With due apologies to my English friends here, it was really nice for a change to follow some other cricket than the depressing fare dished out by India in England

Australia proved why they are still number 1 in ODIs, winning the series in Sri Lanka, while Zimbabwe celebrated their return to Test cricket by winning the ODI series also against their perennial rivals Bangladesh. It promises to be a good Test series between Australia and Sri Lanka next (we close our comp here this season here with those 3 Tests)

DanielPoulsen made the most of the 8 ODIs in this round by notching up a mammoth score to zoom up the table, all the way from 9th to 4th spot, while ozzz2002 faltered and slipped all the way to the basement.

Please note that the scores of the 2 worst players in each series was discarded from your teams, and NOT the 2 general worst scores. This scoring affected Sypher and he slipped to 3rd place.

England duly completed a 4-0 whitewash of India...only the 4th time in their history that they were whitewashing a team in a series of 4 or more matches....and India's first ever 4-0 loss since 1999

I should have urged Rossian to pick BOTH Cook and Bell

I urged her to choose Cook, she did, and Cook failed...but then Ian Bell stepped up and scored a double ton, annoying both Rossian and me here

N-Bomb and I both thought we picked Bell in our squads too....turned out we both chose Bresnan instead!

But the story of this round is LeoDaVinci. He picked a side for the round, 30 minutes AFTER the Test started. I was in two minds to let his side stay or to go with his default team from the previous round. The wise sages of the site adviced me to stick with the rules. Result.....LeoDaVinci wins the round with a whopping margin and jumps right back into contention

He would have won the round with his new side too, but would have scored almost 200 points less than he did now!

Another story of the round is of ozzz2002. Ozzz very sincerely changed his trump at my insistence...that did not unjinx or help my poor VVS Laxman in the Test, but Kevin Pietersen scored 360 of ozzz's 431 points this round! Imagine if he had stuck with Laxman as his trump

....but this meant poor Howie72 ended up with yet another spoon, thanks to HIS trump Morgan's stellar show in the Test

This has been a very unHowie like showing from the quiet man this season.....wonder what's happening

The next round will be from August 31 (Aus-SL 1st Test AND Pak-Zim only Test)...waiting for teams to be announced, so please bear with me for a couple more days...

Rahul Dravid continued to impress both on and off the field, and well deserved his 'Man of the Series' award. I was (almost) sorry to see Tendulkar fall short of his 100 - for him to achieve the milestone with England still winning would have been good. Most cricketers would die to play in a 100 Test matches....and here we have Ricky Ponting who becomes the first ever cricketer to feature in a 100 Test wins!!!! Hats off to this wonderful player

Australia beat Sri Lanka by 125 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the 3 Test series....Ponting however won't be there for the 2nd Test, so if you have him in your side, you might want to replace him....

Pakistan also duly won against Zimbabwe with a side that contained bowlers nobody had ever heard of (except one Saeed Ajmal!)...thank God we are only featuring the 1 test in our comp....you will soon read why

LeoDaVinci lodged his tips 1 full day after the Australia-Sri Lanka Test started (but well before the other Test started), so I couldn't take his team in and had to award him the least score in the Australia-Sri Lanka Test....turned out to be 362 scored by N-Bomb...pretty good compared to the mayhem in the other Test, so Leo can be pretty pleased with that...second round in a row he's having something good to smile about after missing the deadline!

Rossian scored a very good 637 points in the Aus-SL Test while gtho4 also scored well over 600 points there....pointers for them for the last 2 rounds of our comp here...but what happened then?

srini701, in his infinite foolishness, decided to put the name of Mohammad Hafeez, an opener, into the bowlers' list of Pakistan (in my defence, Pakistan only had 5 frontline bowlers, including 4 unknown names, and a ton of batsmen, so I decided to give our players here a little "more choice"

)

5 players promptly said "thank you" and picked Hafeez in their squad as a bowler...2 of them picked him as trumps, and you can see the result in our standings...Sypher and N-Bomb look well set to claim podium places now after this round, unless something really dramatic happens!

srini701 is still scratching his head over the turn of events...he originally picked Taibu, Mpofu and had Younis as a trump....before the round began, he replaced 2 players and changed his trump to what he thought was a "masterstroke"...turned out his master stroke of a player (Sohail Tanvir) did not even play

... ozzz2002 (Shoaib Malik) and DanielPoulsen (Chigumbura) also picked trumps who did not play the Test!

Howie72 turned in a consistent round for both Tests and picked up the HoF this round, but has the quiet man left it a little tooooo late? We will know in 3 rounds' time...

India completed a miserable summer in England

They did not win a single international match, lost 8 of them (4 Tests, 3 ODIs and 1 T20), lost almost their entire first team to injuries and Dhoni now knows what defeat finally means.....oh well...I can go and on and on about the cricket itself, but let me leave it for another day...

Nearing the business end of the comp, we have a new leader at the top! srini701, Sypher and LeoDaVinci led the field through 14 rounds and now we suddenly find a new name, N-Bomb at the top! N-Bomb picked his teams very consistently right through the comp this season and he deserves his shot at the title....

ozzz2002 was the ONLY one of us to have ALL his original 6 scoring for him this round...that probably should a record, given the rate at which players from both India and England fell to injuries....of the rest of us, neither Sachin Tendulkar, nor his direct replacement S Badrinath played, meaning 0 points for 4 of us, Eoin Morgan played a match, didn't do anything and was out injured for the rest of series (3 more scoring 0 here), and Amit Mishra did not play a match (3 more 0s here). Only N-Bomb was a trifle lucky. He had Rohit Sharma in his side, and Sharma's direct replacement Manoj Tiwary at least got to play a match and field in the others...

paper_aero had gone 27 rounds before this without a spoon (his last spoon as in the 14th round of last season's comp!) and I was hoping before compiling the scores he would continue his streak....unfortunately, he had 3 players returning 0s for him in the round and as a result, he picks up his first spoon for the season

It promises to be a cracker of a finish for the podium places here this season...do keep an eye out for the last 2 rounds!

N-Bomb may well have clinched this season's comp with a whole round to spare...and to think he was nowhere in the picture for the top spot just a couple of rounds ago! Should tell you how unpredictable our comp here can be

One of our 2 debutants this season LeoDaVinci has also ensured himself a place on the podium with yet another HoF performance! There is NO way I will ever believe he does not know anything about cricket...He has more HoFs than anybody this season!

It promises to be a cracker of a finish for the 3rd place between Sypher and srini701. Both can go scrambling for the scorecard in the 3rd Test between Australia and Sri Lanka now

Howie72 scoops up yet another spoon, and he must be already plotting his comeback for the next season

Can N-Bomb make it? Or does Leo have one last surprise up his sleeve? Who will hit the tape first between Sypher and srini? Will Howie hit the 10K mark this season? All will be answered by tomorrow

In the end it turned out to be one of the closest and one of the finest tipping comps I managed to run in the last 3 years here

Thanks a ton to ALL of you for making this season's comp that much better

N-Bomb who first entered this comp midway last season and who was "nearly there, but not quite there" till the last 3 rounds of this season, hung on at the end to become the 8th different winner of this comp. Hearty Congratulations to him for a stupendous show towards the end.....he has a very difficult task on hand next season....No one has managed to retain their title in this comp (so far)!

One of our debutants this year LeoDaVinci had an absolutely amazing season right through and he thoroughly and richly deserved his second place. He finished the comp with yet another HoF, but had left himself a tad too much to catch the leader. He says he doesn't know a thing about cricket....anybody believes him now?

Well done Leo!

Defending champion Sypher was always at the very top right through this season and for some time I thought he will run away with this year's comp too....in the end he settled for 3rd spot...maybe he had his eyes on srini701 all the time and didn't notice Leo and N-Bomb sneak past him

But Congrats are due to a very fine competitor for adding yet another medal to his massive collection.

srini701 certainly didn't notice the two toppers surge past him and finally finished outside the podium for the first time in 4 years

He had an up and down season right through and rest assured, he will be smarting to get back to the mix next year

Another tipping comp veteran gtho4 finally finished 5th in the standings, but he had a season where he should have been among the podium places rather than mid-table. Maybe next season he will remember to tip ALL rounds and so ensure a higher finish for himself

2 other debutants Rossian and DanielPoulsen also finished mid-table and they can be reasonably happy with their showing. Rossian was strong on some teams, and not so on others and this probably affected her. She is definitely a threat to everybody and she should be looking forward to getting her own next season...you will, won't you, Rossian?

DanielPoulsen started slowly before picking up steam midway through. He will hopefully return too and better his showing from this season

What do I say about the bottom 3? None of them are used to that position in any tipping comp over here....at least not the bottom 2 at any rate.....ozzz2002 is one of the most spectacularly inconsistent tipping guy this site has known. On song, he's a treat to watch and holds his own in any comp, but when his mind is otherwise occupied with more important things, he can go all over the place...he did just that this season here and finally settled for 8th place. No guarantee where he will finish next season...

Both paper_aero and Howie are normally among the medals mix in any comp, so it is really strange to find them at the bottom of the heap

They themselves might be wondering at this and I am sure they will plot a better showing next season...

There.....have I enticed everybody to return next season for the comp? Other incentives for people to return next season? N-Bomb and Sypher finished the season without a single spoon, while paper_aero and Rossian finished without a single HoF to their name.

I hope you enjoyed taking part in this comp and that you will return next season....maybe I will make some changes to ensure we actually pick players who play the matches

See you all again next May...until then.....keep playing other cricket comps that I will organize
