Hi--

I have several quizzes whose questions do not work as "stand-alone" questions. These include a "Mystery Author" quiz based on a type that linkan invented long ago and my ABC words quizzes. Can these be excluded from Daily and Hourly quizzes? I get lots of correction notices from frustrated players who've not been able to read the intros, which explain how the quizzes work.

Thanks a lot,
Robyn

For the questions from your ABC quizzes that turn up in Fill in the Blank hourlies, players can read the intro, if they hover their mouse over "Context". All the info is there.

We are actually discussing this very topic- only Terry can actually do this; editors cannot.

Lately, I'd say 90 percent of my correction notices have to do with this problem. I really need help with this! In a correction notice today, the player could not even tell me which of my quizzes he or she was suggesting a correction for! Help! Thanks, RR

Also, re. "Context" info that players can access: If they are playing timed quizzes, they are very unlikely to stop and look for further information.

Thanks,
RR

Actually, spanishliz, the Context doesn't always help. All it is is the introduction to the quiz from which the question is taken. I just played a FIB to find an example, and although every question on this particular quiz (as usually is the case) is stand-alone, one of the Context blurbs is simply, "The last of my Goodquizzes." That wouldn't have helped a bit if the question had been imcomplete. There are many such examples.

I would guess Terry cannot systematically purge such questions with the push of a button or rewriting of a line of code. Each such quiz would have to be identified and individually excluded. That's an impossibly huge undertaking, but, now that I think about it, there might be enough FT addicts who so crave a red star by their name that they would be willing to help clean out these Augean stables. Every question caught would be a help.

I was referring specifically to the context for Robyn's ABC quizzes, which does give the needed information.

I think the player has the choice between a) a few seconds faster but risk answering incorrectly or b) using all of the information to answer the question correctly.

It's a trade-off that is part of the game.
