Yeah, I know. Weird topic blush. But I've been thinking about this one lately (after watching a new TV show debut last week, where everybody puked after the baby pooped). Anyway. Back when I was 20-something, a friend let me look after her baby for a day. Pretty weird to do that. I was a single young guy --- and had no idea about babies. But she trusted me. Either that, or she couldn't find another babysitter? Whatever. The little dude's name was Shane -- and we bonded nicely. He peed a couple of times as the day went ~ and I was pretty impressed how ably I could change his diaper and wipe off his parts. But then? Omigod! He pooped! Honestly ... I had never seen that much sludge-like stuff coming out of a little thing smaller than, pretty much, my head! Yikes! It went all over the couch, my arms, the carpet, any nearby pets. You name the location! The TV sitcoms aren't wrong, I think. I picked him up by the arms and threw him in the sink, and hosed him off. He smelled awful (and I figured it'd get called my fault --- but, hey!, he was the one who chugged lunch). But I learned how to bathe a baby that day. He was a mess! And I even (gingerly) washed that butt of his - full aware that, any minute, some awful thing might shoot out of it. And that little poop bucket smelled so good once we were done bathing. He's probably, what?, 30 years old now? But I hope he knows. I washed him up, yelled at him plenty as he let loose, made sure he knew his name was "say what?" that day, and so forth. But I delivered him back to his mother at the end of the day. Smelling like a freakin' lilac, too. Never mind that I scrubbed my couch for weeks.

Any babysitting, baby poop stories out there?

Oddly enough I actually heard a song about it for the first time a few days ago as well. How strange the world is.

I haven't got any unusual stories, just the same babysitting obligations, a few wet ones and then the big stuff and I can't imagine anyone ever getting used to it. But I was at a friend's 50th a few months ago and said I had changed their son's nappy who was now 18 and sitting next to me. The niece was so impressed she asked me to say it again for the film she was making of it. But besides my own cats I spent two weeks in a cattery at 12 mainly cleaning out the litter trays. Somehow that didn't bother me as I had a large sink, rubber gloves and decent brushes. I'd been used to cat poop for years so had got used to that scattered in all sorts of places around the house.

Nope, never had a baby that pooped. You must've gotten the broken one.

Reminds me of the day I brought my brand new baby daughter home. I took off her nappy when she was on her change table and somehow she must have built up some pressure in there because she managed to squirt it about three feet across the room and hit the wall behind me. What a mess! I can laugh about it now but, as she is not yet two years old, there are plenty more poo stories happening almost on a weekly basis! grin

As you most likely have surmised, I am a mother of two children. There are more baby poop stories than is funny. Was baby poop ever funny? Only, perhaps, when it happens to someone else, like Gatsby for instance. smilee

Some of the more memorable moments include taking a bath together with my second sweet little baby when she was fairly new. I don't have to describe it to you; you get the picture. Her big sister never did that! Her big sister did, however, pull off a nasty diaper one day and crawl down the hallway wielding it like a paintbrush along the wall.

Baby poop. A laugh a minute I tell you.

I'm the mother of two of my own and caregiver to a million over the years. I was big sister in a family with four children too.
I find that you get used to it over time if you've bonded with that family but if it's an occasional thing, then it is not always easy!

I think changing a diaper in an airplane when we didn't have the chance to get up as the seatbelt light was on, had to be an all time high! Plus the seatmate was usually a businessman type on US domestic flights. I suppose, and we've already had this talk over and over in these forums, that this is one time when the person next to me would prefer me breastfeeding my infant to me changing the baby!

At one point, children get to the teasing with potty training phase and try to deny they need it. That's rough!

I remember getting the beloved sprog ready for his six-week check, got ready to put a clean nappy on him, and he weed straight up in the air. It landed on his chest and dribbled down till it filled his navel.

Rinse and repeat: this time he weed right up in the air and I can still see his look of surprise when it landed on his face.

And I didn't tell you any of this - OK? smile

I watched some friends infant...ONCE, during an emergency. The wretched little thing had colic. The next time Judy asked if I would come over and watch the baby, I asked her if she had a gas oven. She said, "No. Why?" I told her it was easier to make the baby sleep. She got the point and never asked again.

When my son was an infant, he would sometimes wake up from a nap with poop all the way up his back to his collar. I guess the diapers didn't fit too well smirk Still, those baby days are fond memories for me, poopy diapers and all.

I am with Copago here, two grandchildren and have just told a parent "I think a nappy needs changing". One of the annoying residues of my stroke was that it has affected my sense of smell, I haven't lost it completely but it is not very acute so I can't smell dirty nappies.

Baby poop brought my girlfriend and me together.

I'd post the story, but I'm not sure you'd want to hear it.

My nephew was about 2 and happily playing on the veranda when he started screaming. His mother rushed outside to see what the terrifying threat was. Mitchell was standing there pointing at the horrid and scary thing. A little brown parcel had fallen out of his nappy and it lay there on the veranda harmlessly but it spooked him enough to scream blue murder. His sister on the other hand was about 12 months old and standing up in the bath when she pooped. She picked it up and did what all kids under 15 months do with an object. Yep.. that's right.. she did what you're thinking. She immediately dropped it and never did it again! She's a fast learner wink

How can you want to wipe out such a fertile thread? I can always do with a good laugh and would definitely call this funny business. I'm sure the staff have better jobs to do than dropping this thread...

I received a telephone call a couple of days ago, it was my daughter who immediately said "Alex wants to talk to you", Alex is my little grandson. I listened carefully as his speech isn't the clearest and was rewarded with "I did a poo in the toilet", he then handed the phone back to his mother. See, they do move on from nappies/diapers. smile
