This is not normally my type of post, but it appears that Osama Bin Laden has finally received his justice.

If this is true, then it is ten years too late.

I heard a news story that he was killed last week, and they held off an announcement until after THAT wedding to avoid retaliations at an extremely 'soft' target.

Not sure how true that is, but it is still good news.

Normally I wouldn't celebrate in the killing of a person however when I heard this on the news this morning I yelled an involuntary "Hurray!".

My hope is that this killing will not unleash more violence by his supporters.

I'm worried that now that we've killed a crazy guy, his equally crazy followers will now see him as a martyr.

I kinda wish the Pakistanis took care of it - I think the reaction will be worse since it was 'us' who did it.

I don't really wish death on anyone, but I think it would be harder if he was captured - where could you hold such a person where his followers wouldn't be trying to free him or take people hostage in exchange for his release...?

Of course, many of his followers are illiterate and poor, so no matter what happened, they would just understand what they were told.

Unfortunately many of his followers that have influence are rich and educated. They are the ones we need to worry about.

I don't know how to feel about this. On the one hand, bin Laden's capture/trial/execution was a top priority of several presidents during campaigning but this was quickly forgotten with the move to the White House. For the life of me I can't understand why. Bin Laden is almost a foot taller than the average height of his countrymen, and reliable sources state that he suffers from kidney failure. How difficult is it to find a giant hooked up to a dialysis machine who roams the desert and sleeps in caves especially when the search is conducted by the most sophisticated and talented investigation/espionage agencies in the world? If they could find Saddam Hussein sitting in a hole in the ground what's the problem with the capture of such an obvious target?

There is no closure here. There is no justice here. 'Justice' by definition implies the quality of being just; righteousness, equitableness, or moral rightness: to uphold the justice of a cause. The horror and cruelty of 9/11 needed those responsible to be tried in the World Court with all civilized nations speaking out against terror. Instead we have the architect of the carnage living ten years longer than his thousands of victims and possibly killed instead of captured and tried. His only punishment was constantly looking over his shoulder for those I assume were searching for him.

After all these years, I still at times get very upset (and yes, weep) remembering those poor souls jumping from the towers, holding hands in their final moments. I can't find the words to describe my reaction.

I think the victims deserve more of an effort to capture and punish those who took part in their modern holocaust. What they got is nothing.

We lost the chance to try to perform rehabilitation on his character and through that event, help sway some of his followers away from violence. The result of real justice is apparent when the criminal is aware that his actions were wrong. What happened here is called vengeance. Oh well...sometimes we must take what we can get.

I don't think there's any way he would have come close to being rehabilitated. He was hopeless in his beliefs in a perverted version of Islam.

I do, however, wish we could have captured him, a la Saddam Hussein, so he wouldn't have become a martyr or had an Islamic state killed him so his followers couldn't say it was a Western crusade to kill Muslims.

Another way I see it is that the Western Union has finally delivered the last participant's copy of the Peace Treaty that ended "Charlie Wilson's War".

People have wondered how American helicopters managed to penetrate Pakistani airspace without being detected by Pakistani Air Traffic Control. It's quite simple. They were trained by the USA FAA and were all asleep by 1:00AM.

How didn't anyone in Pakistan know something was up with that compound? One investigative method that usually works to answer some questions hasn't been applied here: Follow the money! Surely, there wasn't O B Ladin signed on the real estate dotted line. Someone had to be a front man in that purchase. Who was it? Who was the seller? It would seem that the previous owner in that area would have been a military connected person who had invested in real estate. Did Osama show up for the closing?

The story is out there that when kid's soccer balls went over the 18 foot high wall (!sign that kid up for USA field goal kicking!), the balls were kept and the kids were reimbursed to go buy a new one. The walk through aftermath video shows no soccer balls in evidence. Alert, Claxon sound, maybe the balls are to be used in some nefarious terror plot? Maybe soccer should be outlawed until all the balls are found and every soccer ball is given a special identifying ID?

And there were marijuana plants growing up against the walls on the outside of the compound. Clear evidence that growing reefer is a gateway crime to mass murder.

I wonder if any FT accounts have gone silent since Sunday night?

I'm sure Osama did not purchase the house - he probably had someone buy it and Osama just stayed there. There's no way Osama would have been out in public like that.

As for the Pakistanis, that's the current question. There are a bunch of articles that believe the Pakistanis had to have known he was living there but didn't want to do anything, so the US finally just said 'you suck' and went off on their own to get him. The Pakistani government is so fractured anyway I'm sure there were people in there who were complicit and aided Bin Laden.

lol, very amusing post mehaul : )

All jests aside, it's possible that the helicopters used in the raid had new "stealth" capabilities, which, if true, would explain why the guys blew one up when it malfunctioned, so as not to give away "free technology" to the "enemy" (and clearly, Pakistan is not an ally lol).

And Osama might not have personally signed his name on the mortgage, but he could certainly have PAID for it. His family is EXTREMELY well off. Blood is thicker than oil. Not to mention the family are personal friends and business partners of several well-known US politicians and their cronies ~~

No one really can deny that it happened about as revealed since Osama's own daughter was there and said he was killed there. So, it was him, done there. First floor third floor, reaching for a rifle or knife, who cares, he's been evicted from the human race.

He was part of the human race?
I note that the Archbishop of Canturbury has remonstrated with those who shot Bin Laden as he was an unarmed man.
So the people murdered on 9/11 had the means to defend themselves?

Washington Post had a good article about the helicopter in yesterday's edition - check it out if you're interested.
