gt, how did you get my Drak Knight question about where the Joker dies? I was sure I was gonna bank 10 points off that one. Did you get a hold of a copy of the comic itself? Do tell..

GTHO4... I lay my browser down...u are unbelievable...you got my series q in near record time....now i don't believe that swag stuff for a minute..sure "when in doubt say 7", but u wouldn't sacrafice another q by just guessing I don't think anyway, but what do I know..so I'm guessing u cracked the fact that the numbers in the series were the only ones with 5 letters in their names...they were arranged alphabetically upwards...now what is an accountant doing thinking that far out of the square?..u better be careful, u will be blackballed soon...j/k of course, I am not an accounting-ist, some of my closest friends are accountants... well u don't want to be on the wrong side of the book-keepers right..lol There is no way I'm going to fall for the "get into a war of numbers" with an accountant?....I'm fairly masochistic but I'm not into suicicde..I'm not loking at those #'s, not a glimpse..wd on the series get and i'm putting down the pencil... BTW, is tomorrow the big "Harbour Calculator Party"?...i'll be looking out for youse..good luck...oh, you do not work for an outfit called the "Crimson Prudential Building Society"?...they were fairly aggressive acountants too i think...cya

Gtho..I've got a bad feeling about that 121 now..lol..going to have drag back my memory and go over it again..it made sense at the time..lol..didn't know where u had got the Queen's telegram # from originally, 13 odd thousand!!..lol..saw that u have got nearer to it when u amended the typo.. BTW, I am keen to put together a quiz for "Quizzyland" consisting of say 20 of the old stumpers that have made it to the pile...what do u think?..what does everyone think as it would have to be OK by people to use their q's...call something like "Shooterout's Greatest 20" or something...and have it authored by all the shootists...some of them deserve to see the light of day again...may even get some folk to come and check it out..never have too many players right?...I'm going to shoot off an email to Sage now running it by him... ok..cya at the calculator..lol oh, and those tax q's?..please have mercy..

now you know what the pencil sharpener was for 121 lol .. no worries with the stumpers, no objections at this end - you'll have to come up with three alternative answers to create a multiple choice question, as quiz takers (and the editors) don't like fill in the blanks unless the answer is absolutely clear or it's a true false type question .. hmm I got nearer to the # of telegrams .. I thought it was pretty well spot on, please don't tell me I need another pencil shar.. pe, welcome back, and btw where did you ever find that insect egg answer .. mate, I've been here there and everywhere on that one, sort of like the neighbour's dog chasing his tail lol jw, that sequence is very very interesting but I'm still it's 1.40am here, cya guys gt less chance of typos with only two keystrokes [This message has been edited by gtho4 (edited 09-05-2000).]

Jabberwok, I got this question from watching the show a couple of weeks ago. I'm quite sure the male rabbits name wasn't Bonzo.

It's good to be back gt. I've been trying to upgrade my m/c to NT and ended up destroying everything completely. Eventually had to get Windows 2000 and that went on first time. Got the insect egg by typing "largest insect egg" into Google and it was about 4th or 5th site down. http://www.ozbutterflies.com/safari.htm

pe, to protect the innocent I won't tell you what words I was punching into google on the insect question (der), and nice going on Q10 kl, I wake up to see two fantastic news items. Thanks mate. I check the lufc.co.uk web site, we scored in the 2nd half and lost 1-2, just dandy. On the telegrams question - what are you looking at? The 3,794 answer I posted was from the Queen's web, and looks pretty official, or are we goonna have two official web sites with two different answers. We'll move on to Q121 when the dead stumper pile is updated lol quote: In 1998, The Queen sent 3,794 congratulatory messages to centenarians (the eldest being 113) and 9,244 to Diamond Wedding celebrants (compared with 302 and 1,639 messages respectively in 1955). www.royal.gov.uk/faq/telegram.htm

hmm just noticed that my insect question was sitll in the list of stumpers. I had the answer as Malaysian stick insect Heteropteryx dilitata. Now karmaloupster posted 09-01-2000 12:11 AM: Q116.What insect produces the largest egg? Jabberwock - 08-24-2000 11:45 PM Answer: The Stick Insect Were there no points awarded then because Shootout VII was over? Should it be carried over into SO VIII, or did that answer get missed? BTW, their eggs can measure 1.3 cm in length (size of a peanut) oh, and I just made up that question about twhich number into the sequence..heh. Seemed like the flavor of the day, so...

KL had just posted "stick insect" and not Malaysian, so he didn't get credit for it. Now you have given the answer, what do I do?

Looks like my answer wasn't quite as good as we thought! 1.3cm must make the eyes water on that stick insect though. As for Leeds, well, what can I say. You can ask for soccer tips if you like but I would have predicted a draw for Leeds and a win for Sunderland. I just knew we wouldn't beat Man. City. Never mind, we should get six easy points from The Hammers

Oops. I forgot that you said these stumpers go to the pile on Thursday. I looked at it and thought it was dead already. I guess we give kl the points, and take some off me for being thick. I guess Malaysian is important in an answer. My bad

Gtho4..Re: the Queen's telegrams..of course you are correct, I'm too embarrassed to give my source and will plead temporary dementia when I posted without checking..I got the Q and answer from that bastion of fact.."who wants to listen yo an Obnoxious Git (re" millionaire")..I know, I know I had some pretty harsh words with myself about it...I apologise for not correcting this earlier but have been busier then a one armed bricklayer in Beirut...u get the points and I'll be lucky noy to be red carded for such insanity.. Sage, can u please award the extra points to Gtho and remove this abomination from the Stumpers...cheers.. To bad I can't arrange to have the Leeds result reversed, condolences...I fear you will ruing those ones in May... BTW, I am dreading the census q more and more..I have cleaned out my emails and lost the answer and maths I sent Sage...so I will have to get reacquanted with it then..all I know is that it made sense at the time...lol..apols in advance if I have the whole thing wrong but here is my rationale, without the actual #'s: I got the figures from the official site and then added up all the individual groups counted (ie, white males, white females, other nationalaties etc), when I took that away from the total it came to the same # as was posted for the official # posted for black slaves..therefore the official count total posted had included a number for black slaves which was equal to 3/5th's of the actual total of black slaves counted, so if the # officially posted for the census was say 6,000,000 and say 600,000 was posted as Black Slaves, then the actual # of black slaves should of been 1,000,000..so I then added the extra amount, in the #'s I have used here that woud be +400,000..add that to the posted # and it would be 6,400, 000....i'm hoping that this logic is correct but am ready to be shown it's not and sort of think it is inevitable on prior form....how did I get myself into a number crunching battle with an accounant?...pure madness.. And how did the big calculator splash go?..I was absolutely engrossed in the intricasies of Government Maternity Leave processes on Tues night at work and missed the all the news...seems that no one actually watches the news anymore, well not the people I asked anyway...hope it went well..well no doubt I'll be doing this again sometime real soon so I'll catcha the.. BTW..PE and GTHO4, where is Viduka at the moment?..injured?..can't remember seeing him since 1st round. KL

Sage if u go back and count u will see that I haven't posted too many answers or q's: 1. I have answered and posted 2 for the 7th Sep(a's to 21 and 28; q's 30 and 31) 2. Previous entry was posted with a time stamp of "posted 09-07-2000 12:08 AM" , but as the FT clock is out by 10 mins, that makes it 11:58 Pm 09-06-2000, which is my quota for 6th Sep (a's to S4 and 122..new q's 25 and 216) 3. The entries previous to taht were both posted on the 5th sep and are my 2 q's and a's for the 5th Sep (a's to S1 and 130, new q's 14 and 17).. I'm not sure how I could of trangressed the limits given that as I have stated on earlier posts the Fun Trivia clock is out by 10 minutes, making it 2 q's and 2 a's per day....no chance of having the clock amended?..it seems to be causing me grief having to go back and review etc...I'm pretty sure that my entries should stand Sage, hope so anyway.. KL - They will be listed for yesterday. Pleaase try to refrain from taking it to the wire. The FT clock is the only thing I have to go on for official time of posting. [This message has been edited by Sagebrush (edited 09-07-2000).]
