Of the 8 games played one was picked by no-one and one was a solo pick. Howie72 and LeoDaVinci picked the rest for 6/8 and a weekly win.

In a repeat performance from the previous round Inter Milan, the defending UEFA Champions, once again lost at home .. somehow KrivoyRog foresaw this. He collected a bonus pt for this outrageous solo pick.

No one picked Chelsea to be behind at home at half-time. The nine players who picked a draw score the bonus point. The red devil LeoDaVinci wasn't one of the nine!

Why weren't Chelsea awarded a penalty and Patrice Evra sent off for the hack against Ramirez in injury time? Thank heavens I don't support Chelsea as I'd be ropable, screaming blue murder; if it had happened against ManU we'd probably never hear the end of it from Sir Alex and his crew.

Who did UEFA choose to referee this match? They chose Alberto Mallenco, the Spaniard who awarded 9 yellow cards (one of them was a 2nd yellow and a red) in the Germany v Serbia game in June last year at the World Cup. Anyway, I digress.

Sypher and triviapul were this week's wooden spooners;
that's spoon number 4 for Sypher and
three of them have come in the last five rounds.
srini701 reduces the gap behind gtho4 to 3 pts, which
is one less than last week.
the 6 players in 3rd to 8th are separated by 4 pts,
which is also one less than last week.
toocool4u is still looking for his first weekly win.
srini701 is the only person without a spoon.

There's no time for respite. The second leg of the quarter-finals will be played next Tuesday.

We all hit pay dirt with every game this week .. every game was picked by some-one, and there were no solo picks and thus, for the 3rd time this season, there were no bonus pts.

We had 3 weekly winners and 3 spoons this week. It was back-to-back weekly wins for Howie72, who climbs to 5th spot (a new high for the season). Spoon number 5 for Sypher sees him continue to fall down the table .. four of those spoons them have come in the last six rounds. Somehow or other, Sypher has more spoons than ozzz2002 .. wonders will never cease!

A wooden spoon for gtho4 sees him step aside for srini701 to take over the front-running duties (and another player reaches a new high point for the season).

The first 8 players are now separated by just 5 pts (it was 8 pts last week). In other words, half the field are still in this, with just three rounds left .. advance points come into play for the these rounds, and some of us are rather thin with live picks (see next post).

toocool4u is still looking for his first weekly win, and srini701 is the only person without a spoon.

The next round is in a fortnight's time, when the four semi-finalists meet in the 1st leg : UEFA ( 17 ) Tue 26th April.

We all hit pay dirt with every pick except one, the advance pick for Schalke04. There were no solo picks and thus, for the 4th time this season, there were no bonus pts.

George95 scores back-to-back weekly wins and climbs the ladder to 10th place, 10 pts behind the leader .. two rounds back he was 16 pts in arrears. KrivoyRog collects back-to-back wooden spoons to join Sypher with 5 spoons each.

N-Bomb was the only player in the first 8 places who retained their position from last week .. srini701 steps aside for PaulE to return to the top of the pile, which is where he was at the start of the comp. The first eight players are separated by 8 pts (it was 5 pts last week and 8 pts the week before).

toocool4u is still looking for his first weekly win, and srini701 is the only person without a spoon.

We're now down to just two rounds left, the 2nd leg of the semis and the final .. both of them have advance picks as part of their points, and some of us are rather thin with live picks (see last round's results post). The penultimate round is mid-week next week : UEFA ( 18 ) Tue 3rd May.

illiniman14 is this week's winner with 7/8 plus a solo pick .. he picked the lot except half-time at Old Trafford. George95 follows up back-to-back weekly wins with a wooden spoon .. the other three spoons were identical to those awarded two rounds ago: well done to KrivoyRog Sypher and gtho4 for our encore performance.

srini701 is still looking for his first spoon.

We're now down to just one round: the final : Barcelona vs. Manch United : which is a re-run of the 2009 UEFA CL final. Barcelona won 2-0.

The 10 of us who have chosen either of the two finalists as the winner with our advance pick back in Round 14 (Manch Utd x6 and Barcelona x4) will receive a guaranteed 3 pts in the last round (it's 5 pts if they win). Those of us whose pick lost their semi-final earlier today will receive 2 pts (Real Madrid x2). That adds to 12 .. the other two advance picks (lost their quarter-final) will receive one point.

Five points max for the advance pick leaves us with 3 picks for 3 points in the last round.

* a strike rate of just 25% for a weekly win is probably an all-time record for any FT tipping comp.

N-Bomb picked the lot, half time, full time, first goal plus advance pick for a perfect 8/8 and a bonus point, but failed to catch the leader. PaulE picked 7/8 (he missed the half-time pick) and hung on under enormous pressure to win by one, solitary, single point!

N-Bomb has been on a roller coaster ride in this comp .. he was stone cold motherless after the first round, and by Round 4 had climbed into equal 1st place! Four rounds later he'd tumbled back to mid-field to occupy 9th spot one week before the half way mark of the season .. and for the rest of the season he hovered between 4th and 6th and off the podium, except for the final round.

paper_aero dead-heated with N-Bomb for 2nd place but collects bronze on a countback .. both of them were +2 (being 4-2 vs. 3-1) but N-Bomb won silver as he had more weekly wins than paper_aero.

The three podiums finishers were separated by just one point, but finished a comfortable 3 points clear of the rest of us. Eight of us had a go out front during the season .. that's half the field!

srini701 finished the season with no wooden spoons. His last spoon was in the final round last year .. his spoon-less streak is 19 weeks and will continue into the 2011-12 tipping comp.

1st : PaulE
2nd : N-Bomb
3rd : paper_aero

The defending titleholder was KrivoyRog, and Sypher was last year's runner-up. This year's comp was the 8th edition and PaulE is the 6th person to win this comp .. no-one has retained their title, and only one person has won this twice: doomed. He's won this three times!

That's it for another season. Barcelona are the Champions of Europe, and PaulE is the FunTrivia Champion! Congratulations to the three medallists, and commiserations to the rest of us.
