Let's all hope that the teams decide the winner, and there are no controversial plays. Rangers/Yankees should be a great series. I don't think the Giants match up to the Phillies even close. Plus, I'm one of those Dodger fan/Giant haters. smile

Texas will have to perform better at home to have any chance against the Yankees, the smart money is on a Phillies-Yankees re-match from last year.

Go back to the previous series against the Yankees here in Texas...can you say "sweep"?

The Rangers can beat the Yankees this year; they have the power to do so. The season series was 4-4.

Can you say "The regular season meetings don't matter anymore"? October baseball is a different game. The Yankees know this all too well, and the Rangers have yet to win at home. Yes, the Rangers swept the Yankees the last time they played in Texas, but how long ago was that?

That's what they said about the Twins. lol

Good luck Rangers. Lee won't be there to win this one for you.

If the Yanks do win their (10+ over 2nd place record) 41st pennant...I'll root for the Phillies or the Giants.

Quote:

There's really no need for October baseball...as soon as the season is over, crown the Yankees champs. Scrap the postseason...there's no point in playing up to 19 games extra.

It's beyond time for a salary cap...then the Yankees will only have four players. Take the salaries across all 30 teams and average it...that's the cap. At $90M (average salaries across all MLB), the Yankees will have Jeter, Sabathia, Pettitte, and A-Rod...that's it as they will have overspent at that point!

Like I said to another member here who thinks it's all about the money: One title since 2000. That is why they play the game in October. But, I'll be honest. I do love when people like yourself bring up the money and how that equates championships. That is ignorance at its best right there. But, hey, it isn't me with that mindset. Even the lowly Pirates can win a series against the Yankees if they are playing well at the moment. That's the key. If your team is playing well, they can beat anybody. Money matters not in October. It might in April through September, but not in October.

But, when the team goes 2-18 with RISP, you aren't going to win in October. Simple as that. The Yanks pitched well when the Twins has runners on base and that's all it took really. We'll see if they can continue that against the Rangers, but I hope not. smile

I heard some people on the tv and radio saying that this was the Twins' year to finally beat the Yankees.

This is a fact: At $90M (average salaries across all MLB), the Yankees will have Jeter, Sabathia, Pettitte, and A-Rod...that's it as they will have overspent at that point!

As is this: (10+ over 2nd place record - it's actually 25!) 41st pennant.

Go Rangers! Beat the Yankees!

Fact:

Since 1969, they only have 11 pennants, only 5 more than Oakland.

Still more than twice 2nd place...and it's still time for a salary cap.

From 1982 through 1994 were great years...as was 2008...the Yanks watched all the playoffs at home! grin grin

Yes, it's still more than twice second place, but you ignore the obvious truth that since the expansion era started, the Yankees' dominance has not been as great as it was in the old days.

EDIT: Yeah, 1994 was a great year. That was the year that MLB almost went under. *rolls eyes*

Yankees are not as strong this year, their starting pitching has been very suspect the last month or so and it has showed in the first two games with Texas. They pulled the first one out but couldn't come back again tonight. Yankees best hope is to get to the Texas bullpen, they are very vulnerable there.

Also, what a shock - Giants beating Haliday and taking 1-0 lead in games!
