  • India finally got the better of the fighting New Zealanders, winning the 3rd Test by an innings and some thousand runs to win the series. They now play a useless 5-match ODI series which we will ignore and head Down Under for the next leg of our comp....

  • gtho4 continues to surge up and picks up yet another HoF spot...he is fast closing in on Ozzz, who managed a spoon for this round, his 4th in the comp.

  • The next leg of the comp starts with the Ashes...here's hoping the name "Ashes" will stir some of our regulars (read Doomed, Krivoy, MrFox and Eraserhead confused) to return to the comp here... frown

  • After the first 2 Ashes Tests, we will also include the 3 India-South Africa Tests (in SA) alongside the last 3 Ashes Tests, and those 3 rounds may in all likelihood, decide the podium places here...

Remember to post your tips for the Brisbane Test BEFORE Nov 25.

  • And so the most eagerly anticipated series of the cricketing year gets off with a dull, drab draw....how many really expected there to be a result either way at Brisbane? Honest answers, please....I know I didn't...I only wished I picked the right side for this round mad

  • Ozzz2002 did, with all his Aussie players performing superbly for him (who'd expect Haddin to score a big hundred? I didn't, for sure cry ). Ozzz flies up the ladder with that superb round and is past Howie72, with paper_aero next on his radar.

  • srini701 had the second most lousy side this round (see the round scores) and slips behind Sypher once again confused. The only consolation srini gets is that gtho4 managed an even worse team than him this round.

  • I always loved that statement from 1986 about a journalist who wrote about the England team about to embark on an Ashes series...thing is, it's just about right for the form Mitchell Johnson finds himself in right now....he can't bat, can't bowl and can't field grin...I mean, how can you go through a whole Test match for 5 days and not score a run, not hold a catch or take a wicket? Johnson did, and scores a big, fat zero this round, pulling down 5 of the 7 tipsters here who had him in their teams....will Johnson play the second Test? Who knows? Better if the 5 who picked him drop by and choose an alternate for the second Test wink

  • One thing I do Know for sure is that N-Bomb will cross the 10K mark the next round smilee (unless he decides to prove me wrong and picks 5 guys who will NOT step on the field)

Doomed drops off this round and all/any other default players will drop off AFTER the NEXT round. Rounds 23, 24 and 25 will feature BOTH the Ashes and the India-SA series (big scoring rounds those 3) and we close with the Australia-England 7 ODIs squeezed into 2 rounds.

If you don't want to pick a team for the next round (starting Dec 3), that's fine, but do take a look at your team before you decide on that smile

  • Can this Australian team take 20 England wickets in a Test match? Will Ricky Ponting stay on as captain of Australia, come January? Will Marcus North play another Test in this series? Could I have played for Australia in this Ashes as a spinner if only I emigrated Down Under 10 years ago? cool smile smilee

  • Simon Katich and Stuart Broad are both out for the rest of the series and the way the Aussies are playing, a lot more chopping could be on the cards before the third Test starts...how about Ponting requesting Warne and McGrath to come out of retirement? wink That seems to be the only way he can save himself the ignominy of becoming the first ever Australian captain to lose 3 Ashes...sad way for a great player to go eek frown

  • Over here gtho4 and Ozzz continue to trade places for the 3rd round in a row....Wow!...I just noticed that myself!....for gtho4, it's his 6th HoF spot (most this season) while for Ozzz, it's his 5th spoon (most this season, with gtho4)....

  • While the two heroes from Australia continue their own little bout, paper_aero is silently creeping up on 2nd placed srini701, and is less than a 100 points away now....Sypher at the top is a further 60 points off, which as we have seen in this comp, is negligible! Who knows how the final table will look in this comp now confused

  • All defaulters have now slipped to the bottom places and will slip off the table next round, when the first of the 3 big rounds start....the next 3 rounds should see some massive scoring and further upheavals in the table....they should decide the podium places in all probablity (don't forget, the last 2 rounds will feature a whopping 7 ODIs and could prove crucial too)

The next round starts December 16 and will also feature the first of the India - South Africa Tests....please don't wait till the last minute to lodge your teams for this round...

  • Australia bounced right back into the Ashes and Ricky Ponting probably saved himself his captaincy and his place in the team as well smile Mitchell Johnson turned from villain to hero in one Test and the Australians will certainly be a happier lot by the time the Boxing Day Test arrives in Melbourne. They have already announced an unchanged team for the 4th Test and it is England which is contemplating changes to its side now smile

  • India too will have to make a few changes for the second test after its abject capitulation in the first innings against South africa and a dismal bowling performance frown The only saving grace was Sachin Tendulkar's 50th Test century....he has now scored 11 of his 50 Test centuries in a losing cause (as against 20 in winning Tests) cry

  • The first of the big rounds here saw quite a few movements as expected. srini701 had a monster of a trump pick in Jacques Kallis and vaults right back into the lead at the top of the ladder. Sypher had all decent picks, except the trump crazy in Kevin Pietersen and as a result, he slips back again.

  • gtho4 moves past Ozzz2002 and is right behind Howie72. He also had all decent picks except for the beleagured Aussie captain (who has also broken a little finger now crazy) paper_aero was another with a decent team but Zaheer Khan did not play the Test, probably costing a few valuable points to paper there.

  • Ozzz2002 had the weirdest team of us all. He had one monster of a pick in Michael Hussey, but more than made up for that by picking Michael Beer (how much more Aussie can you get with a name like that?) and proving he's a quintessential Aussie grin and a total surprise packet in Wridhiman Saha for India (with all those classy batsmen around, why would anyone pick Saha? confused) He also had a weird second trump in Mark Boucher, and so has probably has left himself a little mountain to climb over the last 4 rounds frown

  • That leaves us with N-Bomb who had the second best score for the round, but had a wrong pick frown He picked 4 batsmen for the India-South Africa Test instead of 3, and I didn't notice it till I compiled the teams this morning crazy . I had no choice but drop one of his batsmen from his team (usually the last named one, which would have been Tendulkar in this case). But since N-Bomb is a newcomer and I certainly can do with more participation in this comp, I dropped the least scoring batsman from his side (Sehwag). I hope the others will not mind this blush

The next round start on December 26 and we could well see a lot more movements here in our comp if you pick "wisely". Good luck with selecting your teams now and Have a wonderful Christmas, everybody smile

  • Have we seen an all-time great player play a Test match for the very last time? I hope Ricky Ponting will NOT lead a Test side again, but certainly hope he will continue to play for at least another year or so frown confused There aren't enough "great" players right now and we certainly can do with a Ponting of the old for some time....

  • England wrapped up the Ashes with a match to spare and Ricky Ponting becomes only the second Australian captain EVER to lose 3 Ashes series and the first one to lose at home in more than 24 years!

  • India however "bounced" right back, winning, of all places, at Durban! Yayyy! VVS Laxman played a classic for the umpteenth time (shame on me for not even having my favorite player in my side crazy and 3 LOUD cheers to Ozzz for having him as a trump too!) and India won with a day to spare to prove why they are the world's best Test side right now (no matter that they might lose the next Test and the series grin)

  • Ozzz2002 also bounced right back into a podium contention here with some tremendous picks. He once again moved past gtho4 and is pushing Howie72 for the 4th spot...

  • At the top, srini701 slipped yet again and just beat the spoon by a single point eek Thankfully for him, Sypher did not run away too far this round and I get the feeling this comp will be decided only in the very last round this time...

  • Somebody must have told Mike Hussey about our tipping comp and that he is the ONLY player to be selected by every tipster (now, out of 60 odd cricketers in the mix for the 2 Tests, that does make a very impressive reading cool)...so he promptly went and failed for the first time in the series, landing 3 of us who had him as trump to boot, in a soup (hey, does that rhyme? whistle)

The next round starts in the New Year, so thanks everybody for joining me in 2010 and hoping to see you all around a LOT in 2011 too, have a great NEW YEAR!

  • A very warm welcome to the latest tipping comp entrant Rossian smilee....she enters the comp on the home stretch (with .195 to go in the 42.195 race smilee), but hey! newcomers are ALWAYS welcome, especially for comp's like mine (just wish they last the course confused crazy)... Rossian, there are 2 more rounds to go in this season's comp, so join us and have some fun along the way!

  • paper_aero and gtho4 blitzed the field this round with awesome tips. Sypher and N-Bomb were the others with a very impressive round there. paper_aero is set to knock srini701 off the 2nd spot if he has another good round like this and if srini continues to dream.

  • gtho4 has knocked both Ozzz2002 and Howie off his path and is now looking at the podium in a dramatic turn-around. Thing is, has he left his surge a little too late? We will know pretty soon...

  • Sypherhas his nose back in the front and is assured of a podium finish in this season's comp....

This round scores are coming a bit too late for me to recap the matches, so let's not bother about that smile

The last 2 rounds will feature the 7 ODIs between Australia and England and the threads will be up soon as the Australian team is announced. The first ODI starts January 16, so make sure you come in before that and lodge your tips for the penultimate round....

Australia have named a squad ONLY FOR THE FIRST ODI (Jan 16). The idea is to give a chance for a few players to press their claims for the World Cup. They will name a different squad for the remaining 6 ODIs.

If there are wholesome changes, it won't make sense for us to pick a team here for 4 ODIs as originally thought. So with your permission, we will NOT cover the first ODI for our rounds here and cover the last 6 ODIs in 2 rounds (3 matches each).

The second ODI is on Jan 21 so I will post the thread soon as the Australian team is announced and you can come in before the match starts and lodge your tips.

  • It promises to be a very tight finish here for us....Sypher slipped, but srini701 didn't do too great either but these two may just have wrapped the 1-2 positions.

  • paper_aero confirmed the 3rd place for himself with a nice round there.

  • Howie72, N-Bomb and Rossian all had a great round there, scoring 700+ points and Howie will be wondering.....

  • The last round will hold interest here only for the top spot now, so a detailed wrap up only after the last round.....

  • All Hail our new World Cricket tipping comp champion Sypher! He closed the comp in style, winning his 5th HoF and comfortably securing his top spot, to add another title/crown to his growing collection. Congratulations to you, SIR!

  • srini701limped home in second place, glad he managed to hold on to that spot at least frown against a fast-improving paper_aero. paper_aero, who was more than 1300 points behind srini at one stage, finished an agonisingly close 56 points off the second spot at the end....phew tired!

  • Howie72finished in 4th place and as is the case with him in every comp, was rampaging towards the end...if only he had not resorted to lodging the same teams for entire series throughout the comp, who knows, he may well have retained his title in style confused....we will only know in the next comp wink! paper_aero also mostly stuck with one team for entire series this comp...so guess thatleaves us with mixed results there....they both did well in some rounds and flopped in others with the same sides, so it all evens out in the end....

  • gtho4 had more HoF wins this season than anybody else, but he also had some pretty average runs along the way....guess this is one comp our grand master is yet to come to terms with.....am sure he will plot his way to the title pretty soon here too one of these days smilee

  • Ozzz2002 seemed to have fun all along the way...he made some outrageous picks, some came off, most did not, but he didn't seem to care....got to love this man's spirit smile Hope to see you in the comps for many more seasons here, sir...

  • N-Bomb came into the comp midway through, and he may well have made a much bigger impression if he was there from the beginning. He had some of the best scores in most rounds he was in and only the default scores he started off pulled him back.....maybe the next comp will be for you to make a bigger explosion, N-Bomb laugh

  • Rossian dropped by towards the very end of the comp, so guess we will have to wait for another comp to know how good she really can be.....hang in there, Rossian...would love to see you take part in antire cricket comp smilee

  • We also had KrivoyRog, MrFox, Conzabhoy and Eraserhead dropping by at various stages but maybe I did not interest them enough to last the course frown cry .....Krivoy in fact led a round and lasted the first 6 rounds before dropping off frown Would love to get some feedback on what I can do to make this comp better in future and ensure more people play and last the distance

  • One thing I will definitely do is trim the comp...It was only because of the Ashes that I stretched this comp from May 2010 till now, but going forward, all World Cricket comps will only be run during the English summer and last between May and September.

My sincere thanks to all of you for playing the comp smile...hope you enjoyed it as much as I did running the comp and that you will come back for the next edition in May 2011....until then.......if you want more cricket comp (and without any players to ponder about)........

There's the ICC Cricket World Cup starting Feb 19 and the IPL T20 comp from April 9 coming up....

Thanks for running this Srini701...it sure made cricket more interesting because before this comp, I didn't even bother to look at the scores when they were in the papers...now, I check on them daily but thats only to see how my players were doing.

Looking forward to the next one !!

Thanks for running the show, Srini. I'll try and join at the beginning next time and not be propping up the table.
