Six of the 12 FLC games were draws, leaving those of us who don't pick draws looking at a theoretical maximum of just 6/12.
Howie72 picked three draws and all three hit pay dirt. He scores back-to-back weekly wins with another 7/12 and turns a 5 pt deficit behind paper_aero into a 1 pt surplus. It's now his turn out front.
That's 8 weekly wins for the year; and six of them have come in the last 8 weeks .. Howie72 is coming come with a wet sail.
The rest of us mere mortals are struggling to keep up with the scorching pace set by the two runaways .. they have now put 14 pts between themselves and 3rd place!
LeoDaVinci and FussBudget collected unwanted wooden spoons, and fall further behind third spot. With just five rounds left, another spoon may see the end of their race for bronze.
KrivoyRog skips away from the three tail-enders, who are now separated by a mere 2 pts (it was 4 pts last week).

More of the same out front. Howie72 is still a point in front of paper-aero .. and the gap between the two leaders and 3rd place has grown again.
With just 4 rounds left in this marathon, it looks like Howie72 and paper_aero will cross the line together in a photo finish. Howie72 needs to stay in front on points as a dead-heat will see paper_aero win this on a countback.
Bronze should go to either Sypher or PaulE .. Sypher's a slight favourite as he's still in front of PaulE, and has better countback figures.
At the other end two of the three cellar-dwellers are this week's winners, leaving ozzz2002 all alone at the rear of the field.
Derby County held QPR to a draw in the Monday night game, which should be enough for Derby to avoid the drop.
One of the four teams behind QPR will take the second promotion spot, leaving the next three in 6th to 8th to do battle for 6th place and the last play-off spot.

Howie72 and paper_aero continue with their version of musical chairs. We're back to where we were 33 weeks ago in Round 14, a dead-heat out front. The musical chairs will finish in a fortnight, as there are only three rounds left.
The gap back to 3rd place did not grow this week .. it was cut in half from a mammoth 15 points to a mere 8 points! Sypher picked 10/13 and a weekly win. He also scored 4 bonus pts, to put him in the FLC Record Book as the 5th player in FLC history to score 4 bonus pts in one round. The gap back to 4th place is now 9 points (it was just 1 pt last week), which should see Sypher secure the bronze medal.
At the other end gtho4 collects a wooden spoon and rejoins the two cellar-dwellers in the battle for last place and the comp's wooden spoon.
Leeds United were held to a draw at home by Reading and slipped out of the play-off spots. The teams below them won to make it a gaggle of 5 teams separated by a mere 3 points (that's just one win) .. and only one of them can occupy 6th place and the final play-off spot.
The next round is just two days away : FLC [ 44 ] Mon 25th April .. none of those five teams play each other. The weekend after that is the 2nd last round, and the season ends on the following weekend, on Sunday 8th May 2011, the day after the Kentucky Derby. | Football League Championship

Same as last week and the week before .. there's no change out front. With just one round left, Howie72 and paper-aero are still locked in a dead-heat.
N-Bomb is this week's winner with a humungous 10/12 .. this is just the 9th occasion someone has picked 10/12 or better since the FLC tipping comp started way back whenever (this year's comp is the 5th edition). N-Bomb climbs to 5th spot with that effort; his highest position all season!
Sypher slips to 7 pts behind the leaders, but extends his lead over 4th to 11 pts (it was 10 pts last week, 9 pts the week before and just 1 pt the week before that). PaulE has run out of breath and succumbed by collecting a wooden spoon; he couldn't keep up with the cracking pace set by Sypher over the last three weeks.
That 11 pt margin will be enough see Sypher collect bronze .. he needs wonder picks to catch either of the leaders, and PaulE needs a miracle of divine proportions to erase the 11 pt deficit and catch Sypher, who also has a superior countback. PaulE needs to pick 12/12 (and Sypher to pick 0/12), to fall over the line onto the podium.
At the other end both ozzz2002 and ren33 put in a late surge in their bid to avoid coming last .. the bottom four are now separated by a solitary point, and there's a triple dead-heat for last place! Although he has by far the most bonus points ozzz2002 won't be able to use them .. bonus pts are only used when the countback figures are identical.
All promotion and relegation spots, and play-off spots, have been decided except for the 4th and last play-off spot, which is between Nottingham Forest and Leeds United. Forest will secure it unless there are three miracles on the last day of the season .. Forest lose away to Palace; Leeds win away at QPR; and the goal difference of those two wins is 6+. | Football League Championship

QPR have been promoted as Championship winners after they escaped a points deduction for breaching regulations in the 2009 signing of Alejandro Faurlin. The club were fined £875,000 after being found guilty of two of the seven charges against them relating to the Argentine midfielder's ownership.
QPR had been feared that they could be docked points, which could have left them in the play-off places. But the verdict allowed them to receive the Championship trophy on Saturday. QPR manager Neil Warnock and his players collected the prize at their Loftus Road home after a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Leeds in their final game of the season.
Warnock and the club's directors had been informed of the panel's verdict on BBC1's Football Focus one hour before kick-off...
The verdict ended the possibility of Cardiff or Swansea moving into an automatic promotion place at QPR's expense. But both Welsh clubs confirmed they would not take further action regarding the decision.
The decision not to dock the west Londoners points was made by an independent tribunal convened by the Football Association. The panel imposed a fine of £800,000 for a breach of FA Rule E3 - which relates to bringing the game into disrepute - and a fine of £75,000 for breaking Rule A1, which outlaws the use of unauthorised agents.
The club was warned as to its future conduct with regard to regulatory compliance, and ordered to pay 50% of the costs of the tribunal.

We're all done, the marathon is over .. paper_aero outlasted Howie72 at the post to win gold by 4 pts. Sypher was 6 pts further behind, and 6 points separated Sypher from the fast finishing FussBudget, who was this week's winner with 9/12 plus *four* bonus pts. He's the 6th player to score 4 bonus pts in one round of the FLC tipping comp.
ozzz2002 and srini701 collected this week's spoons .. srini701 hit the jackpot as he scored the double: he also collected the comp's wooden spoon. How ozzz2002 missed the jackpot is a mystery. He's been throwing darts everywhere all season, and collected 52 bonus pts for the season .. take away the bonus points and he would've finished 36 points behind srini701! He established an all-time FLC record during the season when he collected a bonus point for 11 consecutive weeks.
Those two spoons for the two tail-enders enabled ren33 and gtho4 to pull away from, and avoid, the bottom (last week we had a triple-dead heat for last place).
There were 13 runners still standing when we greeted the judges at the finish post .. more than half the field, 7 of 13, had a go out front during the season .. and we also had 7 of 13 have a go at bringing up the rear!
dg_dave occupied every position from 1st to 14th, which was also the biggest differential between high-low positions. The smallest differential was 8-13 by gtho4 .. aka consistent mediocrity, as his high of 8th was the lowest-high achieved by anyone.
This year's comp was the 5th edition of the FLC tipping comp, and paper_aero was our 5th different winner. The defending titleholder was Howie72 .. he almost became the first player to retain their title.
Congratulations to the three medallists, and commiserations to the rest of us; there's always next year. We start another 46 laps in early August. |

Well done to paper_aero for winning this marathon and well done to Howie and Sypher for almost pulling it off Bottom of the heap? That's something nice and new for me  Now I have only one way to go from here....I WILL win this one day....even if I have to bribe my way through the 23 teams or play this for another 23 years....

Bonus picks: for next year I'm thinking of making each bonus worth ½ point each* (rather than getting rid of them completely). It would've changed the position of three players (marked in red below) and the end-of-season wooden spoon would've gone elsewhere. The podium would've remained unchanged.
