Are there things that some people do that get on your nerves, annoy you and/or drive you crazy?

Here are some of the all time annoyances:

People who let their children cry/misbehave in church, in restaurants, in theaters, etc. and do nothing to correct them.

People who use the letter 'O' instead of the number 'zero'.

People who never use adverbs. For example, "I took that personal" instead of "I took that personally"

Young salesclerks who call older customers by their first names.

People who talk loudly in movie theaters while the movie is playing.

People who allow their pets to run loose

These are the ones that come to mind. Do you have any to add?

My list is endless but my biggest one is mindless repetitive noise making like someone tapping a pen or similar. I'm getting grumpy in my old age!

I guess I am guilty of the second one of your pet hates, when giving a number I will tend to say 'O' rather than zero, it just rolls off the tongue better.

I hate the sound of a football (soccer) ball being kicked particularly when it is outside my window.

I hate people who park inconsiderately.

I don't like when people cut you off on a freeway moving at 60mph+ and then hitting their brakes, or when you're traveling at, say, 70mph in a marked 60mph or 65mph speed zone and someone is tailgating you and you can't see their license plates!

When people don't "pick up" after their dog does its' business in a public place.

Smokers who smoke right in front of the doors to a place I'm entering. Move away!

People who have no clue north/south, east/west. You'd be surprised. When I'm getting directions from someone (which I need to do a lot in my business) and I ask directions, people have no idea; all they know is left/right and sometimes can't even do that right!

I will certainly agree with:

People who let their children cry/misbehave in church, in restaurants, in theaters, etc. and do nothing to correct them.

People who talk loudly in movie theaters while the movie is playing.

I will add the following:

People who push past you to enter a lift/elevator without waiting for you to disembark first.

People who cough and sneeze in public without covering their mouths (and also parents who don’t teach their children to cover their mouths) – please keep your germs to yourself.

Drivers who don’t know how to merge and/or drivers who stop in the merge lane.

People who spit in the street - it's disgusting and unhygienic.

Smokers who discard their butts carelessly (i.e. drop them on the pavement or flick them out of their car instead of using an ashtray).

People who don’t switch off their mobile phones when appropriate – i.e. at the theatre, at a funeral etc. Nobody is that important that they need to be contactable every second of the day.

People who park in the handicapped parking places when they aren’t qualified to do so.

'People who have no clue north/south, east/west. You'd be surprised.'

Veering off topic but I have noticed that it seems a lot more common in American movies and what not to reference directions that it would be in Australia.

And just to make in on topic again .. I hate shop assistants that are chatting to friends on the phone instead of serving me AND even more I hate ones that have got earphones in.

People at a checkout who wait until all their shopping is packed before getting out their wallet or debit card and taking forever to find it. They know they have to pay so have it ready. (I've just got back from shopping in case you're wondering).

That reminds me - people who go through the express lane with more than the limit - I don't mind one or two items over the limit but some people go through with significantly more than they should. Makes you wonder whether they can't read or they can't count.

Another one I can add (and tie into this) is when the self checkout is the only thing open and you have way more than the limit to what you are supposed to have for those (limit is 10-15 items). I had 16 once, and even if someone else had 16 or 17, I'd be ok with it.

They just don't care. At the store I worked at the express lane was 1-16 items and people would come with HUGE cartloads and say "oh you can take me here". Well alright, not like I cared since I had to be standing there anyway but the line up of people with two items each that inevitably formed behind Mr. Careless Customer sure cared.

Oh that makes my blood boil! The sense of entitlement some people have is incredible. My best mate saw an 18 year old fit and healthy tennis coach repeatedly park in a disabled spot. She went to her sons' tennis coach and asked about the lad. She let him know that if he didn't say anything to the youngster she'd speak to the owner/boss of the tennis school. If it still happened she'd ring the police next time she saw it. The lad learnt to park a few of metres away in a regular spot. wink

Question is, what makes a healthy adult think they have the right to make someone else's life more difficult, especially when it's already more difficult than others?!

I'll add habitual unpunctuality. Everyone is late sometimes for various reasons but habitual tardiness that holds other people up says "My time is more important than yours so I can be late..."

Mothers who are too protective of their children. I hear stories all the time of how a mom is doing sueing or going to the media because their kid has done this or said that.

Customer service? Does that even exist?

From the other end of the stick, it annoys me that 'old' people think that because they are older than me have a right to push in front of me in line at the shop. Sorry but I've been waiting there just as long as everyone else, what makes them so special that they think they should go in front of someone who was waiting in line first? One 'old' lady said that it was to do with respect. That really got my goat. Respect should be earned, not a god-given right. Don't push in front of me and I will respect that you are older than me and if you are nice to me I might offer to let you go first because your older legs might not be quite up to the challenge of waiting in line for 20 mins. Just don't expect that you have a right to go in front of me. :|

I also hate that my husband doesn't rinse dishes when he has finished with them. Grrr. They are so much harder to clean with dried food on them.

I complained once to the security guard at the shopping centre because I needed the disabled bay for my disabled mother-in-law and an able-bodied person took it. It was a Sunday and the vast majority of the carpark was empty. The security guard shrugged his shoulders and said sorry but the shopping centre management wouldn't allow him to pursue it because they didn't want to alienate the able-bodied shoppers!

Another time, a young pregnant woman took the space and when I gave her a dirty look (I didn't say a word) she got all defensive and said "well, pregnancy is a handicap" and flounced off. I hope she remembers that if she ever truly does need one of those parking spots and someone unentitled has taken it.

My mother-in-law is 90 and truly disabled. Although we've got a disabled parking permit, we have NEVER been able to use it because there has ALWAYS been someone else parked in the disabled bay first - sometimes they display a permit, but often they don't.

Peop;e who are walking along on the pavement , their phone rings and they stop dead. I have now started walking straight into the back of them. I have had one or two successes with the offending object knocked to the ground. The feeling of euphoria is incredible.

I say the Oh because it's clearer on the phone than zero. When I worked the phones forty hours a week in Europe, I preferred it. My parents' number has four repeated numbers and then a zero, so we say Oh as well. It does not annoy me as much as the use of lite and nite.

Ren, you'd hate shopping in my area where they stop the shopping cart and they have a headphone on underneath their stylish little caps with ponytail sticking out, and they talk in the aisle and bother you.

I think it's putting dishes to dry on the counter when the counterspace is tiny, and there is a dishwasher directly under it to be filled....in fact, it's like it's saying, 'come on, why do you even have me?' If the counterspace were bigger, I could see putting it in a drainer, but noooooo.

I don't like it when people leave their phones on in the cinema/theatre either. Before nearly every theatre performance, there's a polite request to turn mobile phones off, but you can guarantee there will always be one left on.
But I totally agree with the fit and healthy people parking in the disabled/handicapped bays. With my limited mobility, Mum is allowed to park in disabled spaces with my sticker when I'm with her (which is most of the time). But we're usually very lucky if we manage to find a spare place, with the fit and healthy users abusing the spaces. And it's not only the disabled spaces, people abuse the parent and child spaces too, it's painfully obviously that their "child" isn't such a child ... or even worse, if they don't have a child at all with them.
Another frustration is when people "look" when they see me in a wheelchair. I don't "look" disabled, physically, but have difficulty walking long distances, so using a wheelchair is easier for short shopping trips. Sometimes I'm in pain with my back etc, so I do deserve the wheelchair laugh
OK, rant over! smilee

Along the lines of handicapped spaces and wheelchairs: last year when I had my leg in a cast for 18 weeks (a non-walking cast for 8 of those), I used crutches to get around. I was issued a sticker from the motor vehicle division during that time and I was frustrated to hardly ever find an available parking space. Most grocery stores will have wheelchairs or motorized scooters to help shoppers. Many times there weren't any available because people that were just overweight were using them. Do you have any idea how hard it is to use crutches and push a grocery cart? I ended up doing most of my grocery shopping at midnight when a scooter would be available.

Impatient people get my blood boiling. When I was in my cast I was coming out of the store crossing the lot when a young man honked his car horn at me! I stopped right in front of his car and asked "you honking at me?" totally astonished. He yelled at me to get out of the road. Wrong thing to do. I turned and hobbled up to the front of his car, blocking his way and asked again, "you're honking at me?" His female passenger was so embarrased she just about slid to the floor of the car. I just stood there in front of him at the front doors of the store as dozens of people were watching and applauded me when he finally apologized. It may be awhile before he does that again.

Sometimes I wonder...Just how do we know, if someone is 'just overweight' or really handicapped? I'm not sure we can be really tell, and possibly judgement should be...Well, you know.

I don't think anyone here has suggested that overweight equates with handicapped.

I don't judge people as handicapped or able-bodied just by appearance. I look for the ACROD (Australian Council for Rehabilitation of Disabled) permit in the car window (if you are eligible for one, they are easy enough to get). If they don't have one or aren't displaying it, they aren't entitled to park there.

People who walk into my apartment and ignore my Please Remove Shoes,New Carpets installed sign.I guess I will have to get the sign printed in a red color so they can see it.

Young people who sit at my dinner table with their baseball hats turned around backwards and don't think they have to take them off when they are sitting at my table to eat dinner.More than once I have taken it off them and told them they could have it back when they leave.

People who come for dinner and say Please can I use your phone for a minute as I have to call the office then they spend half an hour or more on the phone.

When you are holding open a door for a older person and before the person can get through the door a bunch of teens rush in the door almost knocking them over.

I have more but I will quit now or I will be here all day.

This is great! I have so many more people to dislike. I often wonder are people rude and inconsiderate on purpose or is it because they just don't know any better? I tend to feel that people today are so self-absorbed and selfish, they suffer from the 'you first after me' syndrome and, therefore, are rude on purpose. If you've never been taught being kind and considerate to others, the lack of instruction should be replaced with common sense and learning by others setting the example.

Another individual that drives me crazy is the 'let's cheat the disabled' workman. I recently dislocated and eventually fractured my right shoulder that limited my use of my arm. My sister noticed that the faucet in the kitchen was spilling water where the faucet meets the sink (there was no leak under the sink). I looked in the yellow pages for a local plumber, found one, and called. I explained the problem and emphasized that it was not an emergency. The workman arrived and spent less than 30 minutes fixing the problem by installing a new faucet (a brand I never heard of - 'Wolverine') He handed me the bill for............$500.00. I could not believe it. I still can't believe it.
