vicious-sounding) child custody drama, I haven't heard about her being at work on anything for quite some time now ...

Garafalo was on "24" this year, I think. And I believe she still does standup and writes and stuff. I think she stays busy, just not necessarily in the public eye.

I know Basinger was in "The Sentinel" playing the first lady but I think that was a couple years back? Ken

It's because she's not everywhere at once that I like Janeane Garofalo. She pops up in small roles here and there, but fun to watch/hear. I remember her being on an episode of King of Queens years ago and thinking she was great as Carrie's needy friend Trish. It was refreshing to see her!

Same thing for Parker Posey, she's in lots of independent films but doesn't seek publicity to feel like a star. She's constantly working but not a publicity hound, so it's easy to enjoy seeing her when I do. I look forward to seeing her in all of Christopher Guest's productions.

Slater's doing mostly music now, I've heard. He popped up a lot after Michael Jackson died (the two were once friends, evidently). Don't know anything about the other three, though .

Is Haley Joel Osment still kicking, by the way?

As much as I want to say "who cares" I'd take any of these names listed so far over the newer generation of so called actors.

Bridget Fonda. She seemed to be everywhere in the late '80s and throughout the '90s and then vanished.

Christian Slater shows up a lot actually. He was in that show "My Own Worst Enemy" last year, which was unfortunately short-lived. I thought it was pretty good. Interesting premise, at least.
He does a couple movies or tv appearances a year. Not necessarily very good , but nonetheless...

Meg Ryan was in the movie The Women that came out last year. She used to be so pretty... now she looks a bit weird.

Chris O'Donnell was in a couple of movies last year and this year he appeared on the show NCIS. I've liked him since the beginning, starting with Scent of a Woman and before that, in School Ties.

I was watching Jaws the other day and wondered what Richard Dreyfuss has been up to. I went to IMDB and saw that he's actually been in some films, just not any I've seen. This year he made a movie with Nia Vardalos (from My Big Fat Greek Wedding), it's called My Life In Ruins, and it looks interesting!

Melanie Griffith?

How weird that I hadn't thought about her, at all, in years -- and then yesterday she pops up here, followed by reading (by sheer chance) this morning that she checked back into rehab within the past few days. Not that this is the first trip down that road for Miss Melanie, I'm told ...
