In a new TV ad for Planter's Peanuts, that advertising icon, Mr. Peanut, will speak for the first time in his 94 years. It's a stop-motion ad and Robert Downey, Jr. will voice him. You can see it on YouTube.com, but it should be on prime time soon. Mr. Peanut was created by schoolboy Antonio Gentile for a contest for the Planter's logo. (And I bet he did the first "monocle smile"!)

I'm hoping it will go back to the way the Pink Panther is...mute. It seems so much more like the norm. Granted, the Pink Panther spoke in two cartoons (Sink Pink and Pink Ice), but there were 122 others where he did not.

I saw the commercial last night on TV and, sadly, I guess I never paid any attention before about him not talking because it just didn't seem all that strange. Even hubby didn't notice.
