Four of the 16 games were upsets: three games were solo picks, and one game was picked by two for a total of 5 bonus points this week .. and of the remaining 12 games trev1 picked 11 of them for a weekly win! He also received a bonus pt for reaching double figures.
Last week trev1 was 9 pts behind Howie72 .. this week he's 2 pts in arrears as Howie72 scored a wooden spoon. N-Bomb collected back-
to-back spoons, and paper_aero collected his first for the season.
Some of us have already lost an advance pick, or two (see the post above this one for complete list of advance picks for quarter-finals and semi-finals) .. we usually lose an advance pick in the next round, and the one after it!- Fulham beat Spurs, which means 15 of us have lost an advance pick for the quarter-finals (BxBarracuda and srini701 were the two who didn't pick Spurs) .. and 8 of us lost a semi-finalist.
- Swansea City lost at home to Leyton Orient .. 5 players lost a quarter-finalist: illiniman14, LeoDaVinci, ozzz2002, PaulE and Sypher (LeoDaVinci also lost a semi-finalist).
- Three players lost a quarter-finalist when Wolves lost at home to Stoke: BxBarracuda, dg_dave and FussBudget (dg_dave and FussBudget also lost a semi-finalist).

By delaying replays from the previous round until the same day as the 5th Round, The FA have ensured this round of the FA Cup has dragged on for almost two weeks.
Best picks were 9/16 by Sypher, and he stays where he is in 9th place.
There were four wooden spooners and each of them fell down the ladder .. three of them achieved a new low-water mark for the season (ozzz2002 was the odd one out, as he'd been climbing up from his last place position back in the 2nd Round) .. triviapaul, illiniman14 and dg_dave also achieved new low water marks.
Moving in the other direction were BxBarracuda, gtho4 and KrivoyRog; all of them are now at their highest positions for the season.
LeoDaVinci and paper_aero score their first bonus pts for the season, leaving FussBudget as the only player without a bonus point.
Howie72 is still our leader, and he's still 2 pts in front. There are three rounds left: quarter-finals, semi-finals and FA Cup Final for a maximum possible of 48 pts .. which cannot be achieved as we've all lost two or more of our advance picks (see next post).
The next round is on Saturday week .. they are no sides of that fixture list with two team-names this time, as all replays have been decided.

Three players have no weekly wins & no wooden spoons: BxBarracuda, dg_dave and LeoDavinci .. and one of them is just a point behind the leaders! Everyone has now scored a bonus point, except for FussBudget.
There are two rounds remaining which, at 16 pts each round, leaves a maximum of 32 pts still up for grabs. However, no-one can score 32 pts as no-one has hit pay dirt with their advance picks for the semi-finals and the final. We all have 1 or 2 correct with our four advance picks for the semis, and just two players 3 live picks for the final: N-Bomb and LeoDaVinci.

We have a new leader .. triviapaul scores 9/16 for a weekly win, and jumps up into 1st place (which is where he was back in Round 3a). He also scored a bonus point for a solo pick - Stoke City to lead at half-time. Three players chose Stoke to lead at full-time but, curiously, triviapaul wasn't one of them.
The other weekly winner was FussBudget, his first for the season.
Howie72 falls to 2nd place, a new *low-water mark* for the season! KrivoyRog jumps up into 3rd place, which is a new high for the season .. and no-one from 1st to 12th retained their spot from the previous round.
Stoke City will be playing in their first ever FA Cup Final. They were a foundation member of the Football League in 1888 and, before this weekend, the furtherest they had progressed in the FA Cup over the last 123 odd years was three semi-final appearances:
1899 : lost 1-3 to Derby County
1971 : lost 0-2 to Arsenal after a replay (2-2)
1972 : lost 1-2 to Arsenal after a replay (1-1)
Manchester City have played in seven FA Cup Finals (their last was in 1981) and won it three times (their last win was in 1956).
Although there are another 16 pts for the final round of the tipping comp, no-one can score 16 pts as no-one can hit pay dirt with their three advance picks (which are 10 of the 16 pts). Only two players have a live pick for the winner: FussBudget (Stoke City) and KrivoyRog (Manch City). One of them will score 8/10 with their advance picks, and the other will score 6/10.
LeoDaVinci will score 3/10, the nine of us who picked Manch Utd to win will score 2/10 (losing semi-finalist), and the five who picked Arsenal to win will score 1/10 (losing semi-finalist). That adds up to 16 players .. the odd man out is dg_dave, who failed with all three advance picks.
A summary of the advance picks for the final are in the post below this one. The final will be played on Saturday 14th May, before the end of the season, on the same day there are FAPL games! The FA Cup Final has always been the last game of the season. However, it is unavailable this year, as Wembley has been chosen by UEFA to host the final of the Champions League.

Where'd he come from? First and second collected a wooden spoon each and KrivoyRog picked the winner with his advance pick .. he scored 10/16 for a weekly win to come out of nowhere to win this! He was 13th after two rounds, and at the half way mark of the season was mid-table 12 pts behind the leader. He also collected 3 bonus pts but didn't need them, as he finished 5 pts clear of second place.
Howie72 was leader all the way through to the 2nd last round, when he dropped to 2nd. A wooden spoon in the last round saw him drop out of contention and off the podium for the one and only time.
Despite his wooden spoon, triviapaul (last week's leader) had enough pts on the board to stay on the podium, to dead-heat with BxBarracuda for second place .. triviapaul won silver on a countback. BxBarracuda won bronze without a weekly win, not one .. and this is his first ever silver medal in any comp! His previous podiums were bronze in NCAA Football and bronze in Twenty20 cricket.
LeoDaVinci was the other weekly winner, his first for the season .. he was a perfect
6/6 with the 3 picks HT-FT-FG and scored 4/10 with the 3 advance picks. Five players picked a perfect 6/6: BxBarracuda, LeoDaVinci, paper_aero, George95 and PaulE.
All of us scored points with our three advance picks .. the odd man out was dg_dave, who failed with all three advance picks. KrivoyRog was the only one who picked the winner.
LeoDaVinci climbed to 5th place, his highest for the season, ditto FussBudget .. he climbed to 10th place, his new high for the season (and KrivoyRog was the 3rd player to finish at his high point). FussBudget collected 2 bonus pts, which neatly completes that column of the table.
Three finished on a high, and three finished at a new low: Howie72, illiniman14 and dg_dave. That's six players who moved up or down .. and to that number add the rest of us. No one retained their position from the 2nd last week to the final round, except for two players .. PaulE and trev1 .. two out of 17! The stewards have dismissed all protests re pushing, shoving, flying elbows or high knees.

George95 avoided the comp's wooden spoon .. he left ozzz2002 and dg_dave behind to do battle .. and ozzz2002 also avoided it, but only just, to allow dg_dave to collect the honours.
After a gap of 45 years, Manchester City have won the FA Cup. Today was their 8th final appearance (their last was in 1981) and their 4th win (their last was in 1956) .. for Stoke City it was their first ever FA Cup Final. They were a foundation member of the Football League in 1888 and, until today's appearance in the cup final, the furtherest they had progressed in the FA Cup over the last 123 odd years was three semi-final appearances some 70 years apart: in 1899, 1971 and 1972.
This was the 9th edition of the FA Cup tipping competition. The defending title-holder was srini701 .. he also won it the year before to become the only player to retain their title, and the second player to win this twice (halfbakedangi won this in 2004 & 2006).
Thank you to everyone who participated, and congratulations to the 3 medallists! All of us will now have a well-earned rest until the first half of November, when we start this whole process all over again with the 10th edition.

I still had more correct tips than ozzz and George95 though, since they had six and five BP, respectively, and I had only one.
And the point differential was larger in this one...-5 to +5.
