Hope everyone got what they wanted for Christmas. Even what they didn't want!

I got a favorite book I've been waiting for, Sue Grafton's "U" book. Also got a small serger (yay!), extra special scissors, and I get to make a clock with a quilt block inside it. Now I need to learn how to use a serger. Hmmm, a class may be needed for that!

Also got the (obligitory?) "stuff." You know, those handy-dandy items one cannot live without? A plastic package cutter, a cheese slicer, a lap table (at least it has a place to hold a wine glass!), and "things" in general that wind up in drawers (or maybe even re-gifted at the office party!).

So what goodies did you all get?

My daughter bought me a twelve month subscription to Parchment Craft which is the magazine I have delivered every month, so unfortunately that didn't come giftwrapped but is nevertheless most welcome. Then I received a super glass photoframe and some 'brads' for my crafting, decorative3 split pins to some of you non-crafters. Another site I belong to, a craft site, has Secret Santas and members can ask for one, two or none, I asked for two. One was a teatowel and a little spoon, the other was a crafting dream, a storage box stuffed with gorgeous papers, ribbons, embossed frame cards, gems and some paper faux brads.

I am told there are more gifts to come, they are just delayed.

I got everything that I put on my (quite short) list for Santa. It's hard to come up with things to ask for, I find, now that I don't really get "toys", as I mostly borrow books from the library (or barely read at all, as has happened this year), buy dvds for myself year-round, and have all the "big" items, like a laptop, a tv, an mp3 player (just for listening to sometimes on the bus, I really have no need for a $400 Ipod), a cell phone, etc.. so don't really need anything else! I still appreciate gifts of course, it's just that the question "What do you want for Christmas?" doesn't really have an answer!

Anyway. So Santa brought me the book "God Hates Us All" by 'Hank Moody', the fictional character on the show "Californication" (I don't know who actually wrote it), season five of Grey's Anatomy on dvd, Snow White on dvd, a (scary looking) Guns n Roses t-shirt to replace one that my mom threw out because there were holes in it, a leather jacket that didn't fit, two nice tops that are more 'wintery' that I could wear to work (should I get a job), a 25th anniversary edition of Trivial Pursuit, and a Bumblebee Transformer. lol. And my brother got me season three of "The Tudors" on dvd.

And I got a book "The Little Book" (I think is what it's called), a game "The Game of Things", and a necklace from one set of uncle-and-aunt; money from grandparents and other uncle (plus a candy apple from his girlfriend); pajamas, a necklace and a "The Office" wall calendar from another aunt; and a bunch of stuff from another aunt, who my younger cousins dubbed "the queen of presents" a long time ago. The woman does her Christmas shopping all year round, and it takes four people to carry all the gifts into my grandparents' house. She told me the other day that she has doing all her gift wrapping on Christmas eve, but had to decide what to give me, because she has a roomful of stuff that's mostly for me, so she had to pick what to wrap for Christmas and what to save for another time. She also has decided in the last few years that it's her duty to buy me stuff that I will need if and when I move out of my parents' house. This year I got a 50 piece cutlery set, and a box of various sizes of scissors, a cook book (which she has gotten me a few of in the past couple years) of all chicken recipes because the (untrue) joke in the family is that's all I can cook, a new purse, a sheet set, and a new comforter. Last christmas she got me two boxes of martini glasses and measuring cups. I hope next year I get plates, lol, or I just have cups and forks.

Edited to add - Gosh, I didn't mean to write a whole essay here!

A ton of chocolate and biscuits, so should start limiting myself to a few at weekends, in a few days! Money - which is just what I want, so I can spend it how I want - and "talking books" CDs to name but a few. My main present from Mum was a digital photo frame

I hope everyone had a great day!

Let's see, I got a froggie wish ring necklace, a watch that has four little frogs that flash on and off, a Swedish Chef ornament, George Carlin's book "Last Words", a teddy bear from Harrod's and a beautiful little cross-stitched ornament of a kangaroo with a joey (my mother in law makes these for us every year, she told us she wasn't going to do it this year and changed her mind, I'm glad I now have seven in my collection.)

I got a Snuggy, a (badly-needed) shelf for my bathroom, a DVD, a toaster oven, gloves and a couple of checks.

Bubba and Rocky got a Chia Kitty Grass grower and a big bag of their diet food from my Mom and a huge stocking full of toys from my daughter. Also (from me) a can of chicken for their Christmas Eve feast and the first bag of cat treats they've seen in 2 months.

Chocolates, Christmas tree ornaments, a teakettle and a new little cooking pot, as I burned the bottom out of my old little pot last month. Also got an Mp3 player, which moves me one step closer to the modern age in my audiobook listening. My kids laugh at me because I still do a lot of my listening with a cassette player.

What is a "serger"?
I got new bedlamps, perfume, some stuff for the garden, lots of books...and a beautiful photo of my grandson.
Had a lovely Christmas Day at the beach - weather perfect, water gorgeous.

A serger is a type of sewing machine that uses 4 or more threads at one time. It also automatically trims the fabric as it sewing. Look at some seams, say, on the inside of a sweatshirt. There is not only a straight seam, but what looks like loops of zigzag stitching that keeps the fabric from fraying. That stitching is what a serger does. Here is an example, very nearly like mine.

Ditto! I actually have two. I keep one threaded with white and one threaded with black. That takes care of almost every sewing job without having to waste time changing threads! The threading process is so tedious and time-consuming.

Mother Goose, when I bought my first one, many years ago, I was taught a trick to threading.
Cut your threads between the cone and the first thread thingy.
Then replace your cone, and carefully tie each thread with a reef knot to join the new cone in.
Adjust your tension out to loosest, and slowly operate the machine until all the threads have passed through and your machine is completely threaded with the new colour.
You sometimes need to rethread the actual needle, depending on the size of the needle you are using, but as far as the rest goes, it's all done.

I re-thread mine everytime and pack it away in it's box when I'm finished (been like that since I got it for my 21st all those years ago ).

On another note, santa brought me gift vouchers and chocolate. Not too bad I dont suppose.

Oh and for the record (and keeping to the original material of this thread) Santa brought me some reading material, some crafty goodies and a ticket to Dublin for this coming weekend. I reckon I must have been good at some stage during the year ...

I got a trip to Paris with my mom and my sister. Thank you, Santa!
I also got a doll that is eerily similar to me, in that we both play piano and violin, we both have blonde hair, and we are both named Mary.

I got a machine that will convert my video-cassette tapes to DVD format without needing to connect to any other TV or apparatus. This means that I will be able to burn copies of my sons childhood videos, the shows we've taped off of TV over the years and other things in the old format. Very happy about this! Also got some film books, perfume and sneakers. Very happy with all my gifts this Christmas.
