SMH .. Hangover cures

Just thought this might come in handy for some today/tomorrow!

What is your cure?

I'm afraid age and circumstance have caught up with me and I barely drink anymore but in the day I usually went for the big greasy feed and sleeping lots. laugh

The 'nowadays' cure is very effective: don't indulge overmuch ...

Back in the dim and distant past ... I bore with the dicky tum and treated the head with a couple of paracetemol. Unfortunately I was never able to sleep it off, I just couldn't stay asleep as I was usually antsy and kind of 'wired' when suffering late night/morning after syndrome grin

When they say women should have three drinks over a three hour period - I trust they mean three DIFFERENT drinks - eg bottle of wine, double rum and finish off with a treble brandy!

I dont need one nowadays. I always used to take a couple of paracetamols or something before going to bed. I shudder when I think of hangovers I have known.

Drink a 32oz bottle of Gatorade before going to sleep. Rarely, if ever, would I have a hangover the next day. Don't usually need it nowadays though.

I found guzzling a litre of water before bed helped. Even if it just helped to 'clear' stomach contents so no more alcohol is absorbed through the lining of the stomach! grin

Gee, that's not going to help our critical water shortage if all the drunks in WA take your advice, Lones! We're supposed to be saving water! (Just kidding) Was that your noisy party I heard last night? laugh

An unpleasant one which no one does voluntarily, but which is really effective - sweat it out. Hard physical labour. If you are up at seven, toting that barge and lifting that bale, your hangover will be entirely gone by the time your fellow partiers are gingerly thinking about getting out of bed.

The best way to avoid a hangover is to stay drunk smile

Have you noticed you only get a hang-over when you stop drinking. Just keep drinking. smile

Sorry MG, that wasn't us the other night smile

We had an early one as the visitors we did have left early to get some sleep to recover from a sleepless night the previous night because they were in hospital expecting a baby that decided after 13 hours into labour that it didn't really want to come out after all. Hopefully my new niece or nephew will be born soon and put my sister-in-law out of her pregnancy misery frown

"We had an early one as the visitors we did have left early to get some sleep..."

It is rare for us to attend New Years' Eve parties - we don't like going out when all the drunks are out on the roads. We usually only go to a NYE party if it's in the neighbourhood and we can walk to it.

However, on January 1, we host a New Year's Day Breakfast and invite friends over. If they come between 8.00 am to 11.30 am, they get breakfast (choice of pancakes, bacon, eggs, sausages, fruit salad, raisin toast, regular toast, cereal, champagne, coffee, tea, juice etc.). If they come after 11.30, we just have drinks and nibblies. There's also the pool to swim in if it's hot, which it usually is.

It's very casual but all our friends and neighbours seem to love it. It is a great alternative to NYE parties, especially for people who have children, or elderly friends and relatives.

MG, that sounds much nicer than a NYE party full of drunken yobbos - something that our suburb is definitely not short of!

Here's one I discovered about 30 years ago (the last time I had a hangover!)

Put on a parachute, get on a plane, fly up a few thousand feet and jump out. By the time your 'chute's open, your hangover is gone. I think it's the adrenalin, so a bungee jump will probably work just as well.

On the other hand, you could just give up drinking - or at least, drinking too much!

A family I know always had a barbie on Jan 1st so they could all get together as a family. That sounds like a great idea. I think you could open up a drive-by or walk-by service for all those struggling home after a big night and rake in the cash wink

When I was young and even more foolish, we used to drag ourselves off to the squash courts and would be ready for round 2 drinking after a couple of games. Where did we find the energy?
