This year's FT-PL comp will be the 8th edition of this head-to-head tipping comp. For those of us who are unfamiliar with this comp, it's a round-robin league system where everybody plays everybody else twice (aka home and away), and everyone picks the 10 weekly games played in the FA Premier League .. it's a head-to-head contest where the winner receives 3 pts and it's one point each for a draw .. aka if you pick 8/10 and your opponent picks 6/10, you win!
The only change from last year's comp is default .. if you forget to lodge picks you receive the wooden spoon's picks. Default was previously the average -1 which saw many non-lodgers win games. Non-lodgers will now lose, unless they jag it and non-lodge vs. the wooden spooner for a drawn game.
The field is limited to a maximum of 16 runners and, unlike other comps in here where you may simply post your picks in the first tipping thread *or* sign-in,
you must sign in here to enter this comp, so that the weekly head-to-head fixtures can be put together. If less than 16 sign-up, that's the field. If more than 16 apply, preference will be given to the tipsters who sign-in first, in this sequence, class A to class R:
[ A ] the 13 tipsters who finished #1 to #13 in last year's comp.
[ B ] players who've participated in any season long tipping comp, from start to finish (except class R).
[ N ] newbies and anyone else (except class R).
[ R ] the tipsters who finished #14 and lower in last year's FT-PL comp (it's our
de facto promotion and relegation system).This year's comp starts on Saturday 14th August 2010 and ends on Sunday 22nd May 2011. As foreshadowed last year, we will only tip 30 of the 38 rounds played - all mid-week rounds are ignored and all FA Cup weekends prior to the cup final are ignored. We will only tip weekend games (aka once a week) and thus, hopefully, reduce the number of non-tippers running default, and also reduce the number of rounds where we have less than 10 games to pick. That's the plan, let's see how it pans out.
To allow time for the weekly schedule of who's-playing-who to be, firstly, put together and, secondly, posted in the tipping threads, the deadline for signing-up is midnight FT time on
Saturday 31st July .. there's a grace period of 2 or 3 hours, but please don't push your luck past that. Putting the weekly draw together is not an easy task .. I've already started to pull my hair out thinking about it, as ElfTwinkle has always put this together for us in prior years.
Please note that there will be no byes this year; we must have an even number of contestants. If we have less than 16 players sign-up and it's an odd number, sign-up will be left open and the next person to sign-in is it, that's the field. If no one signs-in after 3 days (by Tuesday midnight) the sequence A-B-N-R will be used to exclude one player!
The defending titleholder is gtho4, paper_aero was last year's runner-up, and PaulE came home third. The comp before that was also won by gtho4, Sypher was the runner-up, and srini701 came home third.
