The June 4th 1989 Beijing massacre is about to be commemorated tomorrow night, here in Hong Kong. It has been 21 years since that appalling day. The news programmes have played the scenes over and over as usual, and they do not get any less awful.

It is still very vivid in my memory, as it happened right as I was starting university life. Since then "Chinese solution" means "Killing dissent by killing the dissenters".

Ghastly event

Our esteemed leader The Donald (Tsang that is) and his misguided cronies, refused the students of the University the right to display the statue of the Goddess of Democracy , plus another work of art titled the "Tianamen Massacre" , on campus.
As a result there was a public outcry, and many more attended the commemoration than usual.Unfortunately the attitude seems to be still that students do not hold mature views or have the right to protest. By the same token, Hong Kong people cannot vote for their government, even though near neighbours like the Philippines and Thailand can.
Lets hope these peaceful demonstrations continue and give us a result.

21 years? Wow.
