This is a very ordinary photo of a main road, but in my life a junction I've passed at least weekly from one end or another since I was born. It's the junction of the North Circular Road with Brent Street/Golders Green Road, and seen some changes over the last 50 years although most were either side of it. The biggest is out of shot on the left where a particularly nice hotel was demolished for housing, which is taking over many previously commercial sites all over London as so many more people want to live here.

One of my friends collects antique weapons. This is a fraction of his collection - it has been featured on television and is one of the best collections in Australia apparently.

What an a-m-a-z-i-n-g collection MG. I like the spears, and some of those knives look positively dangerous.

I spotted this pile of clay roof tiles while out yesterday.

I thought it strange how the mosses and lichens are growing readily on the edges of some tiles, with nary a sign of life on others. I suppose it depends on what elements each tile is leaching out.

Such a great set of photos! I've been a little busy lately so didn't have time to visit this thread, but it was great catching up.

Taken from the rear window of the car.

Now that's a knife collection, .

This is a luminaria also known as a farolito; a paper bag filled with sand and a candle creating a lantern, traditionally used around the Christmas Holidays as decorations around houses and walkways. Last night the streets were lined with thousands of luminarias in my parents retirement community to honor those with cancer during Cancer Awareness Week.

By coincidence (before seeing Mags' last post), I took this photo of a brick that's been lying around in my back garden since forever & has a nice growth of moss on it.

Hi everyone! Sorry to have been away for so long - I've really missed FT and especially the photos! I'm afraid that I can't see pics at the moment becuase my 'net has been slowed for a few days (stupid low plans!) but I can post mine.

Here is a far away storm the other day.

I look forward to catching up on all your pics!

Hi Copago! Good to see you

This was the view from my sister's kitchen window at about half past four this afternoon. For a short while the reflection of the setting sun turned the apartment building on the other side of the park golden.

Phew, thank heavens for the cavalry! Welcome back dear Jill!
I was crossing the harbour by ferry yesterday and realised there were rather more yachts than usual. There was a round the island race going on. I had a real ringside seat.

Needed to catch up on this month's pics, so no better way to spend a Sunday morning - with a big pot of coffee and a chunky bacon sarnie. What a great set of photos this last week!

Talking of Australian 'signs'......

This seen near Cobham Lake, Silver City Highway.

Those boats look nice, Ren.

One of the few traditional housing colonies left in Mumbai, this place is known as Gaiwadi ('Gai' means cow in Marathi).

More of my friend's collection of antique weapons. Had to crop said friend out of the photo but you can see he is holding a whaling harpoon gun. Some of the swords you can see in the background go back to Napoleonic times.

Maybe my model cars and train tickets will get me on TV as well one day... I can dream anyway.

I've always liked footpaths as most roads where I used to live were connected by them and I rode my bike along them all from an early age. I take them all now when I see them as although they are all similar no two can be exactly the same, this one is in Leatherhead.

We got a nice rainfall last night. Not terribly widespread but we got it right where we badly needed it. Here is water going into the tank which was previously a 20 foot dry hole in the ground. You can see the water behind trying to get in. That was early this morning - by lunch time it was chockers. *yay*

LOL Thanks.
I don't answer the technological questions either ... there are far more intelligent people to answer those!

All that water must be a relief now, I know how long you waited for it.

This is a little road by Box Hill in Surrey, one of the highest points on the North Downs which I have walked up once.

Most Hindus have an idol of Ganesha in their cars. He's considered to be the 'protector'.

looks like it could be a romantic sunset on the beach with a boat .. but in reality it's the aluminium tinnie on a dam.

Zorba: that's the cutest Ganesha idol I've ever seen. Is it your own?

Copago: oh my. You need to go get that one blown up and framed. Everything about it is PERfect!

This phenomonon is a mystery to me, also. I can't attribute the rectangular appearance of a round moon to anything that I'm familiar with. The only thing I can think of is that the lens had a smudge of something in the center. The star at the left seems undisturbed and so do the clouds. Everything is in proper perspective, except the moon.
Can you reproduce this effect?
The only other thing to consider is camera movement during exposure.
