Well, that was a disaster. Both Indian players I chose were injured, Cook and Bell had their worst matches for months and Lord's didn't suit Swann. The only way is up from here and England won! Convincingly! So it's not all bad from where I'm sitting.
Sorry, Srini, and thanks for the quick posting of the scores.

I'm happy with my mid-table mediocrity - no HOF's and no spoons!

Not at all relevant to the game, guys, but I think Sharma looks much better with his new haircut. Just reminding you that I'm female!

Oh, and Michael Holding's voice is so lovely it sends shivers down my spine. Don't disqualify me, please.

LOL- Rossian, but I think that the 'Whispering Death' is a little bit past playing for either England OR India. The fact that he is Jamaican may also count against him... smile

  • Wow! what a difference your trump player and his score can make, has finally and best been noticed in this round of the comp! Other than DanielPoulsen, NOT ONE of us retained their position from the last round and I think we had the maximum movement of any single round of world cricket comp in the last 3 seasons!

  • N-Bomb waltzed his way to a HoF spot (his first for the season) and to a top 3 position for the first time with a superb team. Other than the hapless Alistair Cook, every one of his players scored handsomely for N-Bomb (and to think he forgot to name a trump and had to be reminded of it!)

  • srini701 also had a decent team (other than Jonathon Trott) and as a result he finds himself top of the ladder for the first time since the opening round of the comp. gtho4 CONTINUES to score impressively and continues to climb up! He is now in second spot (and to think he was nowhere in the picture just 4 rounds back!)

  • Jonathon Trott and Alistair Cook took their toll on the scores of quite a few players here. Howie72, LeoDaVinci, rossian and Sypher, all had these 2 players as their trumps and as a result, all of them suffered badly this round frown The worst was of course, LeoDaVinci, who ended up with his first spoon for the season and slid all the way down to the 5th spot, his lowest all season! Sypher was in a great position to take advantage of this, and he did, moving past Leo, but his trump's (Trott) score meant he allowed srini, N-Bomb and gtho4 to move past him (for now).

  • As for the Test itself, *sigh* what do I say...it was a ruthlessly professional display by the Englishmen, and they thoroughly deserved their victory. They outplayed the ragged Indians in all departments of the game and deserve to be 2-0 up in the series. As for the Indians, this defeat is all the more hard to swallow because, since the 0-3 series defeat in 1974, India have NEVER lost more than one Test match on a tour of England; after 1996, they have NOT been beaten by England in a series. And until Monday, India had not lost back-to-back Tests since their defeat to Australia at the SCG in January 2008; between then and the start of this tour they had played 38 Tests, won 18 and lost just six! Is this the beginning of the stagnation in the Indian team or is it just a minor blip and the Indians can will themselves to bounce back? We will know by Aug 14...

I wanted to shock everyone of us here by including the only Test between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh as the next round grin, but the Zimbabwe team was announced just yesterday and we don't really have a turn around time. So the next round will be the 3rd Test between India and England, but do watch out...We will be having a HUGE round of ODIs (Australia vs Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe vs Bangladesh) coming up very, very shortly

My reverse Midas touch for choosing a player who then gets injured and plays little part in the game continues (Khan, Gambhir and Trott have all suffered at my hands). My dilemma now is whether to persevere with Cook in the hope that he comes good or drop him, thus guaranteeing he'll score a double century.

Srini - India deserves credit for sportsmanship over the Bell fiasco. Dravid also acted as spokesman and was hugely impressive. I may just have to pick him for my team for that alone (I realise that means he'll score two ducks and/or get hurt).

Please don't pick him then smile He's the only India scoring in this series and if he fails too, the Test matches will be over in 3 days smile That's why I didn't pick both him and Tendulkar this Test (not that it mattered...Sachin still failed frown ) I hoped Anderson and Trott would fail if I pick them and they did...Maybe I will make Broad my trump next and hope he will fail miserably in everything smile smile

Just as an FYI about the remaining rounds, so you know how long we will stretch this comp:

The total rounds in this season's comp will be 17 and last round starts Friday, September 16. We are done with 10 rounds and the next 3 rounds have been posted on the threads.

#11 and #13 are India England Tests
#12 is a big round of 8 ODIs (4 between Australia and Sri Lanka and 4 between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh)
#14 will be big again (1st Test between Australia-Sri Lanka and only Test between Zimbabwe-Pakistan)
#15 is 5 ODIS between India and England
#16 and #17 will be last 2 Tests between Australia and Sri Lanka

So this season other than New Zealand and South Africa, we would have covered all the remaining Test playing countries smile

My prediction that dropping Cook would mean he'd score a double century came true in spectacular fashion for you N-Bomb. I did keep him in but not as trump, unlike someone who is rubbing his hands in glee. Poor Sehwag - out first ball in both innings. Hard luck Srini.

  • Let's not discuss the match in this round here...it's too embarrassing for me as an Indian cricket fan crazy cry Well done and Kudos to the Englishmen for walloping the Indians by an innings and a 1000 runs with a thoroughly clinical display to claim the top spot in the Test rankings for the first time since the rankings were introduced...do I hear some mutterings from Down Under too? oh well.....

  • Rossian had predicted wayyyyy before the Test that Alistair Cook might score a double ton since she dropped him as a trump player....he did! and laughing all the way to the top of our leaderboard because of that phenomenal performance of Cook is Sypher....other than Rossian, none of us even managed to score as much as Sypher's trump score! mad ... Rossian, please pick Cook as your trump again wink

  • Another player who will be thankful to Cook is gtho4, who has been sticking with the same team for the entire series...he did not have 2 players (Jonathon Trott and Harbhajan Singh) playing for him, but still scored handsomely thanks to Cook....BTW, Trott and Harbhajan are not there in the final Test too...

  • LeoDaVinci picked up back-to-back spoons and slipped another spot...paper_aero is still without either a HoF or a spoon, N-Bomb has no spoon yet, while Rossian has no HoF

The next round (that's already started) will be a real biggie and we might well see some huge movement in the table after that...

Oh Srini, if only my predictions for the players I do pick were as good as for those I don't! I am going to predict a draw for the final Test. I can't believe that India's great batting lineup will continue to fail - fewer than 300 runs in each innings is unbelievable.

Ummmm....almost yes, but I made a simple mistake this round...gtho4 had not lodged a team this round, meaning his team from the previous round carried over....Trott was injured and his direct replacement Ravi Bopara played...so I should have added Bopara's points to gtho4's score...will correct this now...by the same token, Harbhajan was also injured, but his direct replacement in the side, Pragyan Ojha did not play...so gtho4 still scores a 0 for that smile

Bopara's points won't make a huge difference, however!

India-England 4th Test: Praveen Kumar is out injured and RP Singh comes into the side. Will be treated as a direct replacement, so people with Praveen Kumar in their side (Rossian, paper_aero and DanielPoulsen) need not lose any points smile

Having seen Singh bowl the first over I'm not too confident about gaining many points, Srini.
