World Cricket 2010 Generally looking around to see if people would be interested in the next edition of World Cricket! Plenty of cricket featuring ALL Test playing countries to be played over the next few months, starting with a series between England and Bangladesh (from May 27). This will be the LONGEST edition of the tipping comp here, going right till the end of the Ashes and the ODI series down under till early February 2011! All future editions of World Cricket will only be restricted to EITHER the English Summer or the Australian Summer. You will as usual pick 5 players for any Tests and 6 for the ODIs from the list of players I will provide and you score as many points as the runs/wickets by your selected player. A carefully chosen Trump player can double your points and vault you up the rankings ladder. If you are not a regular to the forums here, you can still lodge a team for a series and allow it to score for you till a new series comes about. I will PM you and remind you to lodge tips whenever a new series is around (how's that for an incentive to take part? Howie72 is the defending champion here, ahead of srini701 and Copago, who both had won the two previous editions. I hope there will be a decent turn out and that we can have a good, fun competition. Shout your names out here for what it's worth, so I know you will be there!

A Hearty Welcome to the 6 brave tipsters, especially Sypher, for joining me in the longest edition of the World Cricket yet. Hope to see everyone of you hang around all the way through February 2011
KrivoyRog shoots off the blocks with Sypher in hot pursuit, as we warm up to the more strenuous rounds ahead. Krivoy had English captain Andrew Strauss as his trump and Strauss delivered a thumping 360 of the 547 points scored by Krivoy this round!
Jonathon Trott scored a mammoth 292 points but not one of us had him in our squads ....ditto with the second placed player, Steve Finn (see points scorer's list above)
Other than srini, nobody had 5 players scoring for them this round, but srini's bad choice of trump means he starts off middle of the table.
paper_aero picks up the first spoon for this edition and starts off at the wrong foot, but this is just the first round of a very long competition....
The next round is 3 days away (June 4) and if you do not want to lodge a team, your first Test team can continue to score for you.....

England duly completed an innings win (the 34th time in 68 Tests that Bangladesh lost by an innings) in 3 days and we can turn our attention to more "serious" cricket over the rest of the year
srini701 had an impressive round with every one of his picks doing well and he takes over at the top ahead of the so-far consistent Sypher
KrivoyRog picked a bad trump in this round and slips to third place
Ozz2002 had a very interesting team, but he must probably thank his "inspired trump" Matt Prior who scored 236 out of his 358 points in this round!
gtho4 picks up his first spoon, but is in mid-table, 50 ahead of next placed paper_aero.
The next 3 rounds feature the West Indies - South Africa Tests from June 10, so please do try and lodge tips for the 3rd round before Thursday.

South Africa thrashed West Indies with more than a day to spare in the first Test, despite losing a lot of time due to rain. They won the T20 series 2-0, won the ODI series 5-0 and who's to say they can't win the Test series 3-0 now?.....I feel bad for the West Indies
Howie72 had a most impressive round and vaults all the way to 2nd place with a massive 611 points in that round. Now, if only he had not picked Darren Sammy in his team, who knows how many more he would have scored
Ozz2002 experimented with an "all-B" side (he added a sub at the last minute) and it almost paid off...he was the ONLY one to have Suleiman Benn his side...Now, if only he had picked someone other than Darren Bravo and Tsotsobe in his side too....
Other than gtho4, NONE of us had 5 players scoring in this round ...Krivoy in fact had just 3, but all 3 did fantastically for him....now if only gtho4 had anybody other than Pascal or Chanderpaul in his side or Krivoy did not have Roach or Parnell in his team....
Sypher slips from the top 2....if only he did not pick Amla in his side....
paper_aero is worryingly beginning to show signs of his usual consistency...his scores are on the up swing every round...how many more rounds before he's in his usual "top 3" position in this comp?.....not too many, by my reckoning
srini701 followed up his impressive 2nd round with an atrocious wooden spoon score of 285, his first for this edition, and sees his lead at the top cut from 164 points to just 74....and with everybody from 2nd place to 6th breathing down his neck in this format of scoring, the comp's wide, wide open all over again...
lesson for srini from this round: ODI form need not carry into Tests
Now....who's going to read all this rant of mine when the Football world Cup's on?...That's why I have boldly penned all my thoughts for the round in such a detaiiiillllleeeddddd manner
No worries if you do not want to/fail to lodge teams for the enxt 2 rounds....this team can still score for 2 more rounds...I will mail you once new teams are in action...till then....enjoy the soccer action

It was a batting fest all the way as the second Test ended in a dull draw...at least West Indies finally did not troop out losers in the series .....Graeme Smith called Jacques Kallis the "most valuable player in the history of Test cricket" and Kallis lived up to his captain's (and the people here who had him as their trump) expectations once again, scoring a mammoth 172 runs, taking a wicket and also holding a catch!
Using his infinite wisdom and foresight, the wise gtho4 did NOT lodge tips for the round and had 4 players from his previous round scoring very heavily for him, including a massive 394 points from Kallis as his trump. As a result, he landed an humungous 818 points for the round (one of the highest ever in this 4 year old comp's "5-player" rounds) and vaulted all the way to the top.......hmmmm...was he just busy with the FIFA world cup or did he go to St Kitts and see the pitch there?
Howie72 was the other player who did not lodge tips for the round, but he also had Kallis as his trump and so notches up a very "respectable" 670 points. He however slips to 3rd place behind the fantastic Sypher who had both Kallis and Chanderpaul in his team
srini701 also had BOTH Kallis and Chanderpaul in his side, but with tremendous foresight, picked Dale Steyn as his trump....wish he had Morne Morkel at least as the trump ....srini picks his second consecutive spoon and slips to 4th place.
paper_aero also had a bowler-heavy line up but he at least had Chanderpaul as his trump
The next Test (and round) starts Saturday, June 26. You can lodge tips before that or take gtho's way and stick with your second Test team ...I will buzz you before the next round again...good luck with the FIFA world cup now

And so the series nobody bothered about or even knew was being played, is over South Africa won the final Test by seven wickets and take the series 2-0 when they would rather have been home watching the greatest sporting event organised by their country!
Just 3 tipsters dropped by the tipping post and of them 2 opted to retain their teams....at least they turned up
paper_aero picks up his first HoF award and shoots up to 3rd place. KrivoyRog picks up his first spoon and drops down to allow Ozz2002 to catch up with him.
Extremely tight race with less than 150 points between 1st placed gtho4 and 5th placed Howie (it was over 160 between srini and the second place in just round 2)....but still very, very early days in the comp with at least another 28 rounds to go!
We will welcome back Doomed (Yayyyyy!!!!!!) from the next round and he will hopefully last the rest of the journey with us....he will start at 2223 points (present score of Krivoy and Ozz at the bottom of the table)
The next series is between Australia and Pakistan (being played in England) and starts Tuesday, July 13 (after the World Cup is over)....will mail reminders to you all before the round starts so you can drop by to lodge fresh teams...till then....have fun

A Hearty "Welcome Back" to Doomed to the cricket tipping comps ...now, if only I could entice Copago and Eraserhead also to return...Doomed started pretty decently too, jumping past Ozz and the absent KrivoyRog to take position at 6th place.
Sypher becomes the 6th different winner in 6 rounds (not sure if this has ever happened in the cricket comps before) and our 4th leader in 6 rounds, with a massive score...Salman Butt was the sole difference between his team and Howie's and see the difference...
paper_aero picks his second spoon and slips from 3rd to 5th. gtho4 slips from 1st to 4th.
The next round is also between Australia and Pakistan and if you are happy with your teams, stay put....but there have been changes, with Shahid Afridi announcing his retirement and Ben Hilfenhaus doubtful...so get in there before Wednesday, July 21 and make your changes...

"Nobody beats Vitas Gerulaitis 17 times in a row"......that famous statement of 31 years ago possibly rang true at the Headingly and Pakistan can now say "Nobody beats Pakistan 14 times in a row".....Pakistan lost 13 consecutive Tests to Australia in 15 years before finally winning one.....maybe they should play all their Home Tests away from Pakistan
srini701 becomes the first person in this year's comp to win a second HoF and cuts Sypher's lead at the top to just 36 points. But with 20 rounds to go, this comp is still wide, wide, wide open. Let's talk about leads only after a while now...
Ozz2002 finally picks up his first spoon in the 7th round, leaving Sypher and Howie71 the only spoonless wonders from our starters. Doomed of course started only a round ago....Have I spoken too soon? Let's see...
The next round starts a new series between England and Pakistan. Should be a good series of 4 rounds....you not keen on visiting the forums every round or confused about dates, lodge your team for the next round (starting Thursday, July 29) and let it score for a full 4 rounds
I am also planning a HUGE bumper round AFTER the second Test of Pakistan-England (after round 9). Round 10 will be a tri-series round from August 10 involving India, Sri Lanka and New Zealand......Keep an eye out for this please.
