I've been cruising around the FT site for almost a year now and like any typical male driver I refuse to ask for directions to anywhere. So, after rambling around from here to there I finally saw a sign that said "Welcome Center". But did I stop there? Of course not! Really I just took the scenic route. Now I'm happy to have found where I should have been in the first place. Forgive all us male drivers. Two heads are not necessarily better than one.

Hi Gary ~~

Welcome to the forums. It's never too late, no matter what route you choose, or how long it takes

Thanks to all,

I hope you made it through hurricane "Ida" O.K. I have an aunt that has a condo over their on the Pacific coast. She hasn't told me about any damages or anything, so I don't know how you all faired.

I am obviously new at this so I may ask a lot of questions along the way. For example, if I click on "quick reply" does the message I type join the entire thread? This seems to me the easiest way for me to reply. Others on this forum know that my wife and I are at a disadvantage due to a disability, so any help you can give is greatly appreciated.

by the way, Hi there Postcards. Dawn is still waiting for her Reese's. LOL

Hi there everyone in Oh and Pa, thats my old stomping grounds. Buy your bread from Nickle's bakery, all my nieces and nephews work their.

By the way, eyecue is my wife's CB handle. She is from Stattin Island, NY, so that's what she goes by on the radio. My handle is really Stratcat because I play the guitar. But, she helped me join this web site in the first place, so I adopted her handle. She's the one with the IQ and it's much higher than 58. That just happens to have been my age when I signed up to FT. Next year I'm going to change my screen name to Eyecue57!

Catch you on the rebound,

Gary and Dawn

I knew I forgot something,

I.Q. stands for Island Queen. Wich, by the way, is the name of a boat in Paul Theroux's book "The Mosquito Coast". Which happens to be set in Central America. Small world.

Hello Gary, I took about 4 years before I thought of posting in the welcome centre, I think if you miss it the first time you tend to lose track. I also used my CB handle when I started here and then had account problems so ended up with a new one. I'd never have got the alternative IQ if you hadn't explained either, I was wondering if you needed special qualifications to live on Staten Island ?

Yes it does, Gary. You'd use the 'Reply' mode if you wanted to bold, italicize, or underline part of your text. It will also enable you to quote, as shown above. There's also smilies in there, take a peek. But for a straightforward text post? 'Quick Reply' is the way to go.

As for Hurricane Ida, a bit of extra rain (well, a lot, actually) here for a couple of days, other than that, no problems. Thank you for asking.

Edited to add: The edit button is handy if you want to, for example, correct a typo, add something to your post instead of making another post, or clarify something.

Err...
Um...
The Reese's were packed and ready to go, but I decided to sample one (just to make sure they were fresh), and... well... you can't eat just one

As for Dawn being the 'Island Queen' -- I thought that was me! I'm from Staten Island, as well. I grew up in the Clifton/Stapleton area, and attended Curtis High School.

David, all Staten Islanders have special qualifications that are top secret, and known only to us.

Madmags,

Thanks for the help with the "reply and edit". That helps a lot.

Postcards,

Dawn went to Susan Wagner HS. She graduated in 1986.

She changed her mind, she said "forget the chocolate, send pizza instead". You can't find a good pizza in FL!
