Last year we had 17 runners .. and this year 15 of us are back for another dose. No shows are brownie83 & KrivoyRog. The four who have joined us in this year's Madness are: George95, N-Bomb, rxbigdawg and toocool4u .. which gives us a field of 19 runners, an all-time record attendance for this comp! The previous record was 18 runners set 8 years ago .. in the 2nd edition of the MM comp back in 2003.

This is the 10th edition of the Madness tipping comp. The first 9 were run from 2002 to 2010 and produced 9 different winners. At the end of Day One we have the defending titleholder, illiniman14, bringing up the rear with ozzz2002.

Positions #1 through to #5 are occupied by players who have never won this .. jonnowales in position #6 is the highest placed previous-winner (he won gold back in 2009).

There were three upsets on Day One .. no-one picked the win by the 13th seed Morehead, ten of us picked the win by #11 seed Gonzaga, and 7 players had the hide to pick #12 Richmond to beat #5 Vanderbilt!

N-Bomb and LeoDaVinci both picked 13/16 .. both of them missed the win by Morehead, N-Bomb missed Wisconsin and Kansas State, and LeoDaVinci missed Temple and Richmond.

One player has already lost one of his picks for the final, and four players have lost a Final Four pick. That's 16 games out of the way .. there are 63 games in this Madness!

Put aside the leader and the tail-ender, only two players retained their position from Day One. Some of us fell in a heap like a rock off a cliff (LeoDaVinci and srini701), and some of us rocketed up the table.

Every game was picked by someone .. half the games were picked by everyone, or all bar one. The two rockets were kevinatilusa and illiniman14 with 14/16 .. they were at the bottom of the table yesterday; today they're running 2nd and 3rd! Both of them missed the win by VCU .. kevinatilusa missed the win by Michigan, and illininman14 missed Texas A&M.

Outrageous pick of the day belongs to BxBarracuda; was he facing east when he consulted his ouija board .. did he check the local tide tables to choose #11 VCU
.. what did he see in the prior results of these two teams that no-one else saw: #11 VCU easily beat #6 Georgetown

The loss by Georgetown sees another player lose a Final Four pick, to make it five players with 3 live FF picks left.

As was the case yesterday, put aside the leader and the tail-ender, only two players retained their position from Day Two. Today's rocket belongs to toocool4u .. he picked the entire card except for the upset win by #8 Butler against #1 Pittsburgh.

The loss by Pittsburgh sees three players lose their pick for the winner (Sarah606, srini701 and toocol4u), and another seven players lost a FF pick. We're now down to just 6 players with a complete set 4 live FF picks (and two players have just two live picks left).

N-Bomb continues to set a cracking pace out front .. his lead is now a mouth-watering 18 pts.

ozzz2002 is now officially out of contention .. even if all of his remaining 15 live picks are correct, he can't catch N-Bomb .. his mpt of 172 pts is less than the 176 pts N-Bomb has already accumulated.

There are 23 games left, and two players have 22 live picks!
