hmmm ... I've found that it is: Archilochos of Paros Am I right, Geek? to expand,
The First Hypertext Edition of The Dictionary of Phrase and Fable THE DICTIONARY OF PHRASE AND FABLE BY E. COBHAM BREWER FROM THE NEW AND ENLARGED EDITION OF 1894 http://www.bibliomania.com/Reference/PhraseAndFable/data/1103.html
Satire (2 syl.). Scaliger's derivation of this word from satyr is untenable. It is from satura (full of variety), satura lanx, a hotchpotch or olla podrida. As maxumus, optumus, etc., became maximus, optimus, so “satura” became satira. (See Dryden's Dedication prefixed to his Satires.) Father of satire. Archilochos of Paros (B.C. seventh century). Father of French satire. Mathurin Regnier (1573-1613). Father of Roman satire. Lucilius (B.C. 148-103).
“Lucilius was the man who, bravely bold, To Roman vices did the mirror hold; Protected humble goodness from reproach, Showed worth on foot, and rascals in a coach.” Dryden: Art of Poetry, c. ii.

Well, with all the evidence you've provided, I could hardly say you're wrong. Yikes! You really did your homework!

Ok, hopeless...it's Olympic time so here is a topical question for you to chase.... On the penultimate day of the Sydney Olympic torch run, one of the runners had previous Olympic experience as a Winter Olympian. What was the name of the former Winter Olympian that had been chosen to run and what runner # were they?.... Good luck hopeless task...

In response to zyverWing's Q... Who is Sharon Hallingdal? The answer is ....Sharon Hallingdal is the strolling Living Doll at Fairs, Parties and Conventions throughout the United States and Canada. Apparently "she has confounded audiences of all ages" with her routine as they are "fascinated by her hydraulic like motions, and delighted by the humorous situations that spontaneously arise when they find themselves interacting with a real-live robot!"......perhaps there will one day be an Olympic Event...
If this is correct, then I'm ready for the next one..if not well done Zy and good luck

hmmmmm .... karmaloupster. Your question was "On the penultimate day of the Sydney Olympic torch run, one of the runners had previous Olympic experience as a Winter Olympian. What was the name of the former Winter Olympian that had been chosen to run and what runner # were they?...." My answer was "Danielle McGrath, pairs iceskater who was at the 1992, 1994 and 1998 Winter Olympics with her partner Stephen Carr. She was runner 99-079." I think that she qualifies as a correct answer to your question, as a "runner with previous Olympic experience as a Winter Olympian". If you had someone specific in mind, such as Prince Albert of Monaco, then the question should have asked more specifically ------------------ _______________________________________ Sometimes I think you have to march right in and demand your rights, even if you don't know what your rights are, or who the person is you're talking to. The game would be Rock, Paper, Scissors. Both Avalanche and Toolbox are strategies where the player plays the same choice over and over again.' Avalanche is a play where the player plays Rock, Rock, Rock, Rock etc Toolbox is the same, but Scissors, Scissors, Scissors, Scissors etc The same play for Paper is "Confetti" LOL ....

Bad luck Hopeless....you had a fair stretch in the chair though..wtg..the answer is that ALL these US cities had bid unsuccessfully for the Summer Olympic Games, and whilst the other three had never finished in a higher category then "Incomplete"....San Francisco at least had finished in the "Runner - Up" category.....1956 Melbourne Olympics.... Ok fire away.. KL [This message has been edited by karmaloupster (edited 09-29-2000).]

Hopless Task...I have found two sets of lyrics to the Addams Family theme, one is the original and just in case, the second set of lyrics is for the new version of the show: The Original Addams Family Theme Lyrics: They're creepy and they're kookey. Mysterious and spookey. They're altogether together ookey. The Addams Family. The house is a museum. When people come to see'em. They really are a scre-am. The Addams Family. Neat Sweet Petite So get a witch's shawl on. A broomstick you can crawl on. We're going to pay a call on. The Addams Family. .....these are probably the ones you are looking for but in case you are after the "New Addams Family" theme lyrics, here they are:
Welcome to the Addams Family Howdaya do--the Addams Family Come in to the Addams Family Now--Cha cha cha, snap snap Wonderfully scary [Gomez] And pleasantly hairy [Fester] Delightfully? Very! [Morticia] It's the Addams Family Welcome to the Addams Family Go into the Addams Family Come into the Addams Family Now--Cha cha cha, snap, snap. If this info is not OK Hopeless Task then good luck, otherwise thanks and I'm ready for another....
