I have written a quiz on Mel Blanc and I am not sure if it should be put under Celebrities or Entertainment. I haven't been able to find another quiz on voice actors. It contains information on both his personal life and career. Any thoughts?

Great thank you very much. My questions are different than the ones in this quiz and I now have a category.

In reviewing the authoring guidelines for Television it would seem that my questions do not qualify. The particular guideline is that the questions must be answered by simply watching the show.

Since my questions deal with the life and career of Mel Blanc and the questions cannot be answered by watching a show does my quiz still belong in this category or should it be placed somewhere else?

I would guess Celebrities or People, but I guess an editor will know for sure!

If it is about the life and career of Mel Blanc, that would usually appear in celebrities. If there is not a subcategory in the A-C section for Blanc, Mel, than you should put it in the "B" section.


If it was more about his voice acting and more geared towards the entertainment industry, it would go in entertainment. But it sounds to me like you are writing a quiz about Mel Blanc himself; that is a celebs quiz.

Photo Quizzes are still only available for Editors as we're beta testing them and working out the kinks. While there is no date set for release to other authors yet, it'll probably be within the next few weeks.

We are about to start a team quiz to celebrate our team's first birthday.
The problem is, I'm not quite sure where it should go.
It will be called "Rock the Birthday Clock" and will be about what each member would like to get for his / her birthday e.g. I collect figurines of a certain animal, and you choose which animal to give me from the selection given.
I guess Hobbies for the overall category, but where should it go within the category please ?

I would have suggested General > Thematic and then choose according to the number of questions. This would allow maximum flexibility for players to develop their questions. Some gifts might not involve hobbies as such, but, as long as all the questions include the overriding theme of choosing a suitable present, it wouldn't matter what the details of the gift or the way it is suggested were. A Hobbies editor might have another opinion!

I'm planning a quiz on the use of animals in the logos of political parties (from a number of countries, over the last century), and am having trouble deciding whether it will fit in World (Flags & Symbols doesn't currently have anything like it, since it is not at a national level) or History (Specialized History?). Obviously, the exact focus of the questions and extra information will depend on which category it gets written for. Can any editors in those categories suggest whether they have any strong opinion as to the most appropriate destination? Thanks! If I hear nothing within a few days, I'll just start writing and see where the quiz wants to go as it develops.

Well I don't edit in either of those but I shall offer my opinion anyway lol. If I were writing that type of quiz (great idea, btw!) I would probably go for World -> Government, and then possibly further into Political Science & History if your questions take a historical slant.

I think Flags and Symbols would be more appropriate. Animals in themselves are symbols and have their own representative meaning and as it is the focus of the quiz rather than the political party of the past then that is the way I would be aiming.

I have written a quiz and have no idea where to put it. It's a 'guess the name of the cyclone' type quiz. But in order to figure out the name of the cyclone, I have made a comparison with the name of someone famous and given clues as to who they are. Does that make sense?

I have looked in World, History, Geography but can't find anything that it really suits. It doesn't fit into celebrities or people because the quiz is based around the cyclone and not the person.

Or does this quiz go into General - Thematic 10 Qs?

If the quiz is actually ABOUT cyclones (where they touched down, specific damage that they caused, dates and times) it might go in Sci/Tech > Environment > Weather. The name-sharing could just be an additional clue to help the player.

You might want to send crisw (Sci/Tech editor) a sample question to see if it's suitable for that category. Otherwise you may be correct that the only place it will fit would be General.

Incidentally, I love categorization questions that begin like this.

It helps sometimes if you're not sure where something ought to go, to use the search function on the main page to find similar quizzes. I couldn't find anything searching for "cyclones" but "tornadoes" helped me find the sub-category in Sci/Tech. I'm not sure I would have thought to look there otherwise.

There are also quizzes on this topic in History > Specialized History > Disasters. Are your cyclones particularly destructive ones?

The History > Diasters category will be a better fit if you want to discuss the damage done, etc.; the Science/Technology category would be better if you want to focus on the mechanics of the storms, how and why they formed and grew, etc. Since you say it's about guessing the name, my gut feeling is for the History category. You might have a look at what's already there in each subcategory to help you decide.

The Specialized History - Disasters sounds like i might be the go. I thought there was a category like that couldn't find it (I looked in World, Sci-Tech and History - but obviously didn't go far enough in History).

I'll try there and I'm sure the lovely editor there will let me know if it's suitable or should go into general instead.

It usually means we're in for a really unique and imaginative quiz.

Nope- as others have mentioned, it would be Specialized History - Disasters.

I am hoping so. I wanted to do something different, I just hope it works and the ideas don't clash too much. Fingers crossed!

Another team quiz.. and another category issue.
We want to do a quiz on our hobbies... which range from cattle breeding (me) to collecting books... where should it go ? Help please - there doewsn't seem to be a Mixed category for Hobbies !
