Probably the most famous horse in Australia's history. Meet (some pieces of) Phar Lap, who won the Melbourne Cup in 1930, and was suspected of being poisoned by the Mafia when he went to USA. Bits of Phar Lap are spread all over the place- his hide (this photo) is in the Melbourne Museum, his heart is in the National Museum in Canberra, and his skeleton is in the New Zealand Museum. He was foaled in NZ, but came to Australia as a yearling.

This sign in the lifts at work always makes me think of 'Schindler's List' because of the obvious similarity. For the benefit of our friends across the pond, a lift is an elevator. Which reminds me of an old joke: An American visiting in England asked at the hotel for the elevator. The porter looked a bit confused but smiled when he realized what the man wanted. "You must mean the lift", he said. "No", the American responded. "If I ask for the elevator I mean the elevator". "Well", the porter answered, "Over here we call them lifts”. "Now you listen", the American said rather irritated, "An American invented the elevator". "Yes", the porter said in a polite tone, "But we in England invented the language".

A visit to the races and I was getting impatient at not being able to see into the paddock before the race. This was my view for quite a while, until the guys in front moved away to lay their bets!

A nice row of modern houses in Wimbledon and I saw two stretch limos yesterday, one was pink but I think a Cadillac or a Lincoln. I'm sure there's a Hummer around as well though.

As you can see, Zorro is a modest cat. Here he is displaying the very 'in' shaven chest look. Somehow I doubt if it will catch on in the cat fashion stakes. He is all OK now. All this happened several months ago.

This ,believe it or not is a public toilet in a village near me. It won the bronze medal for best kept in HK and the whole village keeps an eye on it to ensure it is kept pristine for visitors. The orchids were donated by the villagers. Things have certainly improved toiletwise, here in HK, since the bad old days.
