Good question. Yes I read more now than I did. I go to the library at least once a week and read for an hour in bed before sleeping, also on the train to work. Our TV is real rubbish here and I watch about one programme a night. I spend a lot of time on my PC too, but I still read more than I ever did.

I used to read a lot more, before work and life got in the way. Now I try to read at least once a day, even if it's only a few pages.

I have to admit that I don't seem to be reading (or listening to music, for that matter) as much as I used to. I seem to be spending more time on the Internet. I really must get back into the reading habit, because I'm still buying books, and according to my catalogue on the "Library Thing" site I now have about 400 that I haven't read.

I don't read even half as much as I used to since I started working. A fair amount of my free time is spent on FT. I also prefer to go outdoors when I've time since I'm inside the office for almost 8 hours a day. My commute is hardly 10 minutes which is a real blessing but doesn't give me any time to read.

I read a lot less now than I used to (interestingly, too ... since I have so much more free time to do it). Back when I was in the bookstore biz, reading [at least] three new books a week was not unusual. Not only was there the employee discount on buying them but we could also 'borrow' hardcovers for a three-day interim, the idea being that we could then promote them in the store. Now, though? My vision has been so damaged that I have a truly difficult time looking at a page and speeding through it like I once did. On the computer I can read just fine (the screen is lit, the words aren't difficult to see) BUT I have a really hard time, on a personal level, reading a book off a screen, for some reason. I like to tote my books around with me, read a chapter over lunch, fall asleep with it on my belly, etc. I still read books, o' course ... but not as fast as I'd prefer to. It's now a little bit more 'work' than it is 'leisure', unfortunately.

Sadly I no longer spend every spare minute reading as I did before life and family took over. Moving to a non-English speaking country really put the kaibosh on my addiction to books and reading as it became increasingly difficult and expensive to buy books, and borrowing from the library is not an option. I miss it as much now as I did 12 years ago when I first found myself unable to pop into a nearby bookstore for a browse At the height of my carefree reading days I would devour a book a day (or a night, more often). At present I can say that I have read 6 books in the last couple of months (four of them in a 1 week period, the other 2 I 'saved up' and have just finished this last week). I let everything go when I get engrossed in a book, neither housework, mealtimes nor kids can pull me away from a good read. I really miss it and absolutely nothing has really replaced it, although I do keep busy with gardening and crafty bits'n'pieces to fill the gap. Just not the same satisfaction, sadly.

I hardly read at all anymore and I used to read a LOT. Not sure why that is, but I guess I've been steadily spending more time on computer and less time reading books, and eventually almost all my free time became spent on the computer. Especially since while in university I did a good chunk of my required reading on the computer too, I just got used to always being attached to it...
I am presently reading a book that I've been working on since last August. lol. It was my reading-on-the-bus book when I was working last year, and my commute really isn't very long so it was being read very slowly. Then when my job ended it kind of just stayed in my purse and didn't get read. Started working again last month, so I'm inching my way through the book again. I have read a couple of whole books in between, mostly ones that I put my name on the waiting list at the library for a year ago and they're just now becoming available.

I read a lot less now than I used to. In the early days of my marriage, I might start a book on the weekend and neglect everything until I finished it. Once I had a child, I couldn't do that any more. Reading went from being a necessity to being a luxury. In recent years, the time spent at the computer has eroded my reading time, as has switching from part-time to full-time work. But I still keep buying books, so I have a mountain of them that I have yet to read. I should live so long! Most of my reading time now occurs while waiting at the doctor's or dentist's.

I seem to read less these days, with real life, but do a lot more "audio book listening".

The_lioness, the irony is that school often prohibits people from reading books! I stopped reading fiction entirely (was put off by the books chosen in school and no longer had time with exams) and now only read factual books. I read factual books all the time...mostly about science, but philosophy, politics and history are fair game.
Ours doesn't do that, thankfully. Except the teachers do tend to disapprove if you read during their lessons ^^
English sets us books to read, but for the most part they are good books. I'm a fast reader anyway, and usually finish weeks ahead of my class. Leaves me time to read for leisure.

I don't read as much as I used to, but lately I have been reading more than I have in the past few years.

Over the last several years, I've stopped reading. I don't remember why but I'm trying to rekindle my interest in it. Does anyone have a favorite author they believe I might enjoy? Thanks.

That's like asking if anyone has a favourite food you might enjoy! We would need to know you and what you like before suggesting any authors.

I don't turn away any book suggestions. I like history, some romance, sci-fi, horror, the list is endless.
I am currently working on "The Language Instinct" and once "The Brain That Changes Itself" becomes available, I will also be involved in it.
I would like to know if anyone has read Rider Haggard. I also like Jules Verne.
Thanks for any suggestions you make.

Thanks for the mention of "The Language Instinct", I got it from the library and it looks really interesting. I am really enjoying "Shanghai"by Christopher New, part of his China Trilogy. He is a wonderful writer, places and people are so well painted.

I try to... I'm down to about 10 books a year now - mostly reading through summer - but I used to read a lot more. Especially as a kid ( I was a bit of a nerd!)

Still read at least three books a week... spend MUCH less time watching TV - way too little Australian content, and what there is, is usually rubbish. What free time I have after I've been to work, checked stock & read is divided between the computer and the craft room.

I feel sad that I don't read as much as I used to. I always had a book going, sometimes two at a time. And now...I'm lucky if I finish one book every two or three months. I still love going to the book stores and seeing what's new, but now I buy much less. I even have a Kindle on my phone and currently have three books on it that I haven't finished. It seems like there's always something else I need to be doing; I don't even get on FT as much as I would like.
