I just happened to check my mail and noticed that I have 2 correction notices in my mailbox. However, I didn't get the red letter notice that I have correction notices pending on my homepage. I've tried refreshing but it only shows the increase in my mail count but nothing about the CNs. Just wanted to check on this because I don't check my mail often and it's very helpful to have the Red Letter notice. Thanks. smile

There are several things that are in need of fixing, and I'm sure it will all be fixed in due time. One of the admins cans discuss more with you if they so choose.

I haven't noticed this problem, but haven't had a CN for quite a while. I have no idea how widespread the issue of not getting the flashing red message, the one that gives me a heart attack every time I see it, is.

I got one a couple of days ago and the red message appeared as per normal so it's not a problem that is universal.

It's an odd case that Terry will likely need to look into. I haven't had problems either.

Are you sure they were actual correction notes? Sometimes folks type their complaints/concerns/corrections into the compliment box at the end of a quiz lol

Jake, they were correction notes - the same one sent twice. laugh The quiz was archived so I had to fill in the error report. As soon as I mentioned it here, I got a regular message from a friend and the red letters appeared. It's happened to me once before but I don't remember when exactly.

Actually, the main page header doesn't always update when you go there (it would probably load the server too much to check for new mail that often). Sometimes you may have very new mail (from the last 10-20 mins) and the main page may not yet know, so if that new mail is a CN, you wouldn't see the red letters.

By posting and then coming back, you just spent enough time for the system to trigger and refresh your top bar.

I'm aware of the time gap regarding that, Wes. The weird part was that it updated the increase in number of messages but didn't show that 2 of them were CNs. So my mailbox count went from 58 to 60 but no red letters. I refreshed a couple of times, played 1-2 quizzes and it still stayed like that till a new message came. Then it went to 61 and showed 2 CNs waiting.

I never keep more than a few notes in my inbox--and they fall off after a couple of months anyway. Maybe having so many is what makes it harder for yours to update in a timely fashion?

I normally keep about a hundred, so it can't be that.

That's how those two parts of the homepage work. The count and the red letters are on different update cycles.
If you log out and then log back in again, you will force a real-time update of both.

That's weird. Mine has always worked. I have to click my mailbox for it to ever update, and sometimes logging out and logging back in doesn't even work; but the red letters always appear when I have a correction note.

But by the way, crossword corrections don't always have red letters. That's a bit annoying. smile

Maybe your ISP is running a cache proxy or transparent proxy. When an ISP runs one or both of these you will see a cached version of a webpage and not the actual "real time" version.
