Hubby bought me a new laptop computer for my birthday and set up the sign-in screen with a password to allow me entrance. Since I am the only one who gets on this laptop, how do I get rid of having to sign in and allow the computer to just start up to the main screen? He changed his awhile aback, and now for the life of us, we can't figure out how he did it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you're on Vista, go to Control Panel -> User Accounts. And then that screen has the option to Change Your Password or Remove Your Password among other things. If you're on Windows 7, it would still be Control Panel, and I imagine the rest of the steps would be similar but can't say for sure because I've never used Windows 7.

If you're not on Windows, I have no idea smile

I have a laptop. I'm the only one that uses it. And I still have the sign-in screen because it's the one thing between a burglar and all my stuff.

I've never turned the UAC off. I've a fairly expert user and I am quite good with computer security... but Vista's UAC saved me from an MSN Messenger virus that masqueraded as a JPG file so I left it switched on. I'd rather be irritated occasionally than get a virus.

I know it's a good idea to have a password, but I'm not really concerned about a burglar taking my computer. It's a long story, but if someone really wanted it, they'd have to get by ClaraSue first and that's no easy feat. (For those not in the know, ClaraSue is my dog, part Shar-pei and part Pit Bull). grin

Thanks, gg, that did it! cool I don't know why I couldn't figure that out, but it just stumped me.
