probably...but it's the only word I could make out of your blasted word...

Considering your word in most dictionaries is hypernated...

I challenge gtho4's entry 'DEVIATITIONIST' as it can not be found anywhere on Onelook.com

Sorry George

wow, I did a real good job at copy and paste and capitalise .. the darn word's not in there! the closest I can find is this:

Dictionary.com -includes definition (English), antonym, phonic pronunciation (indexed 27.01.2001)
deviationist

DEVIATIONIST
which is similar to what I've got in the game thread:-
DEVIATITIONIST

jw, I stuffed it up, my entry doesn't count, unless you can somehow work out what I've done, 'cause I can't! lol

Sypher, all I need now is for Leeds United to lose, and that'll finish off a great week, just dandy .. I'm going home mate, got the blue waggon today (do you still remember it?), might chuck a few wheelies on the way, then again maybe not ..

Hey Jabberwock...Could you please check my score? I don't think I should have a point for round 4, and I think I should have one for rounds 3 and 5 for a whopping total of 2 at this point. Thanks!

I challenge Mr.Yeti's entry of CHOICES - Isn't this a plural which is against the rules ?

'twas brillig

MrYeti has posted a plural, which condradicts the "no plurals" rule.
He will receive a point, since I love it when a new builder joins the game, and everyone gets a second chance around here, so try again on this PYRAWORD even, MrYeti.

My reasoning for no plurals was this.
It seemed to make it too easy, if a player could change one letter to make a new word, and then just tack an "S" on the end.
Does anyone disagree with that? I strove to make this game as rule-free as I could....perhaps we could drop that one...

I think your reasoning behind the "no plurals" rule is very sound Jabberwock. I say leave it as it stands.

yes, no plurals is fine ... probably helps if I actually READ the rules first

MATCH 3 (Apr.2001) is up and running.

I may amend the rules this month sometime.
my ideas:
1. Match ends after round 10 or the 2nd to last day of each month, whichever comes first.
2. players can start new rounds themselves. as soon as 24 hrs elapse, first one to post a new (their choice) 3 letter word, starts the round, and gets a point for that entry.

just thinking aloud here.
for now no changes (enough new around funtrivia these days as it is)

You made the right move Pling.
That is what a player should do if they challenge on the "base" word.
A player may also challenge any other entry in the PYRAWORD within 24 hrs of the word being posted. In that case, the word would stay, but no points would be awarded.
There were a number of words in match 2 that don't meet the rules i.e weren't in Onelook.com.

question- does everyone agree that Onelook is the best online source as a dictionary? It is a metasearch, which makes it fairly encompassing. Altho nothing seems as good as a hardcopy of an O.E.D -which only Sypher has that I know of. I looked at the price of a new one. gads! I don;t foresee owning one myself any time soon. =)
So anyone know of another online dictionary that would be even broader, with more words?

Sypher, out of curiousity, does the O.E.D have tradeable listed, or only tradable?

The OED only has 'Tradable' and not 'Tradeable'.....As for Onelook, it is a very good comprehensive site. The only thing it is lacking is more of the obselete words which can still be found in the OED, but I am not using them as they can't be found in Onelook....like the rules state !!

GGGRRR...!!

Why wasn't TRADEABLE accepted ? Sypher stated that it wasn't in the OED. I just looked in my Concise OED and I found TRADEABLE in there. Methinks you should look again. And I also found TRADEABLE by clicking on the link to Onelook. When I got to Onelook I typed in the word 'tradable' and then I clicked on the Mirriam-Webster link at the bottom of the page and the word TRADEABLE was there. I'd appreciate other peeps opinions. As for those he do not accept my word read my signature below.

Scott

I have tried to find your entry in Onelook...I cannot... but I am willing to be pointed in the right direction. I did as you said and typed in Trade and clicked on the Merriam-Wester entry for TRADE I must be blind I can't see tradeable.

here is a link to the place I found
http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=trade
