Soundtrack or score or both. "Dances With Wolves" is number one and a close second might be "Beverly Hills Cop". Ken

I haven't bought anything recently but my favorite for a long while was the whole CD from the movie "The Lost Boys". And I don't know the name of it, but the song from the movie "Risky Business" by Tangerine Dream that played when Tom Cruise's character and Rebecca DeMornay were riding the train.

I could no more pick one favorite soundtrack than I could choose which limb I wanted to chew off if I were to get caught in a bear trap. But these are usually in heavy rotation on my MP3 player.

Amélie (Yann Tiersen)
Beetlejuice (Danny Elfman)
Ben-Hur (Miklós Rózsa)
The Blue Max (Jerry Goldsmith)
Gladiator (Hans Zimmer)
The Godfather saga (Nino Rota)
Horton Hears a Who (John Powell)
The Hunt For Red October (Basil Poledouris)
Master and Commander (Ira Davies)
Ponyo On The Cliff By The Sea and Porco Rosso (Joe Hisaichi)

Pretty much anything by Jerry Goldsmith, Joe Hisaichi, Basil Poledouris, or Miklós Rózsa makes the list around here.

Honorable Mention: Alexandre Desplat did some interesting work on The Queen soundtrack, especially Track 4 (A New Prime Minister). Not quite enough to make it into my heavy rotation, but he's moving up there.

It's not a very popular one, I guess, but I've always really (really) liked the soundtrack from the film version (the Broadway show's music was good, too, but not nearly as good as the film's was, in my opinion) of Ragtime. I gained a whole new respect for Randy Newman as a result of it !

Ah, thank you, mr jj.

I used to like the theme song from Chariots of Fire, but the ice cream man in my neighborhood had that song played at triple speed on his ice cream truck. Having to listen to that everyday was like running my nails down a blackboard by the end of the summer.

Are you referring to the "naughty" scene on the train? I thought that song was "In the Air Tonight" Phil Collins? Maybe I'm wrong. Ken

Okay, I want to add to this thread and other movies threads, as music and movies are my passion. (Along with baseball and hockey!)

A few of my favorite soundtracks are:

Out of Africa
The Piano
The Pianist
Fast Times At Ridgemont High
Michael
City Of Angels
Immortal Beloved
The Man From Snowy River
Brokedown Palace
A Knight's Tale
Twilight (don't hate me, I love Debussy!)
O Brother Where Art Thou
Phenomenon

And those are just the ones coming to me without checking my CDs, which are shelved alphabetically so I can find one when I really need it.

My favorite movie? "A Room With A View," without a doubt. I don't think there is a soundtrack, or I would own it.

I may add more soundtracks when they come to me.

I thought the song with Tom and Rebecca on the train was "Coming In The Air Tonight" by Phil Collins? Maybe there were two?

Ok, it's been years since I've seen the movie, but I DO recall a scene and I thought it was on the train, but I do know the music was by Tangerine Dream.

And I can't believe that I forgot the score from "The Piano" which is also another very favorite movie of mine! Thanks, Blackdress. I know I'm going to think of others down the line, too.

Dances With Wolves has that bigger than life Aaron Copeland sound to it, but manages to be very soothing at the same time. I still play it on occasion.
Thoroughly Modern Millie is a favourite soundtrack I got for Christmas back in junior high.

Dr. Zhivago was another one I asked for as a kid and played it til the grooves were flat. It may be the best out of the bunch. I also have Camelot, Brigadoon, Brother Where Art Thou, Forrest Gump, Somewhere In Time, Fiddler On the Roof and Yentl. You've got Mail surprisingly has a lot of fine stuff in it, too.

A movie I watched just last night, Garden State has a sound track that captured my attention.

Love the soundtrack from The Blues Brothers Movie It makes you want to get up and dance on the spot.

Another favourite soundtrack of mine is from Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon. Mostly classical (Handel, Schubert, Vivaldi, Bach) with a little celtic thrown in. Handel's various renditions of Sarabande sends shivers down my spine. If you remember the movie, it was played during the duel scene. It also opened and closed the movie.

ClaraSue, which Tangerine Dream? Do you know the song title? I've been a fan of theirs since the 70's.

I agree with "Out of Africa" and most of asgardshill's score selections (my only caveat would be not to listen to "Amélie" if you have a hangover ), and would add Bernard Herrmann's "Psycho" and Ennio Morricone's "Cinema Paradiso" to that list.

And Elle - there certainly is a soundtrack for "A Room With A View", as I have it around here somewhere. It mostly consists of orchestral score selections by composer Richard Robbins, but it also contains that lovely aria performed by Kiri Te Kanawa. You can find more information on the soundtrack release here:

Mags, it was indeed the song Love on a Real Train by Tangerine Dream. I know it was a naughty scene in the movie but set with the music it was superbly done.

The movie Evening has a wonderful score and soundtrack, though I wish it had the song Time After Time (sang by Claire Danes).

The Last Kiss and Garden State both have great soundtracks (and both movies star Zach Braff, which is no surprise to me as the same musicians have also been heard performing on Scrubs)

Beautiful Girls has a nice mix of songs, that is one of my favorite all-time CDs.

When I'm in a dark mood, I listen to Queen of the Damned Soundtrack. Big fan of Anne Rice and although the movie version left a lot to be desired, I thought Aaliyah was outstanding as Akasha.

The soundtrack sets the tone of the movie fantastically.

Fair cop - you got me there. Don't queue up Horton Hears A Who either unless your hangover is amenable to atonal shiny happy stuff. I myself prefer either utter silence or Gregorian chant set on Low when I'm in that condition.

I like the quirkiness of the Tim Burton/Danny Elfman connections. Regardless of the movie, the Elfman soundtrack to "Edward Scissorhands" is one of the best fitting scores ever done. Likewise with Nightmare Before Christmas.

Beautiful soundtracks I can listen to are "Legends of the Fall" and "Last of the Mohicans."

And oldie, but real goodie is the score to Charlie Chaplin's "City Lights".

And of course, the Motown laden "Big Chill".
