After a hiatus of one year, the Nascar tipping comp returns. These are the details for this year's comp: - There are 36 races; the first race is the Daytona 500 on February 20th. The last race is at Homestead on November 20th.
- We pick names for our teams in this competition and the team names can be up to 17 characters, including spaces.
- We will be picking 6 drivers this year. We will choose 4 of those 6 to be our starting lineup each week and the other 2 will be our alternates. Each week, weeks 1 - 36, we can pick a different starting 4 out of our 6 drivers.
- Adjusted slip-streaming rule - whoever's leading after the 10th week can’t change their starting lineup every week. For weeks 11 -26 the leader can only change their starting lineup on even numbered weeks. During the Chase, weeks 27 - 36, the leader can only change their starting lineup on Transfer Window weeks, for the leader this will be weeks 27, 29, 31. For the last 4 weeks of the season the leader will have the option of using a Transfer Window in either, but not both, of weeks 33 and 34, and the option to use a Transfer Window in either, but not both, of weeks 35 and 36. For the last 4 weeks, weeks 33-36, the leader can only change their starting lineup on the weeks they use their Transfer Windows.
- Point Scoring - we receive points for the first 3 of the 4 drivers from our starting lineup to cross the finish line (aka our 4th placed driver is ignored) i.e. we score points for 3 drivers, but we have a "reserve" or 4th driver in our starting lineup.
- The points we receive are the exact same points awarded by NASCAR for a race.
- Default will be the 4 drivers from your team that were in your lineup in the previous week.
- Deadline: Will always be midnight Friday FT time. There's a grace period of 3 or 4 hours, but please don't push your luck past that! Late starters can join by posting their team before midnight on any Friday, and they're in for the next race + all subsequent races. They come in at the rear of the field, on equal points with last.
Drivers & Transfer Windows: Since we will be using alternates this year, we won't have transfer windows to switch drivers every week. There will be 11 transfer windows during the season this year. We will start out with transfer windows every 5 - 6 weeks. The Chase begins week 27, at which point we will have transfer windows every other week, until the last 4 races, when we will have transfer windows every week.
The Transfer Window weeks will be weeks 5, 10, 16, 22, 27, 29, 31, 33, 34, 35 and 36. Picking the 6 drivers for your team: New rule for this year in regards to the 12 drivers that made the Chase last year. Below is a listing of the 12 drivers and the points they finished behind champion Jimmie Johnson in the final standings. There will be a maximum of 3 drivers from last year’s Chase cup allowed on any team. There are no restrictions for tippers picking 0 or 1 Chase cup driver for their team. If you are picking 2 Chase cup drivers for your team their combined Points Back must equal 445 points or more. If you pick 3 drivers from last year’s Chase cup their total Points Back must be 900 or more.
Last year's standings: Position Points Back 1 Jimmie Johnson 0 2 Denny Hamlin 39 3 Kevin Harvick 41 4 Carl Edwards 229 5 Matt Kenseth 328 6 Greg Biffle 375 7 Tony Stewart 401 8 Kyle Busch 440 9 Jeff Gordon 446 10 Clint Bowyer 467 11 Kurt Busch 480 12 Jeff Burton 589
For example you *cannot* pick both Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Busch as your 2 drivers from the chase cup because their Johnson's Points Back is 0 and Busch's Points Back are 440, thus being under the minimum for 2 drivers of 445, but you could pick Jimmie Johnson, 0 Points Back and Jeff Gordon, 446 Points Back, for your team. Blocking: The Blocking Rule will not be in effect for the first 10 races of the season, due to everyone being more bunched up early in the season. The Blocking rule will be in effect from Week 11 though the final race, Week 36. The blocking rule only counts for the 4 drivers you chose to put in as your starting lineup for that week, 2 people within 5 spots of each other can have the same 6 drivers for their team. Adjusted Blocking rule: You cannot change your team so that it matches someone within 5 places behind you in the standings. - If you have the same team as someone else: if you take the plunge and change a driver, any team within 5 spots in front of you cannot change their team to match yours. If they do, it's an invalid choice, and they keep their original team. - If your team is different: the blocking rule applies even if your team is different from a team below you, e.g. if you change your team and it now matches someone who's within 5 spots below you, it's an invalid choice.
EXAMPLES: whoever's running second last can change their team to whatever they want, as long as it doesn't match the tailender's. Whoever's running first cannot change their team to match anyone in spots 2 through 6. N.B. this new rule will not operate in reverse. e.g. a player can change his team to match a player in front of him or her (don’t know why you would, but you can!) Tie-breaker: in the unlikely event that two or more tipsters finish on equal points at the end of the comp, weekly wins/wooden spoons will be used as a tie breaker e.g. there's a triple dead-heat for 1st place -- player A has 14 weekly wins and 8 wooden spoons (+6) -- player B has 7 weekly wins and no spoons (+7) -- player C has 11 weekly wins and 4 wooden spoons (+7). The podium positions are C-B-A on a count back. Final Note: While we are picking drivers for our teams, we are actually picking the car number the drivers are driving. If a driver has to leave the race before it's finished for whatever reason and someone else gets in their car to finish the race, anyone who picked the original driver of the car gets full points for where that car number finished. If Jimmie Johnson, who drives the #48 car, can't start the race or leaves the race in the middle for whatever reason and Jeff Gordon gets into the #48 car, the people who have Jimmie Johnson in their starting lineup get the points for where the #48 car, with Jeff Gordon driving, finishes, not those that picked Jeff Gordon. LeoDaVinci is the defending titleholder; he won the 2009 comp. This year's comp is the 7th running of a Nascar comp; Sypher is the only player to have won this twice (and no-one has retained their title). Previous winners: 2001 CarolinaCarol Pling gtho4 2005 Sypher ElfTwinkle silverginger 2006 Howie72 doomed ElfTwinkle 2007 doomed racegirl5 ElfTwinkle 2008 Sypher ElfTwinkle paper_aero 2009 LeoDaVinci Howie72 srini701 Anyone interested in relieving LeoDaVinci of his title, please join the queue .. oops, wrong story line .. please choose a team name and sign in! NASCAR has instituted new rules for the scoring this year, so don't be surprised by the much lower scoring per driver this season.

I am in, and am sure that the Adjusted slip-streaming rule will not affect me, as it is doubtful that I will ever be in the lead. My team is called 'Holden Power' and as soon as I can find a Holden driver in the field, I will make my selections...

| x The huge crash on lap 29 set the tone for this race and took a lot of big names out of contention for the win. Names like Johnson, Gordon, Waltrip, who started the chain reaction crash, Biffle, Martin and Kenseth were involved in the lap 29 crash. There was also another wild finish for the Daytona 500, though no one crossed the line on their hood this year. The biggest late game changer being the lap 195, of 200, crash which began with Regan Smith and involved the two cars which led the most laps all day Clint Bowyer and Ryan Newman, they both dropped from the top 5 to around 20th place. Bowyer finished all 208 laps but Newman was only able to complete 206. Off that caution they reached the 500 mile mark, which left it up to 3 tries for a green/white/checkered finish, which would be 2 laps. The first attempt led to another crash and leader David Ragan being black flagged for his actions during the restart. In his second ever race rookie Trevor Bayne started the second green/white/checkered with the lead and questions on how much fuel the leaders would have left. 20 years and one day old Trevor Bayne held on to win the 2011 Daytona 500. He is the youngest ever winner of the Daytona 500.
Fords took the top 3 spots, though the the GT-HO Phase Fours only had number 2 finisher Carl Edwards on their team. No one had winner Trevor Bayne or third place finisher David Gilliland on their squads.
Ozzz2002 led Holden Power to the HoF this week with 107 points. Other teams scoring over 100 points this week are Nighmare's Fords are Frauds with 104 points and George95's George's Guys with 103. Howie72 drew the first wooden spoon of the year with 72 this week.
We start the season 11 strong, with 9 of us having Kyle Busch on our starting team and Jamie McMurray is on 8 of our starting teams.
Phoenix is up next week. x
