I'm writing a series of quizzes about Best Motion Picture Oscar winning movies. In the II section I'll give a brief precis of the movie and then the Oscars the movie won and was nominated for. My questions are..

1)Should I only list the major awards a movie won (i.e. Actor, Actress, Director, Picture and Screenplay) or should I list them all as the quizzes are essentially Oscar based rather than about the movie itself? Does anyone really worry about who got the Oscar for Best Makeup, Editing etc on a movie?

I could say "Movie X won 8 Oscars including Best Picture and Director (Joe Bloggs), and 6 others. It was also nominated for 3 more Oscars". Or I could list them all.

2) If I list them all should I include the names of the winners for editing, makeup, costume, etc etc etc? If I do the II is going to be very long for some movies...

I'm not currently a Movies editor, but I was about eight years ago.

I think this question can actually be looked at as guidelines for information sections "in general" over all the categories.

The information section should provide information about the topic of the question that will engage a player's interest. In this case there's no rule saying that you MAY NOT provide information about every award a movie has won and who, specifically, won it... but I think this will lead to information sections that are (as you said) overly long and maybe quite dry.

I would suggest that if an award is a special achievement in some way (an actor's first award, or first nomination for an Oscar) that would be interesting to include. Or likewise, if a movie is (for example) the first of its genre to receive an award for Best Such-and-Such.

You may pick and choose the information that you want to reveal in your information section, as long as it is accurate (and, for some quizzes, not misleading). How do you want your quiz to be presented?

Hi LadyCaitiona and thanks for your input. The quizzes are anagrams quizzes in which I give a couple of clues to the movie and then the anagram. The answers are all Best Motion Picture Oscar winners. For some movies the other Oscars awarded maybe interesting e.g the only acting Oscar Clark Gable won or the first movie to win the Oscar that was directed by a woman, but my dilemma lies in what people doing the quizzes find interesting. I'm not really interested in who won "Best Tea Trolley on set" or "Best First Aid Kit" but others may be hence my question. On the flip side, if a movie was nominated for 12 Oscars and only won 2 I'd be interested in what the other nominations were but I could look them up independently if I was interested. I'm aiming for thorough without being tedious

The only advice I can give there is to write what you think is interesting... chances are, others will too. You won't be able to write a quiz that pleases everyone, so try to write one that you are pleased to be the author of.

Thanks again LadyCaitriona I realised a long time ago that I can't please everyone I'll write the quiz with the II I would find interesting to a certain point and see how it goes. Cheers, Tizzabelle
