My PC went to PC heaven not long ago so took it to a shop to get fixed.

The nice man who owns and fixed my PC installed what he says is a the best Anti Virus System around.

I have been using it but not sure I like it all that much.It is free and good till 2040!!

I was just wondering if anyone here has heard of it and is a good system to have?

Eset's anti-virus used to be called NOD32 and that was really very good indeed. As with all anti-virus systems you need to keep it updated but you should be able to automate that.

If you've got the whole system for free, I'd say that's a pretty good deal.

Eset's anti-virus/anti-spyware 4 program is still called NOD32. Their security suite goes under the name of 'Eset Smart Security 4' and this includes a firewall and anti-spam functions. The man who fixed your computer is right, I think it would be agreed by many that Eset products are up there with the best. There will always be people who say better are available, or that some programs equal it. It's often just a matter of opinion or preference.

If you would like to read how the virus protection compares to similar products, you can do so at AV-Comparitives. Click on the 'main comparatives' link when on the site and then choose the reports to read (PDF format). The reports are very detailed but scrolling though the pages reveals tables that make it easy to see at a glance how the various products compare.

I'm not aware of any licence that allows Eset programs to be used without an annual subscription though. It might be worth looking into that.
