A quiz about umbrellas mostly but not only exploring their history. Does it go in Entertainment- fashion and accessories or General- thematic 10 questions?

With the reserve that I'm not an editor, I should pick the Entertainment category. Of course the Editors are better placed to answer this tricky question.

By the way, I hope your quiz will be placed on line swiftly. It sounds like a very original theme.

How about History > Specialized History > Social History? There's plenty of quizzes on everyday (and not so everyday) items in there that it might find good company with.

Think about how the quiz would fit in to the existing quizzes in the categories that you are considering. Whatever you consider the best fit, send a message to one of the editors of that category and see if they agree.

I'd like to write a musical tour of the United States, starting in New York City and winding its way through places like Memphis and New Orleans. Where would this go? I thought "General, Mixed, USA" might be the right place - but then would it fit music better? Please advise.

It would depend on the emphasis of the quiz. Would your questions be more about the locations, or the songs?

It wouldn't be about specific songs at all. It would be about different musical genres, and where they developed or are performed.

In that case, General Thematic might be the best fit.

Or perhaps even 'History of Music'.

Put it into Music, Other Music, History of Music, and we'll take a look. If the Music eds feel it doesn't belong there, we'll find a place for it.

You might also want to take a look in Other Music at Music by Region - USA.

I'd like to do a quiz on social policies that impacted on Australian History - Child Migration, Stolen Generation, childrens' homes, orphanages etc.
Would that go in Australian History ? Or is there somewhere else it would fit better ?
Advice please !

Consider your audience - Australian History would certainly be a possibility, but you might find a better fit in Specialized History. I would think either would work fine. (Sometimes the choice has to do with what people who find the quiz from the category will be expecting, rather than any particular requirement. There are a lot of quizzes around that could have been submitted to slightly different categories, so the best target will be found by considering what people will expect when they go to that category and select your quiz. How happy they will be depends on the actual slant and content of your quiz, which you can tailor to the chosen category once you have chosen in.)

I'd suggest submitting to 'Australian History' in the first instance. The quiz can be moved, if necessary.

Looney Tunes & Bloomsby, thank you both very much.
I have one assignment to finish, then will start on the quiz.

I'm dying to know where I would put a quiz about the MIT Mystery Hunt, which is a two- to three-day annual event at MIT that uses puzzles as clues to find a coin that is hidden somewhere on campus. Here's a reference:

World > Colleges and Universities > US Colleges might be appropriate.

Or the Hobbies category in either Games & Toys > Other Games and Toys, or possibly in Outdoor Activities depending on how much of the game is spent outside.

Suppose I want to make a quiz about classifying paintings by their time period (Middle Ages, Baroque, Impressionism, etc.) Would I be correct in saying that the appropriate category is "Humanities > Art > Art Schools and Movement"? If not, which category does it belong in?

Yep, that sounds like an excellent choice! Depending on the spin you give the questions, I could also see such a quiz going in Humanities > Art > Art History. The line between those can be a bit gray!

If you put it into one of those two categories, the editor who looks at it can make a judgment based on the actual questions, and move it next door if that seems like a good idea.

I'm writing a quiz on Australian celebrations and public holidays. Where would be the most appropriate category for this?

World > Seasonal > Holidays would be my first guess. Try browsing there and see if the quizzes there feel like good roommates for your quiz.
