Happy New Year, everyone! It's an hour into 2010 here in Costa Rica. Bombitos were being let off sporadically all day. Bombitos are fireworks that give a big explosion and a lot of smoke, but no real 'show'. As midnight approached, more and more of these were being set off. They drove every dog in the country to cowering under the nearest table ~ or my dog at least! People were partying out in their front yards, laughing, dancing salsa, singing and drinking cervezas. Then at midnight, every house set bombitos off, along with pretty ooo-and-ahhh fireworks. At one point the street was so filled with smoke, you could only see 100 metres. This went on for a solid half hour. Being in the valley, we could see all the displays from houses on the mountains, it was awesome. A wonderful evening, spent with my next door neighbours, and a real show of how Costa Rica celebrates New Year's.
May everyone have a wonderful new year in 2010. Feliz Año a todos!
