Total agreement! "Lie to Me" is an awesome show. I watched it weekly its first season --- but then it got scheduled in a place that conflicted with something, and I haven't seen it very much since. Fascinating program/premise, though. Gets a person all nervous and/or keenly aware of their facial expressions/body language, too!

The networks are great at taking all the shows I want to watch for an entire week and showing them all at the same time on different channels!
My boyfriend really likes "Lie To Me", too. I've only gotten to see it a couple of times because I almost always work on Monday nights, but I did enjoy watching it. I'm glad you reminded us all of its return.

A rather interesting article, I think. Kinda mirrors a lot of what has been said here ! The LA Times has nothin' on us ...

I think LoneStar was already canceled - which is odd because a few days ago the ads were still all around the shopping mall!

I will say this, Gats, Imperioli was much better in this week's episode. I just hated his character in "The Sopranos" so much that it carried over. He even played the same "character" in the tequila commercials he does, if you've seen those. haha. But I thought he was pretty good in this latest episode of 1-8-7.

Well, this has been a "TV emergency" week over here . Blech! No access for days (my satellite thingy got screwed up)? Here's the deal: you can mess with me about my nervous system, hip bones and even complain about the way I grill a steak. However! Let's not mess around with my television, eh ? I went into it already fired up enough ~ my set-up had decided to stop airing the FX channel, which meant that I would not be able to see "Terriers" anymore. After my initial tantrum about such turns of events, I did the research ... and discovered that their decision to do that was sound (Rupert Murdoch was trying to price gouge DISH, and we can never settle for such shenanigans -- no matter how much we like just one hour of a particular channel). But, then? The folks upstairs moved out and, evidently, DISH came out here to disconnect them and [oops!] disconnected me, too. I'm an affable sort, mostly. Mistakes like that happen, so I wasn't freaking out. The bigger "then", though? I was told it'd cost me $95 for them to come back out here and fix the problem. What? Like I did it? It was about there that any affability went out the window. All said and done, now, I have a new service provider, CAN watch FX again (I missed a whole ep of "Terriers" and am still not quite over the situation, quite frankly), and so on. And thank you, anyone reading, for that opportunity to rant . Anyway, so I missed stuff after Tuesday until Saturday evening. Caught "The Event". Still intrigued by it. That last scene in the (rather large) makeshift morgue was certainly enough to make a person want to watch tonight, I think. Tuesday was a pretty good night. Even though it's not a hot-button one on this thread, "Glee" popped the best episode I've seen there for some time. Cleverly written! A tad melodramatic as it went (isn't it always?), but this time the drama smacked you in the head like a charming sledgehammer. And they wrote it well. Then came "Raising Hope". Still no complaints on that one. In fact? It's probably the only new one, aside from "Terriers", that I flatly refuse to miss as the Autumn weeks travel. Next up was "Detroit 1-8-7". Partner's back, getting razzed and/or issued adult diapers after his gunshot wound that first night. So the right chemistry's back, too, across-the-board. One little itch on that one, though. That last line of Fitch's (and I'm not quoting, exactly): "If you knew what happened in New York, you'd be crapping in your underpants ..."?! That just didn't sound right, and bothered me for days. A Detroit cop using the words "underpants" AND "crapping"? I don't think so. I get it that they can't use what such a cop might have really said on network TV. But they could have certainly written up something better than that. Somewhere in there, on Monday/Tuesday, I caught "Chase" again. I gotta say: the only reason I kept looking at it was because there was nothing else on. They're trying, but I'm not getting that one. *Rerun Weekend* gave me a chance to see the new "Law and Order". I'll try, but it didn't grab me, first time out. I'm thinking that, in all the other "L & O" franchise, a major 'character' in the mix is the city of New York itself. And I didn't realize that so much until I saw the same format happening in LA. LA has many positives ... but there's a lot more squeezed together quirkiness about NYC that I missed a lot. Saw "Law and Order: UK" on the BBC channel, too, on Saturday (lovin' these new channels ). Now, that version was mighty, mighty good! Aside from "Lone Star", the only other 'official' cancelled one I've read about so far is that dreary, and ambitious about it, "My Generation". No shocker there. That new Maura Tierney legal drama is in serious trouble, too, I'm reading. So much, again, for major hype. The name of the program evades me. Maybe "The Real Truth", or something?

I just wanted to say that I really liked "Blue Bloods." I'm a fan of cop AND hospital programs, so no surprise. Tom Selleck is always wonderful, and his large 'cop' family is interesting.
I hope I haven't cursed it into cancellation...

"The Whole Truth" is what it's called Gats, I believe anyway. Glad to hear you got your TV back! Did you go with local cable or DirecTV? Just curious.
Veronikka, I'm like "Blue Bloods" as well. It is another that reminds me of NYPD Blue, a gritty cop show. I've really never been a fan of Selleck, but I have always liked Donnie Wahlberg's acting. I think the whole cast has been pretty good though.

I'm pretty happy with "Mike and Molly." Laugh out loud is always nice! Although not new, "Parenthood" and "Modern Family" are two of my favorite shows. I can't get into "The Event." I'm not sure I can endure another back and forth program like "Heroes" and "Lost."

I oppose that place plenty. But? I got the best customer service at my place than I've seen in ages! That guy was here for four hours ... insisting that he couldn't possibly fix it after that prior disconnect mangle. But he said, finally: "I won't give up, you're going to have TV tonight!" And, as the days went? I got to see "Terriers", too, after he succeeded. I can't say it enough. That program is the smartest and most engaging show I've seen in a long time. Here I thought "Mad Men" was tops, that way? Not even close. We don't understand, quite, the folks in "Mad Men" (but like them, anyway). "Terriers", though? We ARE them, somehow. Or at least I am.

I've had great luck with DirecTV as well Gats. I've had many different cable providers and also Dish, but DTV still has provided the best customer service in my experiences.
Still haven't caught Terriers. I'll get there eventually, haha.

Anybody see "The Walking Dead" debut on AMC Sunday night (it's in the "Mad Men" slot, now that its season is over)? What a terrific show - at least it was on its first night. The ratings for it pretty much blew the doors off, in terms of cable, too! In addition to a most intriguing premise, the production values on the thing were mostly amazing - another time it was like watching a short movie. Frank Darabont, the director of "The Shawshank Redemption", etc., is behind the project which helps explain that. But I'm still marveling at how much money it must have cost to put that first episode together! It'd better get good (OK, great) ratings hereafter to break even! But the acting is choice, the script was wildly intelligent ~ considering that it's based on a series of comic books I wasn't expecting anything terribly special, on either count. Nice surprise ! One (minor) itch over here, I guess. And it really IS minor, since I don't see why many tots should be allowed to be watching a heavy drama at 10PM on Sunday evenings. I get it that the only way to effectively kill a zombie (?) is to shoot it in the head, and all that. But those multiple shootings that way, in close-up, got to be a tad gut-churning after about the first three times, though. Made even worse by that it looked like they really were getting dispatched that way. Did I mention that the special effects are awesome, too? Hmmm. Scary, smart AND well-produced? Triple threat, for sure.

I happened to catch a rerun of "The Walking Dead" one night when I was working late. I thought it was a movie at first and was kind of disappointed to find out it wasn't because I wanted to see how it would come out. The premise reminds me a bit of Stephen King's novel "Cell", in which most of the world's population is turned into zombies by a cell phone pulse. The main character in that one was also on a trek to find his missing wife and son. I agree that it's a bit gory for my taste, but I'll definitely try to catch the next episode, if only to find out how the main character gets out of that tank!

Anybody catch the Thanksgiving episode of "Raising Hope" on Tuesday night? Truthfully, I've never seen a holiday episode of anything so hilarious ! I hope I live until next summer. Line up some Emmys for that show, and let me watch it win 'em! The guy who plays the Dad there is hysterical! Well, the GRANDdad, I guess. That program is way beyond priceless (in my opinion). As is "The Walking Dead". I honestly keep waiting for it to suck, get cheesy, go over the top, etc. (it's based on a comic book series, after all). But it doesn't! Even when it's a tad sickening to watch (I called Sunday's ep an exercise in "splattervision", recently), that script is so tight and believable. And the actors there, too? Even the lesser ones are top notch. Heck! I'm thinking that even the ones playing zombies, just before their heads get blown off, are wildly talented. Somebody's paying right, good attention to how that show gets put together. Bah, though. Only two more episodes before it goes on hiatus (back in early spring). But, no matter what happens - will now handless Merle ever show up again?, and so forth - I'll be glued. And eagerly waiting to watch.

Yay! I finally caught an episode of "Blue Bloods" (or, as I jokingly referred to it, "Magnum, PI Is Now Older Than Higgins" ) I liked the show a lot - the chemistry in that family is especially good and believable. THAT was the part that made me nervous at first, when I heard about it: a bunch of cops and lawyers sitting around a dinner table together? Yep ... sounded like a barrel o' laughs, to me. But, at said table, they are just a group of humans that love each other, differeces and all. It might take me a minute to really swallow that Donnie Wahlberg son one as a legitimate, promotoble policeman, however, despite his family connections. A tad vigilante-ish, that one. But he's interesting ! That program has promise and longevity written all over it, in my opinion. Once again last weekend, "The Walking Dead" was its regular mixture of (all at once) tragedy, hope, claustrophobic fear, unthinkable horror, etc. Many many heartbreaking choices happening, as seems realistic. Well, at least as realistic as possible ~ once one stretches their imagination to the 'realities' of a world where it seems that 90% of the population seem to be dead, but mobil (and hungry) about it, that is. There's such sporadic examples of breathtaking brilliance on that show. Example: last ep, at the end, when that door opened and that white light spilled out, silhouetting the survivors as it went up (all in different 'body language' poses). The visual was awesome ... and the question arose: Were they 'walking into the light', much like is rumored happens when one approaches "heaven"? Or? Could they perhaps be walking into the fiery bright bowels of Hell? I had to watch it twice, three times. Just to wallow in the creativity of how they tell that story over there.

Sigh. Why do I even work up enough of a sweat to get slightly enthused about a new show? Every time I do it, the thing gets the axe. Yes, despite that it's showing up on nearly every *Best Of* list, in TV categories, for 2010? And that almost all critics consistently gushed in its direction? "Terriers" got cancelled !? At least that last episode didn't leave we viewers of it in too big a lurch. They wrapped up the bulk of the storylines almost completely. Maybe the producers/writers smelled the axe falling, before it finally and officially fell? I'm still mighty peeved that it won't be back, however. I tell ya -- the chemistry between Britt and Hank in that show was amazingly right and effortlessly real. I'll miss 'em.

That always happen to me to the point where I don't usually bother watching new shows because they're just going to get cancelled anyway (yes, I know that is a self-fulfilling prophecy...) Case in point: I just started watching NCIS this season. Yup, it's been on TV for years and I just started. I figured there are enough episodes made already I don't have to worry about getting attached to a show

It's getting near the end of the season for the big 3 1/2 networks, as well as some cable network series ending while others restarting.
My current favorite show, at least until "Burn Notice" returns, has been "Justified" on FX and it's just winding down it's second season. It has intriguing characters and storylines, well written and acted.
"Detroit 187" has been outstanding from start to finish.
"Raising Hope", "Modern Family" and "Big Bang Threory" keep me laughing.
"Fringe" and "The Mentalist" have been staying strong.
The newer version of "Criminal Minds" has kept me interested, good characters.
I still enjoy the original "CSI" still too.
Looking forward to 'Law & Order Criminal Intent" and "In Plain Sight" starting up again shortly.
Now for "The Event".
Being a fan of shows that didn't last as long as they should have, like "Flash Forward", "Journeyman" and going back a bit further "Threshold". "The Event" is a show I can only watch at times like now, while I am more focused on writing this post. There is nothing I am really going to miss by not paying attention, like would happen with many shows I enjoy. I am stil able to keep up with what is going on, a well as not become annoyed by some really bad writing, theories on advanced technology, which they never explain, as well as casting. No offense to fans of Jake Ritter, I am not buying him and certainly not his girlfriend as having the steel to carry out the actions they have. Jack Bauer would snap him like a twig and Piper Perabo would take out the girlfriend in a second. Ian Anthony Dale (Simon) and the ever present Zeljko Ivanek (Blake) are the only characters I find intriguing. I know why I have this view of "The Event" and it's becuase even though it has a sci-fi base to the story, the show isn't for sci-fans in the traditional sense. I saw better writing and character development for a sci-fi show in the old 'Justice League of America" cartoons. Has the President made a right decision yet? He is no President Palmer. He forced the issue to start the release of the prisoners, went full force when they were trapped in the church only to crumble faster then the Washington Monumnet did, then move right to blowing up the busses with missles. Not like Thomas had any brilliant moves, plans maybe, but thinking on his feet, not happening. I am just waiting for the upcoming episode using mutated ill tempered sea bass with lasers on their heads.

The Event in my opinion is a show that doesn't know what it wants to be. Is it a sci-fi? Not much science-fiction happens in this show, more a game of cat and mouse. I have to agree with BxBarracuda, the main characters that are suppose to save the world are no way tough enough metanlly or physcially to do the job. In fact, there are so many gaps in the story that I think the plot fell thru one of them.
And even though it is soo bad, I continue to watch every episode just to see what nonsense the writers have decided to come up with it. Why do shows like this stay, whilst others like Flash Forward, Heroes and Stargate Universe (it has got better) have been cancelled.
