Talking of sites...

My back garden backs onto these garages. Over the years, they've become very run down and hardly anybody used them any more. This is how it looked a few months ago:



The local council decided that the site was ripe for redevelopment, in spite of the fact that I use it to get my motorcycle in & out of my back garden. However they made me an offer I couldn't refuse! I'll post some more pix of what they've done to it...

This is Kew Gardens station from a nearby bridge.

This is how the site at the bottom of my garden looked when they'd finished. No garages, no trees, no rubbish, no tarmac, no chance of getting the motorbike on the road! They've rolled it since then but somehow I don't fancy riding a 170kg motorbike on mud and loose stones.

I know places in England have had a lot more snow than me, but rather a cold car this morning Luckily, we have nowhere to go!

This is the opposite side of the country, North East England, yesterday.

Nine Bicycles


I was waiting for the bus today, these bikes were outside the store by the bus stop.

I'm still snowed in here so another from the park last week, this was when it started and been a week now and counting.

The photos reminded me of this (paraphrased) song:

Eight leaves are falling,
Seven deer are feeding,
One loooonly path!

Great photos everyone. I'll not have snow for Christmas, but we are expecting sub freezing temperatures. Brrrr!

Am I back already? Due to the ice here's one I made earlier. This house in East Finchley was featured on Grand Designs on TV and I went and took it soon afterwards in 2001. This is the narrow bit, it covers an old workshop site and goes back a long way.

The Three Monkeys pub in Sydney, Australia (taken on recent holiday).

So it's not just the UK turning banks into pubs!


Everyboy's dream toy shop: model aircraft, motorcycles, fire engine, samurai swords.
Such a shame they were closed on the day I went there.

We only got about an inch of snow, but covered everywhere and turned to ice. And kept adding more every few days until last night when it rained for hours and now back to normal.

Especially for Onimisi, here's the centre of Golders Green now I'm back on the road, one of the places we passed on my guided tour.

Very observant of you, Martin. It was indeed the Bank of Australasia building originally, then the ANZ (Australia New Zealand Bank). It was built in 1879. It became a pub/hotel in 2000 to take advantage of the Sydney Olympics. It is now a very popular pub and a bit of a landmark!

Today is my niece's 16th birthday and, as nobody else could be bothered, I thought I'd try baking a cake for her. Sadly, it didn't rise very well. My nieces decided to top it with icing and fill it with butter icing & plum jam(=jelly). This is the end result:-



(Well, it's the thought that counts or so they say.)

It is the thought that counts. Still...remind me not to ask you to make a cake for my birthday.

We've had some snow this week and the birds--especially cardinals--have been all over the backyard.

It looks like a great cake to me, Martin, and I bet it tasted great too. You niece is lucky to have such a thoughtful uncle.

This photo of pelicans was taken during our recent holiday in Wollongong. We were dining in a seafood restaurant overlooking the harbour. Some fishing boats came in and that brought the pellicans and seagulls hoping for a handout.

I agree with MotherGoose, Martin, your niece is very fortunate.

I always think a fluffy sponge is vastly overrated - I'm sure yours cut into nice, bite-sized pieces.
