It's a re-run of least year's opening week in the FT Premier League .. there were no draws. Half of us lost and half of us won and, therefore, just 3 pts separate top and bottom!

The number of runners has been reduced from the 20 who played last year down to 16 and, in addition, we introduced a de facto promotion and relegation by excluding the bottom 3 places from automatic entry into this year's comp (14th, 15th, 16th plus the bottom four via reduction in size). When the deadline came and went for signing-up, we had exactly 16 acceptances! Of the 13 automatics spots 11 signed-up .. illiniman14 and BxBarracuda took up 2 of the three promotion spots. DanielPoulson, szabs and Copago filled the remaining three positions .. they retained their spot despite being relegated (they finished 14th, 15th and 16th).

The fixture list round-by-round is at the top of the page (it's the 3rd post in this thread). The post below it shows, by player, who everyone's playing in weekly sequence.

There are 38 rounds in the FA Premier League, but only 30 rounds in the FT Premiership. We ignore all mid-week rounds (aka all FT-PL rounds are now on weekends only), plus all FA Cup weekends except the final. We also skip a few weekend rounds to get us down to the 30 we need to run the FT-PL. This will give us two 4 week breaks .. one over the Christmas-New Year period, and one during the month of March.

That's one down, and 29 to go .. the final round is on Sunday 22nd May 2011!

The top 5 avoid each other next week, ditto the bottom 5 .. they don't play each other either. This means that, next week, we could see the top five move to 3 wins apiece and a 100% record, and the bottom 5 move to 3 losses for a 100% record of the other variety.

However, if the top five all lose and the bottom five all win, it'll be one enourmous logjam.

We had two draws this week, our first for the season. One of them was the 7-7 draw szabs v Copago. The two ladies were weekly winners with picks of 7/10 but failed to win, as they were drawn to face each other this week when their ball was pulled out of a barrel at the start of the season .. they collect a point each. Some us picked 5/10 and scored 3 pts for a win!

Howie72 was the other weekly winner. He's our new leader replacing LeoDaVinci (held to a draw by Sypher) who slips to 4th place behind the three out front.

Last week we had 5 players with a 100% win record and 5 players with a 100% loss record .. this week we're down to 3 with 100% wins and 4 of the other variety. The top 3 avoid each other in the next round, but two of the cellar-dwellers play each other: illinman14 v gtho4. One of them will discard their 100% loss record!

We had no draws in the first two rounds, and two draws last week in Round 3. It was the same story this week, two draws and six winners. One of them was ozzz2002, who maintains his 100% strike rate with 4 wins from 4 games, ditto srini701. LeoDaVinci, two pts in arrears is also undefeated.

The record start to a season is 7 games undefeated (scroll up a few posts to the FT-PL Record Book for the details) and, as none of the top 3 play each other next week, we could see that record fall to one (or more) of these three by the first weekend in October.

At the other end, four players are still searching for their first win .. but they're a long way off breaking any records. The record start to a season is 13 win-less games, set by ozzz2002 at the start of the 2006-07 comp .. it's the bloke who's out front all on his lonesome at the moment!

ozzz2002 is held to a draw but retains his lead. LeoDaVinci replaces srini701 (who had his first loss for the season) as his co-passenger on the front seat. The two leaders are still undefeated.

At the other end, illiniman14 broke his duck with his first win and we're now down to 3 players still looking for their first win of the season. None of them face each other next week.

It was a full house this week with 16 of 16 lodging picks. Between us we lodged 192 picks and hit pay dirt with just 27 for a strike rate of 14.0% .. which is an average of 1.4 goals each!

This is the lowest ever in the FT Premiership and only just above the 13.4% low water mark that was achieved in week 13 of the UEFA Champions League back in the 2005-06 season .. 9 of the 16 players scored just one goal, and gtho4 went one better with a big fat zero for a Golden Wood.

Arsenal lost at home and Newcastle lost at home; both games were picked by no one .. and 4 games were solo picks .. aka 6 of the 10 FA Premier League games were picked by no-one, or by one only! The dour 1-0 win by BxBarracuda v gtho4 equals the record for the fewest goals scored by a winner in the history of the FT Premiership. Next lowest is 3-0 and 2-1 (i.e. we have never seen a 2-0 scoreline).

ozzz2002 was held to a draw by PaulE but retained his lead to make it 6 weeks straight as the leader of the pack. LeoDaVinci scored 3 goals and lost! It was his first loss for the season, leaving ozzz2002 as the only undefeated player. One more week and he'll equal the record for the longest undefeated run at the start of the season. At the other end, three players broke their duck .. BxBarracuda, Copago and DanielPoulson all had the first wins of the season.

The top 4 play each other next week .. ditto the bottom 6 players.

It was another full house this week with 16 of 16 lodging picks .. and every one of the 8 games resulted in a win (most of them by a one-goal margin) .. there were no draws!

The top 4 played each other, and the bottom 6 played each other .. and the lack of draws meant no one retained their position from last week. Everyone moved up or down a spot or two, or three!

LeoDaVinci and srini701 are our new leaders, replacing ozzz2002, who falls back to 6th place. DanielPoulson flogged BxBarracuda 5-1 to move off the bottom rung (he gave his spot to BxBarracuda). Copago wins again to make it two straight, and climbs up to to 11th, her highest position for the season.

Sypher wins again to make it 3 straight .. he moves up to 5th place (a new high for the season). Both cellar dwellers lost .. first beat last, and 3rd beat second last. There were no draws this week, and no one from 2nd through to 8th retained their spot from last week .. srini 701 lost again to make it 3 straight losses and fell to 8th place, once again a new low-water mark for the season.

Sypher picked 6/10 but still lost; to DanielPoulson who saw his first weekly win for the season .. that ended Sypher's run of three straight wins. DanielPoulson has now extended his undefeated run to 5 games and climbs up to 11th place, a new high-water mark .. he started the season with 5 straight losses!

paper_aero won again to make it two straight and 3 wins in 4 games. He climbs up into 2nd place for the first time this season replacing KrivoyRog, who fell from 2nd to 5th. KrivoyRog was belted from pillar to post by ozzz2002, who won 7-2. BxBarracuda won again to make it three straight .. he started the season with 3 straight losses!

After 10 rounds the top 7 are now separated by 7 pts (it was 4 pts last week, the week before, and the week before that). The next round sees the first four play each other: 1st vs, 3rd and 2nd vs. 4th. Will we have a new leader next week?
