WCBS-FM Radio in New York City recently conducted a listener survey to rank the Top 500 Songs of All Time. This is an oldies station for those of you who don't know of it. They play mostly 60s, 70s, and 80's with a smattering of 1950s and 1990s tunes. Here are their top 3 songs as voted by the listeners. Number One "Thriller" by Michael Jackson, Number Two "In the Still of The Night" by The Five Satins and number three "Hey Jude" by The Beatles.
What would be your top three?

(This is the sort of list that likely changes, in my head, every time I ponder it, but ...)

"I Heard It Through The Grapevine", by Marvin Gaye
"Stairway To Heaven", by Led Zep
"Mama Told Me Not To Come", by Three Dog Night

And I think I've changed my mind already ...

Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty

Little Wing - Stevie Ray Vaughn

Black - Pearl Jam

Like the others my mood might influence changing the second and third but Baker Street will always be my all-time favorite song.

Impossible question to answer, but... if I'm in the mood for slow, introspective music (which happens to be at this moment) then I never tire of listening to the following three:

River of Tears - Eric Clapton
Naked Flame - BBM (Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, Gary Moore)
Where Angels Fear to Tread - Bryan Adams

I'll revisit this thread again when my mood changes.

Welcome, funnygirl. That's one of my favorite songs, too. I really do like Linkin Park and there are a few other songs of theirs I like as well.

Unchained Melody. smilee I know it was a hit many years before, but I remember it fondly, (Very fondly!) from the movie "Michael" with John Travolta. smile

1 'City of New Orleans' - Arlo Guthrie version by preference
2 'Running On Empty' - Jackson Browne
3 ' Can't Help But Wonder Where I'm Bound' - Tom Paxton

Gerry Rafferty - "Baker Street" (Puts him in the lead with two nominations!)

Alan Price - "Jarrow Song"

Dusty Springfield - hard to choose, but I do like "I just fall in love again"

Bubbling under:
Steeleye Span - "All Around My Hat"

This list is subject to change as often as the English weather.

I've thought about this, but I just can't make up my mind. I was, however, able to reach a decision on my all time top favorite songs that have the word "park" in the title. They are:

1. 'MacArthur Park' by Richard Harris (written and arranged by Jimmy Webb)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=su3JdzUUuH4

2. 'Saturday in the Park' by Chicago

3. "Lakeside Park" by Rush

Honorable Mention "Itchycoo Park' by The Small Faces

WCBS-FM in New York recently conducted their revised Top 1001 countdown based on listener votes. Unbelievably, the song that came out as number one was Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl". Nice song, but not worthy (I don't think) of a number one ranking. It was followed at number two by the Eagles "Hotel California" and number three was "Sherry" by the Four Seasons". If you check back tho when I originally posted this thread, the 2009 edition had "Thriller" at number one, "In the Still of the Night" number two and "Hey Jude" third. Can musical tastes change that quickly?
