I got flagged ages ago with the "green screen of death" (ie: The warning that some quizzes weren't up to standard and that I am "prohibited" from using true/false questions or fill inthe blanks).

I get that it happened, and I know why it happened, but I have no idea how long it lasts for.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST FOR?

I can't find any thread on here that can answer my question. I have since submitted THREE quizzes that went through first time (and have had good feedback from players).

The warning screen doesn't give a time frame. Can ANYONE tell me how long it will last. I have quizzes I want to create that requires the true/flase option, but can't do it until the "ban" is lifted!!!

Also, how can you get it removed? Is there someone that you can "plead your case" to that has the power to reverse the decision??

ALSO - I used to be able to create a few quizzes at the same time and work on them bit by bit (For example, one on animals, other on a specific history topic etc). I would plod away on them when I had free time or came across questions ideas from books/TV docos etc.

Now I can't create a new one UNTIL the submitted one is approved. It is frustrating as I was going to start putting together a new quiz while the other was being edited (that can take up to a week or two) but now I can't

ANY IDEAS HOW TO BE ALLOWED TO MAKE A NEW QUIZ WHILE THE OTHER IS BEING EDITED???

Cheers in advance!
TM

You can type up your quiz using something like Microsoft Word. It has the added advantage of a spell checker which will catch any minor typos and you can also use it to make notes or jot down your ideas for future questions. I'm allowed to use multiple templates for my quizzes but I still create all my quizzes in Word and then copy paste them here. Hope this helps.

There isn't a hard and fast rule about how long a green screen lasts. If it is applied because of plagiarism, it's likely to last longer than if it's simply there because of grammatical errors.
The secret to having it lifted is to work co-operatively with editors, making changes the first time you are asked to make them. Arguing over whether changes are needed is a way of making sure that it sticks around longer.

so reading between the lines of that link (thanks for that BXBarrcuda) and what is mentioned above by skunkee, am i correct to understand that the EDITORS themselves have the power to remove the green screen???
So if I have one particular editor that "edits" all of my quizzes and I have been consistently "good" then he/she has the power to remove that screen. Correct?

PS - Skunkee - Most definitely NOT plagiarism. Was originally grammar/spelling and the like.

ZORBA: Thanks for the suggestion.
However I DO have them on a word document!! I have the equivalent of three quizzes ready to go on word, I just can't open a fresh template to get cracking on the next one! I want to be able to get them pasted in and then "tweak it" online (I like to see how it looks with the "online preview". I seem to pick up mistakes better that way)

So any ideas now how to get a new template started? And why could I do it before, but can't do it now?

You'll need to get your current template online before you create a new quiz. If I recall, the green screen limits to one template at a time. The Word Document idea is great- saves the time between submissions and gives the extra chance to proofread and make sure everything is in tip-top shape before it comes to us.

If you show improvement, then yes, it can be removed by the editors. Likely you won't always have the same editor(s) unless you always submit to the same categories, but the editing staff is all on the same page in regards to authors and the green screen.

Thank you Kyleisalive, that answers my question.

And yes I have had the same editor as the topics all fall under his "category".

I will wait and see what he does with the latest submission

And it covers why I can't get multiple templates up and running any more

One of the most important things you can do to get the green screen removed is to make sure that you respect the decisions of the editors, rather than arguing with them about corrections.

Please also realize that the "green screen" is not some personal vendetta against you by the editors. Some people get quite worked up about it and feel that they're being unnecessarily criticized. They're not.

The editors have seen hundreds of thousands of quizzes submitted over the years (no exaggeration), so they've got a fairly good idea about what deserves the green screen and what doesn't.

It's merely a tool that we use to say to authors "slow down, you're on the wrong track!"

You can be comforted in the knowledge that MANY authors have that notice, and a good number of them over the years have worked with editors to become very good authors.
