Did this by any chance start happening after the upgrade to AVG 9?
That's caused huge amounts of problems, including browser problems. I went back to using 8.5 because it messed my computer up so badly. I'm going to look for a different program if the problems aren't resolved soon--I'm not happy with the way AVG is handling things.
Check out the forums there, you might find something that relates to your issues.

So far today, I have had no problems. (*crossing fingers and toes!*) The trouble started several days ago, with just a crash or two a day and it gradually escalated until it was happening every few minutes. Yes, it was after AVG 9.0, but several weeks had gone by after that update before the trouble appeared. But I will defimnitely take a look at their forums - it's worth a try.

Hopefully, I have seen the end of the Firefox crashes.

I used to use the AVG free anti-virus. They stopped providing updates for the free version and I switched to the Avira AntiVir free version. Haven't had any issues at all with any Firefox release, nor with any viruses of any kind. Just a heads up if you are looking for alternatives.

Thanks, pyonir, I will check that out.

I really hate getting so comfortable with a program and then they go and "improve" it with upgrades. Ugh. If it ain't broke...

Tonight's update:
Got through most of today with only 2 or 3 Firefox crashes. Then tonight, it started crashing every few minutes again. As a last resort, I have removed my beloved Yahoo toolbar. This appears to have (possibly) helped.

bionic, do you know that you can use Yahoo as a search engine in the search engines toolbar in Firefox? I'm not sure where it is by default, but you should have a separate search engine bar at the top of your Firefox (Mine is in the upper right side, right after the address bar). I have Google as my default, but if you click on the down arrow in that bar, it has "Manage Search Engines..." in the drop down. It's a bit difficult to explain...so if you are completely lost I can't take a screenshot for you.

If you used Yahoo toolbar as a way to check your yahoo email, I can recommend an add-on I use for numerous Yahoo email accounts and it works perfectly fine. Let me know.

I mainly used the yahoo toolbar for its extra set of customized buttons, but have weeded out the unnecessary buttons and managed to fit all the ones I use the most on the Firefox toolbar. I would love to have an add-on for my yahoo mail, though!

Gotcha.

I use WebMail Notifier (version 1.5.5 as of now). You can use multiple Yahoo, Hotmail, and Gmail addresses (among others). There are others, but this one works the best for my needs. Link to the Add-on

I don't know a lot about Foxfire or Mozilla. I had it once. Took some getting used to. Surely was different.
I took it off my PC, after using it for a while. The other day I was looking at it again. I saw different entries which said Foxfire was having some problems.
You might type in "Foxfire" and read what all comes up. It might tell you something of the problems you are having. Good luck.
What I did not like about it whenI was using it was that when I downloaded something, I had to go through an entire separate procedure to use it.
I got tired of it.
