When I first started writing quizzes, I was told that every question had to - ahem - ask a question.
I've just played a quiz with just one question mark (arguably in the wrong place) - just statements followed by four answer options.
The quiz, I suppose, works - but it looks a bit odd.

Most recently, I've seen a lot of authors submit quizzes in which questions are not even posed correctly. Something along the lines of:

What is Homer Simpsons middle name.

I keep complaining that I have to note that 'questions must end with question marks' in correction notices.

I'm under the belief that unless the quiz is very self-explanatory, questions must be questions.

Since there is a high possibility of confusion, in Music we always ask that a question must be a question - you might know that you are asking what the name of the song is, but the player can assume you are asking what line comes next, for example.

In other categories, the possibilities for confusion are less, so editors might decide to make it a judgement call. Brain teasers, I've noticed, fairly often don't ask a question.

I've been noticing questions that don't have any II in that new game where gold members get 75 questions per day. I assumed they were from old quizzes, but when I clicked the link to see, it said it was from the individual question thing, whatever it's called. Since that is fairly new, how are those getting added into the system?

I thought that statement "questions" were okay as long as it were clear. Kind of like jeopardy clues, like "This is the capital of Pakistan." And then giving four possible answers. I feel like that's just as clear as asking it with a question mark on the end.

In regards to agony's post, I agree that there can be confusion if a Music quiz were to just give a bunch of lyrics and not actually ask a question, but on the other hand, how confusing can it be if the four answer choices are all song titles, or all band names, or whatever? If it's a fill in the blank, fair enough, you need to be clear what answer you want. But on M/C I don't see how someone can complain that they got the answer wrong because they misunderstood what you were asking. That said, though, I do prefer lyric and other music quizzes that do have a question asked. It just makes it nicer and a better written quiz than simply putting a couple of lines in quotes and that's all.

"Look at him working
Darning his socks in the night
When there's nobody there"

and the answer options are

a)All the lonely people
b)Eleanor Rigby
c)Where do they all belong
d)Loneliness

This is a possible scenario, and it really makes a difference whether the question is "What is the song title?" or "What is the next line?"
This comes up all the time in Music.

Ah. Point taken

I was thinking just having wrong song titles, but all actual titles, not taking other elements of the song and maybe asking "is this the title" sorta thing.
