Please preserve my sanity (too late maybe?)
My " and @ key functions are reversed. Yes I did change the language option in the control panel under regional and language from US to UK English and it still is wrong. I have Win XP. What else can I do ?? Thanks

If you have an old keyboard around somewhere or a friend's extra one, try swapping that component out first. It's the easiest step to take, just unplug and plug in again with the replacement. After that it is a software (or OS) problem.

Edit: Dumb me. There is a step you should take possibly even before that one. I had my MS Fonts manual sitting in front of me and wondered if there was a proximity of ASCII code that might have slipped a digit and wham, it hit me. Try changing your font setting in a word processing program and see if that impacts the situation. If not, then go to the keyboard switch.

Be sure everything is off before doing any plug/unplugging.

It will be a language setting I think. Here's one that might have been missed:

Go to: 'Control Panel > Regional and Language Settings'. Click on the 'Languages' tab then click on the 'Details' button. Make sure the Default Input Language is set to 'English (United Kingdom)'.

Edit: You may need to restart the computer for the change to take effect.
