About 18 years ago, I was nursing a 14 year old boy dying of a brain tumour.
He was (like most farm kids) passionate about motorbikes, so the Make A Wish foundation gave him the very latest in dirt bikes, which sat in splendour in his hospital ward.
He had seen how different wards in Perth's childrens hospital were short of equipment, so he started fundraising for them from his bed in our tiny district hospital - i forget now how much he raised, but it was well over A$10,000. After his death, his parents raffled the bike and added the proceeds to his donation.
Make a Wish is one charity I will always support.
