Stalin is described as having a broad Georgian accent. Was this the equivelant to a Scottish, American or Australian accent to english speakers or was it broader? I cannot understand some Scottish people and I am wondering if he had that problem with some Russians.

It would be the accent of a non-native speaker - Stalin spoke Georgian until he went to school (aged 10) where he was forced to learn Russian. So a foreign accent, not a brogue or dialect.

I think you'll find, by the way, that Scots, Americans, and even Aussies, claim to be English speakers... but I agree, they do talk funny.

When Stalin spoke I think everyone nodded in agreement regardless of whether they understood him or not.

I'm Scottish and can't understand Scottish people half the time!

Mate I am Australian and some ockers from the bush can be hard to understand too. They are so laid back they are not used to opening their mouths too much.

i can't remember who it was but I saw an interview with an English actor. He was told that in order to sound like an Aussie you talk while keeping your teeth together. I tried it with an English mate of mine and it worked!

It also keeps the flies out.

It goes back to the difference between the digestive system of marsupials & placental mammals.
About the only animal in Australia that could deal with placental mammal droppings were flies so they had a plague of flies.

Since we introduced dung beetles, which eat and bury animal droppings, fly numbers have dropped dramatically.
