I am trying to remember the name of a movie or miniseries that I once saw about 8-15 years ago. I can't exactly remember when. It is about a hispanic family that has just moved and I believe that the movie/miniseries is named after the street that they now live on. There is a divorced alcoholic mother and her 3-4 childre. The oldest daughter is in the bad crowd and is generally a bad girl. The next oldest daughter is basically the caretaker of the family, ie cooking cleaning and caring for her younger siblings. The older daughter ends up meeting this guy whom she starts to fall for untill the mother finds out. the mother confronts the boy's father who happens to be her ex-husband making the boy the daughters half brother. The two are crushed when they find out. I remember one scene where the mother is in a bad mood and tries to take it out on the second daughter, when the older sister walks in and sees what is happening she pins her mother against the wall and tells her that if she ever touches her sister again she would kill her, saying that she had no right to even touch the girl because she was the one who cared for the familys needs. at the end of the movie the oldest daughter is walking down the street(I believe after deciding to turn her life around for the better) and is caught in the crossfire of two rival "ganges" and is shot and killed. I remember the movie very well but I just cannot remember it's name or the name of any of the actors. Please help me!!!

Do you remember the names of any of the actors appearing in the show? If you do, you can look up the name on the site imdb.com (internet movie database), and that might help you find the name of the show.

If you cannot find it, a similar theme can be found in the 2003 Holly Hunter vehicle, "thirteen".

you know I was trying so hard to remember some of the names and they were all dead ends, like I thought the half brother was maybe the guy that played balthasar in the romeo and juliet with leo dicaprio but that was a dead end... I had a few more thoughts but still nothing...I did check out thirteen and thats not it. I can literally run through the whole movie in my mind but it's a tip of the tongue kind of thing that has been there for years...

I took some of the words you mentioned and did a search on imdb. I came up with a TV series called "South Central." Does that title ring a bell for you? (There's also a movie by the same name, but it doesn't match your description so well as the series.)

it's not south central tho it does sound a lot like it. The family in south central is african american but the show i am looking for is about a hispanic family. I am still searching and trying to find it but still no luck. I am determined lol!!!
