Would you write a date (European style) as:

26 November, 1942

or

26 November 1942

(only difference is comma after November)

As I understand it, if the date precedes the month there should be no comma, e.g.

26 November 2009

but if the month precedes the date then the comma should be inserted, e.g.

November 26, 2009

When I moved to Australia, I made the painful transition from November 26, 2009 to 26 November 2009 (and the even harder one from 11/26/09 to 26/11/09). However, the extra comma (26 November, 2009) has started to appear in recent years.

I would never use a comma for 7 January 2010.

I've always seen it without the comma if the number is before the month.

Looney_tunes, my cell phone has the date in the 07/01/10 format (for Jan. 7), and it looks backwards to me, and I can't change it.

You would only use the comma to separate the numbers (day and year). You do not need the comma to separate the month and year.

I actually have switched to ordering all my photos by YYYYMMDD. It's easier to sort and look through. Today would be 20100111 for instance. Just to throw another format into the mix.

Oh, yes - to sort it is definitely easier to use that format (but not in normal life). I wouldn't use a comma for dates like 11 January 2010 (although I might make it into an ordinal - 11th January 2010 (although Chrome doesn't like that...)).
