I've always wanted to organize a book club (closest I came was at the blood donor clinic, however, with people's schedules and all it never seemed to work out correctly), so, here in the virtual world, I think we can give it a go.

I propose that we have a book to read, give it two weeks to read it, and we have two weeks for discussion (so that all the slow-readers can catch up). Does that seem like a reasonable time frame?

I'll be picking the first book, I have a good one in mind that I've always wanted to read but I've put off for a while, and, after that, people can PM me with proposals for books they'd like to see discussed. I don't think we have to stick to any particular genre, however, if you all feel differently, we can narrow down the field.

I'll try and moderate the questions so that we have a general path upon which we can follow, but anyone can feel free to take the discussion anywhere.

What do y'all think?

Eeeek! Leo, really? That's the first one on the docket? Yikes. I had to read it once in High School and I think I was in my mid-thirties before I managed to get through it.

Never mind me, though ~ I always felt horrible criticizing it so boundlessly since almost everybody else in class seemed to love it to pieces. Ergo? I'll look forward to reading comments on the thread here as you all progress. I'm sure I'll learn what it was I missed the first time, reading this .

One of my all time favourites. I really love it , Leo. Wow!

I remember the first time I read that, at about age 15. My mom, not really one for the classics, said "Why are you reading that old thing?" "It's really funny." "Funny because of all their odd oldfashioned ideas?" "Um, no. Humourous". I think she believed humour in literature was invented in about 1930.

It's an extreme departure from the books I usually read, and I've always wanted to give Jane Austen a go. I figure it is also a book that many people can get a hold of, and it would be a good selection to start discussions about. Don't worry, I have a few other ones I've been thinking of that are equally as good reads and I'm sure will appeal to other people.

Always meant to read it, never got round to it. So from my side I'm happy with the choice - got the book off the shelf and started reading last night (such a nerd )

I pick up my copy tonight from the library.

I've nearly finished. I'll try and post some questions over the weekend to kick-start the thought processes, but, feel free to discuss whatever comes to mind come Monday.

On Monday, while we still have a week to keep discussing P&P, I'd like to post the second book on our list for people who'd like to get a head start. If anybody has any suggestions, PM me, and, if not, I have a few ideas in my head.

Oh wow I can't believe I missed out on this. I've always wanted to join a book club. Probably won't have time until after finals but I'll keep an eye out what's going on here and jump in when life gives me a bit of breathing room.
